Michigan back in the top 10
Michigan #10 in the latest coaches poll. First time in the top 10 since the horror.
Also: Wisconsin jumps stanford to #4, Nebraska stays at #14, Illini #15, Sparty # 19, and Penn state breaks in at #25

Sec Arkansas.....I like what I see here....and they even beat a top 25 team....granted they do have 1 lose already though
October 9th, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
Michigan was ranked ahead of Arkansas in the coaches' poll last week.

think it is as fraudulent as I did last week. I think Michigan is good. Come on, say it with me, I know it has been a while. MICHIGAN IS GOOD! One more time. MICHIGAN IS GOOD!!
October 9th, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
That's ridiculous.

I mean, I love this team, but no. This doesn't look like a Top Ten team to me yet. But then I guess they couldn't find more than 9 others who do either.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:45 PM ^
The key word to me is "yet." I'm waiting till next week to make some serious judgements about this team.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
We need to work our way up to #1 or #2 to play in the BCS national championship game, so I'm all for this.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
my bad....
October 9th, 2011 at 12:22 PM ^
Penn State is good for the B1G and Wisconsin (deserved or not.) The SOS is the Badgers main opponent at this point.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
While everyone will say this is "undeserved" etc. etc. almost all college teams are poor in some aspect of the game. That's just how college football is. While we are far from a perfect team who should be ranked above us?
October 9th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
"Should" based on resume? Probably no one behind us.
"Should" as in "if these two teams played 100 times on a neutral field, I'd pick the other team"? That question probably has a different answer.

I thought there was a bug on my computer screen.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
Well ... you're a cat. you pawed at the bug, didn't you? I know you did.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
I was about to try and flick that bug off my screen too, darn your avatar!!!
October 9th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
That avatar is tremendous. Thanks for the laugh.

Are we as good as most top 10 teams should be? Of course not. But we're 6-0, and not many people are. Most #10 teams will finish the season with 1 or 2 losses. Now look at our schedule, do you see more than 2 losses? I'd say we're right where we should be.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
according to voters, michigan is the 9th best undefeated team (out of 12), with only houston, illinois and Ga Tech being worse. Is that really so absurd?
October 9th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
but I'd probably take Georgia Tech over Michigan.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:39 PM ^
Our opponents have a record of 4-2, 4-2, 3-3, 3-2, 2-3. Theirs have records of 1-4, 1-4, 2-3, 5-1, 3-3 and 2-3. To recap, they've won one game over a team with a winning record, we've only played one with a losing record. We definitely deserve to be above GT.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:43 PM ^
I think there's a good chance they're the better football team.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:50 PM ^
Georgia Tech has a very good offense, but we have a much better defense (especially in the red zone).
October 9th, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
Think we'll find out a lot this weekend.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:30 PM ^
GaTech looks very similar to Michigan last year. It is outscoring its opponents because of a very good offense, but its defense is allowing way too many points.
More specifically, GaTech is allowing 24 ppg against relatively week opponents while Michigan is only allowing 13 ppg. In fact, every team GaTech has played has scored more than 20 points on them except Maryland (which scored 16). Even Western Carolina and MTSU each scored three TDs against them. At worst, a UofM v. GaTech game would be a shootout.

This weekend will be telling. If we beat a good MSU team on the road that will be two road victories against solid teams. It will provide more support for our improvement. As of now, one could make the validly make the argument that not only is GT better than us, but so is Arkansas, South Carolina, and Nebraska. Arkansas lost to arguably the top team in the country, while South Carolina only seems to lack a QB and did get screwed by the officials in that last call in the Auburn game. Nebraska really hasn't been that impressive, but I shudder to think of us playing a game against Wisconsin in Madison. There really is no measuring stick, which is why most preseason polls and early season polls are worthless: arguing who had a more difficult when comparing wins over Middle Tennesse versus Minnesota doesn't really mean much. Two back to back road victories over NW and MSU provides more support. We are going to learn more about this team in the coming weeks.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:03 PM ^
We'd need to defend the option much better to beat GaTech.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
Total offense: GT 553, M 457
Scoring offense: GT 46.5, M 38
Total defense: GT 343, M 348
Scoring defense: GT 24.2, M 12.5
They're outscoring us by a little more than a TD per game, but our defense is letting up 12ppg less. And this is coming against significantly weaker competition than we have faced.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:59 PM ^
You forgot 1-5 Minnesota
October 9th, 2011 at 1:07 PM ^
My bad, that was unintentional. So we've played a combined 17-17 (.500) and they've played a combined 14-18 (.438). That's a significant bit of difference.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:01 PM ^
This would be a fun match up. Not only for personal reasons ( the gf went there), but because I think it would be an even match up with big play offenses. Although after the way we played the option last night...
October 9th, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
Wait, girls go to Georgia Tech?!
October 9th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
As an alumni of Tech....no.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:13 PM ^
I think we're better than K State, and the K State mascot really scares me.
October 9th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
The polls are really down on the undefeated Zookers. They shouldn't be, their resume to-date is for real.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
Well, they beat a MAC team (WMU) at home by 3 points, and then squeaked by Northwestern (now 2-3), also at Champaign, by three points after Persa went out. Prior to that they squeaked by ASU (a decent but not great team) by 3 points, once again at home. There is a bit of a smoke-and-mirrors aspect to the Illini's season to date.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
ESPN is also predicting a Fiesta Bowl berth.

I don't think any other team is more deserving that Michigan to be ranked 10 at this point. Barring the top 7, every team has huge gaps. You have to respect 6-0 fwiw.
I am glad State is ranked again. Will be our first ranked opponent this year, and will make for a great win!
October 9th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
ranked team, ND was ranked when UM faced them.
October 9th, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
They were ranked in the teens week 1, but lost to USF. The ND game was a matchup of unranked opponents
October 9th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
should of checked before I opened my mouth..er typed..you know what I mean. Yeah that never works well for me..the no look shot. I was so sure they hadn't fallen out of the rankings.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
We certainly have the abiilty to be a top 10 team, but we have not nearly been consistant enough to justify the ranking yet.
October 9th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
Wellll we got a long way to go before we're any type of championship team. We're never gonna be satisfied. This is Michigan.
