Final Four Open Thread

Not a lot of easy to root for teams, but maybe some good games. If anyone still has pool hopes, good luck, but I'm dead in the water. Thanks Kansas.

Some Big Ten AND some Jayhawk Cheer-er ons.  Personally I think I'm going with the Buckeyes.  It'll be wierd once again, and it won't be as dramatic of cheering on like the Sparty-Ohio matchup was, but I'll be rooting for Sullinger and Kraft.  I just don't dislike those kids as I do many other Buckeye student-athletes.  I won't be "cheering" them on so much that I'll be rooting for them for the sake of the Big Ten's "looking good".  Essentially, another good, entertaining game is all I want.

But I'm not sure the Final Four was the best cross promotion for Dark Shadows. Not sure there's big target audience overlap.

First Tim Burton, and now a Battleship movie that doesn't even resemble any Battleship game I ever played. I keep thinking this is Transformers 4.

And wasn't it a little weird to hear Tracy report that Craft steals souls?

Anyone else really annoyed with people using "THE Ohio State University?"  I fucking hate that shit.  I don't think I can bring myself to root for the B1G in this game.

"Let's look at the coaches in this one. Rick Pitino is making his sixth trip to the final four with his third different program etc. etc. etc..." And then...

<crickets>

No mention of Calipari. What are they going to say: this is just his second trip to the final four because the first two were vacated? He has the chance to be the first coach in history have final four appearances vacated at three different schools? Best not to bring any of that up, so they say nothing at all. He has no history.

I don't know how anybody can like this OSU team. Sullinger is a weasely looking fuck and don't get me started on Craft. I have never seen anybody get so many 50/50 calls based on reputation of being a great defender. He is ok, maybe even better than average, but he is not a "great" defender... at all.

I also hate Kansas though because when I have them losing they win and when I have them winning they lose. So fuck them. And I hate Calipari... Worst Final Four ever in my e-pinion.

For whatever reason - and I really can't explain why - I don't hate Duke... it's weird because I really should. I hate a lot of things for no reason at all and with all the reasons in the world to hate Duke I just can't force myself to do it. I don't like Duke, but I don't hate them.

Our emotions, or whatever, work.  To preface, I of course very much dislike OSU and much about it (especially sports related).  But Sullinger and Craft et. al. don't irritate me that much.  They don't talk smack (obnoxiously, anyway), they play hard, they have respect for their opponents, etc., I could go on.  I stated above already, but I just find it hard to really dislike that group of student-athletes.  I do a agree a bit on Craft and some of the calls he gets, but upon replay, a lot of those calls that go his way are correct; the kid can flat out defend.  Anywho, not trying to change your mind, just pointing out how different we all really are (even sharing the commonality that we're all huge Michigan fans).

And can you win a share of the Big Ten regular season title and underachieve? The Buckeyes picked a good time to actually play at least 3 good games in a row.

I will join you all in my contempt for Ohio.  In fact, I politely ask for permission to use "Ohio," not that I need it.  I think it's great.  I use it in solidarity with the M grads where I work.

But I'm for the B1G tonight.  Reluctantly for Ohio.

EDIT: Ohio fans are such trash; I've changed my mind.  How bout that as a basis for rooting interests?

My wife, who doesn't much care for college sports, just said, "I feel kind of bad saying this, but whenever I think of ohio state, I think of white trash."

I love my wife.

Kansas is in deep doo-doo

Thomas Robinson doesn't realize  he is the best player on the court. He needs to dominate Sullinger and the Buckeyes. Robinson looks like a young Karl Malone and he is playing tenative, just like Karl Malone did when Karl Malone was in the NCAA tourney with La. Tech. Malone went up against Waymon Tisdale and didn't dominate like he would a few years later in the NBA

The Buckeye cheerleaders trying to pretend to show some "cheer" with smiles through gritted teeth made my night.

Oh tears of unfathomable sadness, you are delicious. Matta, great coaching there. Kansas is going to get rolled Monday.
