Toussaint Hit With DUI
The Saline Police Department arrested University of Michigan starting running back Fitzgerald Toussaint in Ann Arbor Saturday night on charges of operating a vehicle while impaired, according to Detective Don Lupi.
Details are still forthcoming. DUI is usually a suspension-level offense even for a first-timer, so Michigan may have just lost its starting tailback for a slightly important game. A reminder: Stonum's enforced redshirt was after two DUIs and repeated failure to do what the court told him to. Toussaint's not in the same boat.
"Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action. There are expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the University of Michigan and those responsibilities were not met in this instance. We will use this as an opportunity to educate Fitz and make sure he understands the high standards that we have established within our program."
get the job done. I hope Fitz gets the help he needs.
This sucks. Our chances of beating Alabama drop significantly. More importantly, what the hell Fitz? He could have killed people.
the most important thing.
I would be okay with up to a 4 game suspension, especially since it seems that some players are still not getting the message. To hell with the won-lost record. Do you want to be a good teammate and help the team or do you want to drink and drive?
Guh.
What a likely devastating loss...
Come. the fuck. on.
So painful and sad/disappointing on so many levels. Ruined our month and season start. Time for Fitz to run some stairs early in the AM.
Penis.
K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...for necessary emphasis. One K just isn't enough in this situation.
So this means Fitz will sit the Bama game almost assuredly, meaning we'll see a lot of Smith and Rawls. Smith is a known commodity, so we'll get to see what Fred Jackson's boy Rawls can do.
Best case scenario:
-Rawls gets motivated to practice extra hard for the Bama game.
-Team rallys around each other and practices their ass off for Bama.
-Rawls impresses vs Bama.
-Fitz responds well on and off the field, and practices his ass off to get his starting spot back.
I still bet Vincent Smith gets the first couple carries vs Bama just to have a sure handed Senior deal with the first game gitters on such a national stage.
I would hope that most of what you call your best case scenario would take place even without a DUI for motivation.
Everything you just wrote means Fitz T. owes me $100.
So, like a Wheatley/Biakabutuka type scenario? (Of course, Wheatley was hurt, not suspended, but the on-field result could be the same).
Well, with Vincent Smith in the game we'll likely hear the word "grit" used a lot.
Plus, a huge increase in the occurence of finger guns on blitz pickups.
Dont be surprised to see more of Northfleet too. I think his speed out of the back field will be much needed against that great Bama defense.
When will these guys figure out cabs are actually pretty cheap and, you know, safe? Very disappointing.
When will these guys figure out you can get literally anywhere you would want to be in Ann Arbor by walking? Walking is also cheap.
What's the suitable punishment here? 3 games?
Its a first offense and plenty of players on plenty of teams have had alcohol related offenses. He may be punished without being suspended for the game. It can easily be justified .. ala Michael Floyd
I agree wholeheartedly and one thing I like is that most people around here would be offended if he did get a DUI and didn't sit out the whole game. Fair is fair.
jdon
my bad.
jdon
As much as I'd like to see that happen, I think all of us would agree that Floyd got away with a lot for such a small punishment. If we want to hold our heads high saying that UM holds a higher standard than other teams do, I'm afraid we're looking at missed games. I guess it also depends on what happens when he's standing in front of a judge.
Two maybe three games? This absolutely sucks.
South U Pizza > Back Room > NYPD
absolutely not.
Of course, numerous caveats apply. But generally, I say for pizza after midnight, South U is #1
