If UrbanMeyer wanted to coach football he'd still be winning multiple National Championships in talent rich Florida. Besides, if he quit for his families sake (no, being an ESPN talking head isn't the same as being a head coach, America) then he surely wouldn't forcibly move them from their beach house to central Ohio.

Well said, took the words out of mouth. I'm not sure any coaches are going to be beating down the door to fill that empty spot. The assistants might, but I certainly can't see any Urban Meyer, or even Meyer-like candidates lining up.

What a great day to celebrate but let's not get caught up in the excitement and forget the real reason today is a holiday.

My guess is that the timing is wrong for Meyer to take the job...I think he was burned out from his tenure in Florida.  To go immediately to a new team with a host of problems about to be hurled at tOSU from the NCAA may not be what he wants to face.

It is actually pretty good timing for them IME. The season is a few months away so they will give the new coach the chance to at least have the fall with the team. Also, it gives the new coach a long time to solidify the recruiting class.

I was hoping it would drag out longer and culminate with JT getting the boot sometime during the season. I'm glad the guy is gone, but I wish it would have taken longer.

It will be interesting to see what impact this has on the NCAA and potential sanctions.

didn't have time to read the actual article as I am checking the board between patience. Still, it does the the interim coach time to do both the things I mentioned. Though, it isn't an easy sell when you can't tell recruits who their coach is going to be next season.

Political?  More like the cheap way to fired someone.  If OSU wanted to make a statement that they stood for something better than what they are, they would have fired him long ago or waited until the SI article came out and fired him.

But now they don't have to pay Tressel and Tressel looks slightly less like a dbag.  I would have told OSU to fire and pay me.
