Ross #1
Burbridge #2
Braden on the verge of that 4th star (?)
Godin at #15 (!) behind 3-star CMU safety commit

It's annoying seeing MSU have the 2nd best player in the state.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:43 AM ^
It doesn't bother me as much because we have the #1 rated player.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:44 AM ^
I prefer to think of it as Michigan representing 6 of the top 10, while MSU has the same in-state top-10 representation as an out of state Big East team coming off a terrible season who lost their coach to Notre Dame a year ago.
August 10th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
not so OT but we also have 5 of the top 15 in Ohio, two more than osu (perhaps 4 more if Dunn flips).

August 10th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
If Dunn flips wouldn't that be 5 more? We'd have 6 and they'd have 1.
August 10th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
we have 5, they have 3, dunn leaves = we have 6 they have 2.
August 10th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
Completely missed Josh Perry. Double pos banged you for my error.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
We would have him if we could...
August 10th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
It's "consolation," yo.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
what can I say?
August 10th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
We could have had him. We chose not to accept a committment until his grades improve enough to make him more than a longshot to qualify. State operated by the same code until they got desperate and needed the committment, however empty it might be until his academics improve. By and large, we operate by the same clearing house standards for athletes as MSU does.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
It's annoying seeing MSU do anything
August 10th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Seeing them "Sparty No". Never annoying.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
But...it looks like they're only going to get 1 (yes, just 1) of the top 10. Coming off of their best season (granted, luck and soft schedule played a huge part), they should be cleaning up...not getting crushed. Beyond that, their one top 10 commit may be iffy on the qualification.
August 10th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Since MSU is the second-best program in the state, I find it perfectly appropriate that they have the second-best player in the state. Besides, you don't really know who the best players are until four or five years down the road.
August 10th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Well MSU did get the top recruit the past couple of years so it's probably less annoying than that (though 24/7 does have Burbridge as the top recruit in the state on their latest re-rank).
August 10th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
...knowing that his grades weren't going to get him into Michigan.
GOOD NIGHT, FOLKS!
Oh...I know, I know...he's a 17-year old kid who doesn't need this kind of grief. Now I feel guilty...
...but not too guilty.
August 10th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
You do realize UM's admission standards for athletes are the NCAA minimum, right? In other words, the same standards that MSU adheres to?
August 10th, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
and still a good shot at O'Brien. msu will quickly be regaining their coveted status as "little brother"!
Go Blue!
August 10th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
O'Brien is a DT. So, given M's stated interested in signing only one DT, why would O'Brien still be in play? I hope he is. But both O'Brien and Pipkins have suggested that the "we're only taking one DT" thing factored heavily in their interest in M.
Is M parsing a distinction between DT and NT? Pipkins is quite obviously a NT. O'Brien, being a bit more svelte, is a DT?
August 10th, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
Congrats to ross. Talk about dominating the top of that list!
August 10th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Central owns the state. I think I counted 12 CMU recruits in the top 80.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
To expound on what the OP included already, here is where the rest of our committed recruits fall:
- RJS = #4
- T. Richardson = #5
- Funchess = #7
- Ojemudia = #9
- Braden = #10
Other players of note:
- O'Brien = #3
- Ron Thompson = #6
- Dennis Norfleet = #8
I am also surprised to see Godin rated so low.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
MSU is DOMINATING instate recruiting.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:53 AM ^
I bet if this were the Texas, Florida, or California top-80 list we'd see a lot more Michigan State. National brands do not recruit the Midwest.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
...is doing a nice job recruiting the state too.
Godin so low doesn't make sense, but whatever.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
I'm surprised to see the number of players committed to Cincinnati on this list. Is that normal for top Michigan talent? No sarcasm.
August 10th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
Kelly started using his Michigan connections to bring some kids down to Cincy, the last couple years they have battled CMU for a good number of second-tier players. It looks like the new staff is taking over (and going above) what Kelly started.
August 10th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
To expand on this: Butch Jones the CMU coach after Kelly took the Cincy job when Kelly left hence no system change and easy to continue the connections Kelly established/ ones Jones already had running the same system.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
that Ross and RJS could gain a 5th star?
August 10th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
August 10th, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
Does it really matter at this point?
August 10th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
If the numbers had played out differently we also could have had Burbridge, O"Brien and Thompson but with the awesomeness off the Midwest this year spots filled up quick and besides most of those players we "replaced" with one rated as good or better.
I did not know Payne and Norfleet committed to Butch Jones though...Norfleet should be able to do work in his system.
August 10th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
They're still holding the line on Thompson, eh?
August 10th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
You guys are forgetting Sparty is a national recruiting powerhouse they don't worry about the state of Michigan.
August 10th, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
Burbridge but we are on top for Jordan Payton. I don't mind seeing us trade up at all.
August 10th, 2011 at 1:14 PM ^
Burbridge just didn't have the grades.
