Zeigler gets release, will visit Duke
never thought that much of him.

i just never thought much of him.
Why don't you say it a third time?
March 20th, 2012 at 10:18 PM ^
Then you've never seen him play.
Just not MSU. Hopefully Detroit Mercy.
He played in the MAC because he chose too. He probably could've played anywhere.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:22 PM ^
Teams in the MAC are no good. Its not like they could beat us or anything. /s
March 20th, 2012 at 10:26 PM ^
Too soon, yo.
/ Omar
Oh, InDEED.
If he goes to Duke he might end up with so many splinters in his ass from riding the pine, he may never sit down again after graduation.

that Trey Burke is the Big Ten Rookie of the year and Trey Ziegler is...well...not? Different Trey's. Not all Trey's are made alike! I'll keep the one we've got.

This comment doesn't even make sense.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:25 PM ^
This thread got full of stupid real quick. Of course we would take him as would any other team. Lets not get too delusional around here.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:16 PM ^
Would be a nice pick-up for them but like UM, not sure if there's a lot of PT for him.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:27 PM ^
He averages 15 PPG but has more turnovers than assists and is a sub-50% FT shooter. Not being a hater, I hope he does what's best for him, but he's overrated.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:30 PM ^
I think any Michigan fan who says they don't want Trey Zeigler is still bitter that he went to Central in the first place. He led his team in scoring two seasons in a row, and at the very least would provide a nice bit of scoring off the bench. Sure, he has some things to work on, but just because the guy probably isn't a lottery pick RIGHT NOW doesn't mean he wouldn't be a welcome addition to the team.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:54 PM ^
he's definitely overrated. He's a ball hog and does not create for others. A volume scorer who doesn't have the touch to keep the defense honest. Isn't a particularly explosive athlete. He makes terrible decisions with the ball in his hands.
Even then, Michigan scholarship numbers are in a bind and how will JB make room for Trey if he decides to come to Michigan?
Exactly and we can't. See Brian Cook's twitter -- even if he wanted to come to Michigan, we don't have room for him.
Sorry, replied to wrong person.
-1 redundant

Funny how everyone is down on the Zeiglers. I don't quite get it. A huge chunk of CMU's minutes this year were played by freshmen and sophomores, Trey kind of had to lead the team in, well, everything, and they lost 8 of their games by 5 points or less. Take all those 1st and 2nd year guys and turn those losses into victories and suddenly they're MAC West champions (which they beat the actual MAC West champ twice).
What did in Ernie was that even though the team was young, he had been there for 6 years. In those 6 he never finished above .500.
So the latest 2 teams were bad, record wise. Trey's fault? He's no 1st team All-American, but he doesn't belong riding the bench somewhere.
The reason why the team was so young was because of Ernie.
Guy was worse than RR with his player retention, every year he was recruiting classes of 4-5 guys and by the end of basketball season 2 of those guys were kicked off the team, and 2 more would later be transferring. You cannot win like that.
As an aside, I read the CM Life article and Trey is the only one being granted a transfer request at this time, the rest of the kids need to wait until the new staff is hired. That. Is. Bullshit.
Just because your daddy got fired doesnt mean you should get special treatment and be able to move on when there are others who wish to do the same thing again way to be a team player Trey.

While you might blame the school for only granting a release to Trey so far, it's downright ridiculous to blame the kid for it.
Even though I can't do it yet, that deserves a +1
March 20th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
he'd want to go play at Duke or behind Appling or Burke, but man we really could use him. I don't see how it would work scholarship wise for us, but we could really use another ball handler and a bit more depth at guard even considering Stauskas.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:01 PM ^
UM was one of his finalists. The main reason he doesn't end up here IMO is we simply don't have open scholarships. Provided no attrition, we are full for the 2012-13 season already. We are actually 2 scholarships ABOVE the limit for 13-14 (not counting Hatch, who after missing a year of hoops would likely have to re-classify if he is able to make a full comeback).
Long story short, we need to lose 2 guys before 2013 to make room for all of our current commits.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:13 PM ^
Beilein has already mentioned that McLimans won't be getting a fifth year.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:59 PM ^
I don't see Austin Hatch being cleared to play competitive sports that involve contact ever again. He is recovering from a closed head injury that is taking more than a year to heal. The risk of playing basketball at an elite level is going to be too great.
We see him as an athlete, but Austin Hatch the human being is much more important than Austin Hatch the basketball player. I just hope he can recover enough to have a normal life, and can walk away from Ann Arbor someday as Dr Austin Hatch.

Michigan had spot available for Trey until he decided to commit to CMU.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:08 PM ^
The reason he didn't go to Duke is because HIS DAD coached the team he went to. I don't know about any of you, but it would be very difficult for me to tell my dad to eat shit as I went to go play for someone else. I mean it wasn't his uncle or his family friend, it was his dad. Probably the guy who taught him the game, went to all his games, bought him shoes, made it possible for the kid to even play basketball... I don't know why it is so hard to understand why he didn't come to Michigan or Duke or anywhere else. Some of the people on this board are surprisingly delusional.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
I clearly understand why he went to CMU. I know he was a big time recruit and I was disappointed by him not coming to Mich at the time, but what I was suggesting is that if he is not a NBA caliber player I'm not sure why he would want to go to Michigan, Duke, or MSU. UofD seems like an alluring option. Wasn't he friends with McCallum?

We were one of his finalists. He's got nice length and is exactly the type of athlete this squad needs...
March 20th, 2012 at 11:10 PM ^
Will say udm with McCallum would be an impressive backcourt. Wonder if he would make a similar choice twice (to small local school).

But for only one year unfortunately as Zeigler would have to sit through McCallum's junior season.
This is still what I'm rooting for, though.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:11 PM ^
Where did all this, "He's really overrated" and "I wouldn't want him" stuff come from? I'm pretty sure we would all be ecstatic if he chose Michigan
March 20th, 2012 at 11:28 PM ^
It's people who haven't watched him play more than once or twice, see that he shoots 49% from the line on a sub-.500 team, and assume that's the end of it. Ultra-athletic wings who shoot 46% from the field don't grow on trees. As somebody who has watched CMU basketball; he had close to zero help. Defenses just keyed in on him and forced the scrubs around him to beat them.
is 49% from the line. Being on a bad team doesn't cause him to be worse from the FT line. He isn't a great outside shooter... 37/117 on his career. His efficiency would definitely improve with a facilitator like Burke, but Burke's strengths on the ball outweigh Zeigler's, and he doesn't have enough shooting to complement Trey. I'd rather have Trey do his thing with Stauskas and THJ launching.
Was not trying to assert that his team's poor record affects his FT%.

If we can find a way to get him a scholarship I would love to bring him here
March 21st, 2012 at 12:22 AM ^
Highly touted shooting guard recruit "from" Mount Pleasant, MI. Played first two years at CMU under his dad who is the now ex-Chippewa head coach. Since his dad got fired he was granted release from his scholarship and is looking to transfer. Was a top-30 player nationally in HS and would contribute immediately. Looking at UofM, Duke, MSU, UCLA and UofD among others.
48 TS% on 31% USG? No thanks.
one is going to be opening up soon.
