Schembechler Estate Sale cancelled
There seems to be some strange circumstances surrounding it, but according to Stephen Nesbitt and Nick Baumgardner the estate sale planned for this weekend is cancelled.
Schembechler estate sale has been canceled. Matt Schembechler said groundskeepers canceled, is trying to file an injunction and arrest Matt.
— Stephen J. Nesbitt (@stephenjnesbitt) September 27, 2012
I don't know how to explain it, really—the road was blocked by security, Matt Schembechler came to my car window to vent about cancellation.
— Stephen J. Nesbitt (@stephenjnesbitt) September 27, 2012
Matt Schembechler: "The man who mows the lawn" canceled the estate sale, "is trying to file an injunction against me and throw me in jail."
— Stephen J. Nesbitt (@stephenjnesbitt) September 27, 2012
Owner of Aaron's Estate Sales says the sale belonged to the personal estate of Matt Schembechler, not Bo Schembechler
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) September 27, 2012
And the sale has been canceled because the neighborhood association had filed to have it stopped, citing it was against their bylaws
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) September 27, 2012
Again, original report was wrong -- that was not a sale of Bo Schembechler's personal estate, but rather the estate of his son, Matt.

Just odd.

Dammit I was gonna buy me some things.
EDIT: How is this Al Borges' fault?
September 27th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
It's Brandon. Mowing lawns and he and gd money. Who messes up the schedule, at home? I hate him
September 27th, 2012 at 12:13 PM ^
Brandon, Borges, Denard pick 1 as the cause of any problem!
September 27th, 2012 at 12:38 PM ^
This has to be blamed on Nick Sheridan.

It seems pretty unlikely that anyone will go to jail because of this. Someone may have threatened that, but I'm not aware of neighborhood association rules carrying criminal penalties.
September 27th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
That's because you've never come to MY neighborhood. You wouldn't last a day.
September 27th, 2012 at 12:39 PM ^
is that you mr. robinson?
September 27th, 2012 at 12:49 PM ^
I feel bad for the empty chair he is about to shoot...
September 27th, 2012 at 12:11 PM ^
to the estate sale around 9:30am. I had a similar experience...when I slowed up and rolled down my window, Matt Schembechler came up and started rambling about how his neighbors were trying to sue, Bo's last wife was trying to sue, and the media was trying to slander him.
It was a very weird, kind of sad sight.
He kept repeating the phrase, "this is what happens when you're the last Schembechler in Ann Arbor."

Sounds like someone is a spoiled brat who is full of himself. And the house is a short sale, so he's also made some bad financial decisions.
September 27th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
Well, A everyone thought this was Bo's stuff being sold. And B, everyone wanted to know what was up with these:

I just figured that meant the Klopeks were moving in.

How does one have an estate sale when they are still alive?
September 27th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
call it yard sale. The super cool cats call it an estate sale.
September 27th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
Was there poop on the floor? Fucking cats.
September 27th, 2012 at 12:27 PM ^
Is his neighborhood angry because he basically wanted to have a yard sale? Who cares?

I saw the address in the MLive article and knew which homeowners association it was based on past dealings in my work with Detroit Edison. There is a very explicit clause in the bylaws (which I have on file here because I had to do some underground design back there once and needed to know what the easement situation was) which prohibits "unreasonably noisy" or "offensive" activity in the common areas as well as within or near individual units in the subdivision. Especially if it involves potential traffic congestion, vehicular or pedestrian (or, heaven forbid, line trucks, as in my case), it would have to go to the board first for approval. Failing to get such approval is a major faux pas there and in several other places in and around Ann Arbor (I've had many such dealing with associations over the years). I assume an estate sale would qualify in their minds regardless.

So, everyone's out to get Matt Schembechler... where have I heard this before?

telling quote at the end: Matt Schembechler, an Ann Arbor businessman, is suing his father, the university and 12 other defendants, accusing them of trying to ruin his sports memorabilia business and damage his reputation.
I think that tells you all you need to know about Matt Schembechler.

very telling

Matt Schembechler is the new Dean Koontz?

Elwoods sack is full of hate.

Went to High School with Matt, Geoff and Chip (Bo's step son's). Matt was a dick then and getting in trouble, sounds like nothing has changed. Geoff was a good guy who ended up with some Domino's stores on the east coast.

What about Chip?
September 27th, 2012 at 3:18 PM ^
Per Wikipedia, Chip died in a car accident in 2003.

Of all the sons, which one is "Schemmy"? I always thought Bo thought "Schemmy" was his favorite. It's not this d-bag is it?
/"Schemmy"
September 27th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
Schemmy is his biological son from his second marriage. The others were adopted from his first marriage.
September 27th, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
He married her just before he came to Ann Arbor.
September 27th, 2012 at 5:01 PM ^
Bo got remarried when he was like 65 years old and his 2nd wife Cathy was in her mid-to-late 40s. They didn't have any kids.
September 27th, 2012 at 1:39 PM ^
He was born after Bo became coach at Michigan. Actually Bo and Garvie Craw (fullback on '69 team) were both in the hospital together when their kids were being born (1970 ?).
The 3 named were Millie's sons from a prior marriage. Bo adopted all of them, thus the name Schembechler for them. Matt, as noted, has had issues over the years.
Schemmy spoke at Bo's Memorial. I believe he works as a scout for an NFL team and lives in southern Ohio.

and is a really cool guy. He held the local alumni association club's send-off picnic for Freshman and Sophomores going to UM at his house this year.

The original notice of the "estate sale" had the odd wording of the "last Schembechler in Ann Arbor." If it had really been Bo's stuff, the copy promoting the sale would have used his name about 20 times.
But dammit, I really wanted Woody's bones.
