03/17/2014 - 5:06pm The author of this article

The author of this article completely screwed this up. If it was based on the rankings he would simply apply to more widely used national criteria to the regional schools. Even a "top" ranked regional school would struggle to make the top 75. Creighton accepts 80 percent of its students and as a 25 percentile ACT score of 24. It isn't some academic powerhouse.

03/03/2014 - 12:08pm They offered Pallante a full

They offered Pallante a full scholarship and had Williams as a backup but he chose ND. Maybe there weren't any other sleeper DEs that they liked in the class. I doubt that they just didn't consider backup options.

03/02/2014 - 6:33pm That makes more sense. From

That makes more sense. From the OP I thought you were looking into buying gold as an "investment".

03/02/2014 - 6:11pm I don't know how you can

I don't know how you can claim it stays pretty stable when it lost around 30 percent of its value in 2013.

03/02/2014 - 6:00pm Why would you buy gold?

Why would you buy gold?

02/25/2014 - 10:23pm Surely what you mean is that

Surely what you mean is that you don't have any memories of buying a drink at Ricks until after you graduated?

01/22/2014 - 3:46pm I disagree with the "major

I disagree with the "major diversity" suggestion. I think it would only reward schools that offer a large group of academically questionable majors. Remember when Ohio State was making fun of Michigan for having so many kids concentrating on General Studies while they players majoring in "Family Resource Management" and "Sports and Leisure Studies". Furthermore, kids who didn't care would still be pushed into random majors.

I think it is actually beneficial to put players who don't have a specific interest into concentrations like General Studies at Michigan, Business at Notre Dame, or Science, Technology, and Society at Stanford (info from old mgoblog article "Destroy Harbaugh"). It gives them a manageable selection of classes(considering their intense athletic schedules) and allows them to take classes with their peers while offering them exposure to college level courses and helping them build basic communication/analytical skills. If they fail to make it in football and desire a more specific education at a later time, schools should offer them a full-ride and admissions help to a grad program of their choosing.

If anything, I think the NCAA should push to standardize education for atheletes across schools and ensure that athletes meet some core set of criteria in their coursework. Granting Terrell Pryor the status of Academic All-American is a greater mockery of college athletics than pushing kids towards a more managable course of action.

01/10/2014 - 2:02pm Which RB coaches would have

Which RB coaches would have made any of the RR-era backs into multiyear NFL players? Touissant's injury pretty much ended his NFL hopes. V Smith was never going to make in the NFL. STEVE SLATON IS NOT IN THE NFL. Does Rich Rod have any RBs currently in the NFL?

Rawls was just a body in the 1 month 2011 class. Jackson hyped him up. Jackson hypes everyone up. Justice Hayes is still under 200 pounds. Hayes will still be a RS Jr. He looked pretty good in the bowl game, even if he is moving to slot. Drake Johnson, who was supposedly very raw coming out of HS, was competiting for the starting job. I thought Smith and Green improved a good amount over the course of the year.

01/10/2014 - 12:47am He must not be a big Under

He must not be a big Under Armour fan.

12/24/2013 - 3:45am It is also important to have

It is also important to have 3 scholarship-worthy athletes at QB. So far, the 2011 QB class has been underwhelming. What QB would you have taken that you would feel comfortable starting as a RS Fr? Would it help the 2013 team to take another Bellomy-level talent over a guy like Willie Henry/Dennis Norfleet(last minute guys who are major contributors)?

12/24/2013 - 3:30am We didn't have relatively

We didn't have relatively few. Last year we had 4 all B1G and this year we have three. Considering there are 12 teams and only 26 spots, we had a good amount relatively.

12/13/2013 - 6:33pm How is there a lack of demand

How is there a lack of demand if the tickets are still over 100 dollars? There have been a few Michigan games were it was difficult to give student tickets away.

12/12/2013 - 8:10am It's supposed to be amateur

It's supposed to be amateur athletics. Players who wish to be paid according to their free market value you can try to do so elsewhere or lobby the NFL to drop their ridiculous restrictions

12/08/2013 - 7:01pm Doesn't the BWW pick before

Doesn't the BWW pick before the Gator this year?

12/06/2013 - 9:57am What are you talking about?

