If anyone was aware of the sexual assault happening to women on the MSU campus from the office of the President, Board of Trustees, athletic department, faculty & campus police, and didn’t say or do anything about it, they should be fired.

09/19/2017 - 3:01pm Good point

there has never been a double blinded controlled study that proves the efficacy of parachutes either.

09/19/2017 - 2:08pm Did the same with

my son.
When time came, he chose soccer over football and never once looked back.

09/19/2017 - 1:48pm Like Harbaugh said...

no need to play before Freshman year of HS and the science agrees with him.

New study from BU released today is also very telling of tackle football long term effects on brain development before age 12.

08/24/2017 - 8:06pm sorry to burst your bubble....but

if your son ever got his Bell run, saw stars after a hit.

Concussive events include: a variety of physical, and emotional symptoms, which may not be recognized if subtle. A variety of signs accompany concussion including headache, feeling in a fog, and emotional changeability. In general, the signs can be categorized into physical signs (such as loss of consciousness or amnesia), behavioral changes (such as irritability), cognitive impairment (such as slowed reaction times), and sleep disturbances.

He would be the first player ever to play and NOT have a concussive event.

07/29/2016 - 10:42am Fellas...

Here is something you need to remember:  You do not to have loss of consciousness to have a concussive event. Any stinger or kid getting his bell rung making or getting tackled qualifies as a possblie concussive event.

Also your threshold for brain injury decreases with each successive event.

So go back in your memory banks an reassess if you witnessed any of these events.

I treat people with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury from many different sources in my practice.

The science is increasing everyday in the area.

Carry on and GoBlue

06/28/2016 - 4:07pm son just turned 16 and got his license

picked up a 2005 Nissan Altima. solid car from South Carolina and according to carfax hadn't scene an Ohio winter yet. Newer motor, transmission is 2 months old. Put a $1000 into it for tires and few fix ups and total investment so far is $3500.

05/19/2016 - 7:29am I have said this for years;

actuaries will kill football, not concussions.

has the distinction of starting his son ahead of a little known qb from Findlay OH by the name of Ben Roethlisberger.

04/27/2016 - 3:14pm Taking helmets off kids

and having them play flag football at early ages is becoming common place in PeeWee leagues.

Teaching them the game doesnt require a chin strap.

I have lunch every Monday with a retired  College football coach who is in the College Football HOF; thats his opinion...take the helmets off until a much later time.

01/22/2016 - 11:31am Richard Tapper MD...

is/was a Urologist in Toledo, OH off Executive Pkwy.

I know this b/c he performed my Vasectomy in 2003!

12/05/2014 - 9:03am also last year(exhibition)...

The University of Findlay (Div II) men's basketball team, ranked 11th in the nation, defeated NCAA Division I foe Wright State University by a score of 80-76 in an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 1 at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.

08/19/2014 - 9:49am As a physican; here are the problems

as I see them

1.  Structural integrity of the joint.

2.  Where was the dislocation; glenohumeral vs acromioclavicular.

3.  Grade of the dislocation

4.  Re injured in non contact throwing drill is a bad sign.

07/09/2014 - 11:22am Why not Cleveland

They already have Manziel (and with the RNC announcement yesterday) they stand a good chance of landing Sarah Palin as well.

It would be a Trifecta for the ages!

03/21/2014 - 12:30pm Tuesday before Thanksgiving...

performed by Toledo urologist Dick Tapper MD.

Football for 5 days.

03/11/2014 - 9:19am Good points gopoohgo

I dont recall Mitch ever being braced in clam shell post op in accordance with most fusion protocols.

I still believe it was a minimally invasive procedure with a good chance of return tournament time.

Just coming out dressed and running warm ups with the Team would be a huge boost for them and better yet mess with the psychology of the other team.

03/03/2014 - 9:44am Spot on.

All this is not sitting well with the faithful in KY.

01/26/2014 - 4:00pm I talked a little about this on another thread

I am a physician and I have expertise in rehab of all sorts of back surgeries.

There is no reason for him not to have statrted some form of rehab after seeing him on sidelines.

IMHO, he is silently participating in some form of rehab now with the goal of returning during tournament time depending on the teams record, seeding, etc.

If we had completely turtled after his surgery I would say he wouldnt have risked coming back.

But with what we have accomplished he is more than eager to come back and be a part of this.

I say this b/c his post game comments did not rule out a return.

The folks at UM are some of the best in the business in this area (ie Jake Ryan's ACL) and will have him fit and ready, if the circumstances are correct.

Just my 2 cents.

01/23/2014 - 4:44pm It is entirely my opinion

based on the fact I am a physician with expertise in rehabing minimally invasive spine surgery patients.

01/23/2014 - 4:08pm no one is talking about it but

McGary will be back for either B10 tournament or the NCAA.
Which changes everything.

01/08/2014 - 2:49pm I think he will be back

by tournament time.

Mininmally invasive surgery meaning no bone graphs or caging and/or fitted external bracing, tells me there was probably a small lateral extrusion that didnt respond to steroids.  Odds are there was radiculopathy without motor weakness.

Given his age and pre-op conditioning he should bounce back rather quickly.

Just my 2 cents

12/19/2013 - 11:19am I dont have a ManCave,

though I have the room.

I instead have a 10 yr old daughter that living here in the heart of Buckeye land had as the #1 item on her Christmas list......Michigan Basketball tickets.

You can't teach passion like that...its in your DNA.

12/08/2013 - 1:43pm we could be looking at same scenario

outside in NYC for Super Bowl!

10/09/2013 - 9:40am Did anyone watch on Sunday night?

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/league-of-denial/

  • We see slices of ex-players’ brains tainted by chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
  • We meet a surgeon who helped discover the disease, and who talks about how the politics of football essentially destroyed his career.
  • We go inside the NFL’s odd decisions to rely on physicians like rheumatologist Elliot Pellman, who had no real competence in assessing or treating brain trauma, to set the league’s health and safety strategy.
10/04/2013 - 12:21pm Section 44 as well

and similarly my 10y/o daughter (who is a rabid Michigan fan; here in the heart of Buckeye country) will be especially happy!!
