OT- Could USC's issue help UM recruiting leading into NSD
November 18th, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
They could be. Or they could not be. Is it likely? Well, is there any reason to think it is?
November 18th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
I don't know I guess maybe?
No probably not.
November 18th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^

This season is an absolute disaster considering their expectations and their QB/WR talent. But they are still probably going to go 7-5 with a difficult schedule(played Oregon, Stanford, good UCLA team, will play ND) and 75 scholarship players in Kiffin's 2nd year. I'm not sold that Kiffin is a good coach and that he won't eventual lead USC to mediocrity, but I don't think this season is causing many recruits to seriously considering bailing.

The headline guys are all big names (though Robert Woods has had a bum ankle all year), but there are tons of weaknesses on that roster. They are starting a true freshman at LT and DT. Two freshmen rotate at fullback. Three sophomores start at linebacker by default and the next guy in is a freshman. They lost their starting DE and corner to injury and ineligibility respectively. And Jarvis Jones is ripping QBs heads off at Georgia because SC doctors wouldn't clear him to play.
That being said, plenty of SC fans still want Kiffin out, though Pat Haden just recently said there is zero plan to make a change and that Kiffin is the coach.

Maybe with McQuay.
November 18th, 2012 at 1:23 PM ^
Especially Vandy. McQuay made another unofficial visit there yesterday. If James Franklin stays there, I think this is where he lands if he doesn't come to Michigan.

When Issac committed to USC, everyone thought the sky was falling. Who would of thought we would be in a very good position to get an upgrade in D. Green. I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched, but I gotta kinda of say, Isaac who?
November 18th, 2012 at 1:20 PM ^
..Green being an upgrade on Isaac is debateable..
November 18th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
Last I checked USC was still in L.A., which means there are still hoards of beautiful girls there to go with the warm weather.

2 separate incidents. 1 was shooting killed two people off campus in the surrounding neighborhood and the other was on-campus but involved people who were there for a party that shouldn't have been and weren't USC students.

I never thought I'd feel safer in North Philly at Temple than USC...but I'd say that I do.
November 18th, 2012 at 1:16 PM ^
Name the douchebag who is in charge of USC?
November 18th, 2012 at 1:20 PM ^
Steve Spurrier?

It is, unfortunately, lacking in its preemptive assertion that everyone responding to the OP are dicks and assholes. That's been a fun trend on here as of late.

Yeah! Instead we should have more threads about how the student section is taking seats from real fans!

No, absolutely not.
November 18th, 2012 at 1:37 PM ^
I really don't see it happening with those who have already verballed. McQuay possibly, but I think other factors will be more important in the end.

Disappointed with the Trojans' performance they might be, but the ship isn't taking on much water, at least not for the time being. Per ESPN - link - Pat Haden, the USC AD, has affirmed that Kiffin will return in 2013. I couldn't find any real sources regarding recruitments waivering potentially.
November 18th, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
I think, at a minimum, USC will keep him until the sanctions have run their course. That way, wahtever failures and stigma caused by them will attach themselves to his name. The next guy can ride in on a white horse. Why bring in a new coach who's going to have to face the reduced roster crunch?
November 18th, 2012 at 5:16 PM ^
and Nick Saban was staying with the Dolphins...oh wait.

The best check on USC's power is a competitive UCLA [think what MSU did with recruiting when UM was down for a few yrs]. USC has had cart blanche in recruiting in the LA area allowing them to cherry pick the best talents in the rest of the country. I never understood why UCLA hasn't been more successful. It's in a much better part of town than USC. If athletes really claim academics are important, it's a better school than USC.

I will be attending the Vista Murrieta vs Rancho game this week.
Sua Cravens, Goodman, Hawkins 2 WR commits and the LB an RB from Murrietta should be great.