What are you talking about? Pretty much every coach hired into the league is a former coordinator/assistant. UW and Colorado hired coaches from weaker conferences(though petersen is a much bigger name that any MAC coach). Arizona and WSU took chances on disgraced offensive gurus and ASU hired Graham. UCLA snagged a twice fired former NFL HC.

12/02/2013 - 12:02pm Amazon's CyberMonday site is

Amazon's CyberMonday site is pretty sweet, especially for electronics. I pretty much just checkin on the deals on it all day. There are/were some really cheap TVs if someone is looking to pickup a second TV for their bedroom or something.

11/27/2013 - 12:32am Most of those guys appeared

Most of those guys appeared compotent and to not struggle starting next to other veteran players. Schofield looks terrible this year and many people are saying Lewan actually isn't that great. How many times in Michigan history have we had this many young guys playing side by side on the OL/TE/FB positions?

11/18/2013 - 1:52pm Set for years? Isn't Guiton a

Set for years? Isn't Guiton a senior and Braxton a sophomore?

11/09/2013 - 9:54pm So we can lose the extra

So we can lose the extra practices?

11/05/2013 - 5:58pm Yeah they don't usually lose

Yeah they don't usually lose to less talented ND, Nebraska, Iowa, etc. teams almost every year.

God bless you man, hmmmmmmmmm,

11/05/2013 - 11:19am It is one thing if talented

It is one thing if talented underclassman beat out  multiple more experienced players for a starting position. Michigan has three young guys right next to each other on the interior that are pretty much playing their by default.

11/05/2013 - 10:44am Or we win out, they lose in

Or we win out, they lose in the CCG, and we go to a BCS bowl while they go to the Outback bowl or something.

11/05/2013 - 12:16am He had won an NC with LSU but

He had won an NC with LSU but not many would have said he was the best coach in CFB in 2007.

11/02/2013 - 11:13pm Did watch FSU in 2011 when

Did watch FSU in 2011 when those "veterans" were playing for the first time? They went 8-4 with losses to Virginia and Wake Forest with a defense that was more talented than ours.

11/02/2013 - 10:58pm If your avatar pic is of

If your avatar pic is of yourself you need to stop dressing like an ass. Drives me crazy. No headset. You look like an idiot. You look like a 3rd grader whose parents bought him clothing a size to big because they didn't care about how it looked and he would someday grow into them. Also, I don't know why you 'quoted' toughness and your puns are week.*

*no.

11/02/2013 - 10:50pm Yeah Michigan never performs

Yeah Michigan never performs well at home.

11/02/2013 - 10:34pm They both had *a freshman

They both had *a freshman starter.

11/02/2013 - 10:32pm Young OL can contribute.

Young OL can contribute. However, the odds that 3 young OL playing adjacent to each other against the best D in the country on the road are going not play terribly are pretty low.

10/26/2013 - 3:14pm Okay, but in-state enrollment

Okay, but in-state enrollment is also up. The OP's claim was that a declining amount of in-state students was a reason for the lack of attendance. The premise of that argument is false.

10/26/2013 - 1:15pm I thought Minnesota was one

I thought Minnesota was one of the worst teams ever and Hoke and Borges failed by not beating them by enough points.

10/26/2013 - 12:15pm Your "data" is one year of

Your "data" is one year of admissions where the percentage of OOS students increase by a few percentage points?

The total enrollment has increased by over 3.5 thousand in the past 4 years. There is still the same amount, if not more in-state students at Michigan today as there was before the attendance problems started to occur. In the very article that you posted it states that "in 2002 U-M enrolled 1,827 non-resident freshmen, 801 fewer out-of-state students than this year. Also in 2002 overall freshmen enrollment levels were at 5,187 — 984 students fewer than this year. Of the enrollment difference between those two years, roughly 81 percent is comprised of non-resident students." Thus, the amount of in-state students increased by almost 200 kids from 2002-2012.

10/26/2013 - 11:14am You probably got hammered for

You probably got hammered for it because it doesn't make that much sense. OOS students only make up around 35 percent of the student body, was the ratio that much different a few years ago when there weren't attendance "problems"? Also, a huge percentage of OOS students are legacies and thus probably have as deep or a greater connection to the team than the average person who simply grew up in the state. Furthermore, many OOS kids picked Michigan over competing schools because of the combined athletic-academic experience that it offers. Finally, what does having a deep connection to the state has to do with anything?

09/16/2013 - 11:08pm Michigan has a RS Fr, a

Michigan has a RS Fr, a walkon RS So, and a not very highly-recruited RS So on the interior OL. I don't see how you think that it is a given that with decent or even excellent coaching they would "blowup" any team's DL.

09/03/2013 - 12:21pm The problem is that people

The problem is that people aren't taking the "outliers" out of other RB's numbers so 2.8 looks terrible in comparison. Additionally, severa; of Green's runs came on 2nd/3rd and short and near the goal line.

08/12/2013 - 11:08pm Yeah, the guy who literally

Yeah, the guy who literally helped to inspire a book titled "The Art of Thinking Clearly" and donated millions of his dollars to the University didn't think this plan through.

07/30/2013 - 6:21pm I think Bells and Founders

I think Bells and Founders really excel at making the more standard IPAs, stouts, etc. However, they don't really make many sours, Belgians, etc, whereas other breweries really kick ass at making some of those styles and still make great more regular beer styles.

07/30/2013 - 1:50pm On the other hand, I don't

On the other hand, I don't think poorly written blogs generate enough revenue to pay a proof-reader and someone who writes at a 3rd grade level isn't likely to have a lot of extra money to pay a proof-reader.

07/13/2013 - 11:44pm Why buy that keyboard when

Why buy that keyboard when you could get one of these:

Big House Keyboard

Block M Keyboard

Also, I just found an UTL keyboard too: Link

07/10/2013 - 11:07am Didn't they bring him up

Didn't they bring him up basically right after they signed him?

06/30/2013 - 12:43pm Completely unrealistic. You

Completely unrealistic. You can't deal a free agent, I don't Quincy is really a hot commidity on the trade market, and not many teams would part with a top forward or top 10 pick for Fil and Quincy even if we could trade them both. I wouldn't say Kindl really has all that much potential IMO. He's already 26 years old. I think he will be a solid 3rd pairing Dman and maybe move to a second pairing guy but I don't see him becoming more than a pretty average defenseman.

The Wings have a solid young core. I'd rather see them sign a quality player(Clarkston/Horton) that doesn't completely break the bank than go for an all-star like Lecavalier.

06/09/2013 - 8:45pm Motion Blur Reduction

So many people buy new TVs and leave the reduced motion blur setting on for everything. It looks great for sports, but I can't stand it with regular TV and movies.

06/06/2013 - 11:35pm Are you serious? Byfuglien is

Are you serious? Byfuglien is one of the best defensemen in the league and has been putting up more points on D than he did on offense with Chicago. Buff is twice the player that Bickell is.

05/22/2013 - 2:12am I agreed, the student's

I agreed, the student's speech reminded me of a high school graduation speech. Also, what was up with the one professor who just rambled on about the movie Lincoln.

05/15/2013 - 8:47pm Why the hell didn't cleary

Why the hell didn't cleary shoot that?

05/03/2013 - 9:16pm Why would Henne be at the

Why would Henne be at the rookie minicamp?

04/24/2013 - 2:56pm We haven't played a great

We haven't played a great team at home in 2 years either. It's a cool streak, but I don't think we should be beating our chest about marquee victories over an ND team coming off of a loss to USF, an 6-6 MSU team who may or may not have fielded an offense, a 6-6 OSU team, and a fringe top 25 Northwestern. Those were all incredible games to witness as a Michigan fan, but its not exactly some unprecedent streak of Michigan home dominance.

04/24/2013 - 2:43pm No, it's okay, you are

No, it's okay, you are getting a 1-2 dollar donut for your time in line.

04/24/2013 - 2:40pm Student tickets are already

Student tickets are already assigned to each student, why would you need to link it to an MCard?

04/24/2013 - 12:37pm I am graduating but mostly

I am graduating but mostly think it is a stupid reason in principle:

1) A true GA is unfair to the upperclassmen who theoritically had to sit higher up regardless of how early they should up.

2) Any time you create a system that involves waiting in line, which is just a complete waste of time, when alternatives exist, you have likely failed

3) Drunk sorority girls will likely still find ways to game the system

4) I don't understand why they can't find ways to award people for showing up early based on when their tickets are scanned

Also, to the whole "the AD would get more money by cutting the student section because they are priced below market value", that is true, but this (allegedly) amateur athletics. Do you know what else is priced below market value? The "pay" for the athletes on the field.
