Tressel Resigns per Columbus Dispatch
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Jim Tressel has resigned.
LOUD NOISES
Nope, you can't ruin today! Have fun!!
Happy Memorial Day- jt!
Now is not the time to troll. Now is the time for you to lay low and lick your wounds. Enjoy your Memorial Day.
Would have rather had this drag out a lot longer to adversely influence recruiting, but I'll enjoy this for now.
An interim coach all season long, and recruits won't know who their coach is during that recruiting period...it can't help...
Man I was hoping he would at least wait until tomorrow to see what SI was going to report. Oh well GO BLUE!
saw the article aready -- SI probably forwared a copy for their review. And their reading of the article wasn't good for Tressel. They probably realized that he had to fall on hte sword to limit the damage to OSU from the NCAA.
Uh, I got to believe that SI has already told him and the OSU Athletic Dept what their report is going to reveal and based on this, Tressel was "encouraged" to resign rather than have to endure another firestorm.
Rich Rodriguez is available.
I was making book that someone would announce RichRod's availability within five minutes of posting the story.
That might not work out the way you are sarcastically implying it would.
How long until Urban Meyer replaces him
Don't ruin such a nice moment with this nightmare. Please let us enjoy this for just a little bit longer.
yeah he won a couple nat'l champs in a short period of time, but its not like he had an amazing team every single year, we beat one of his florida teams and they SUCKED last year
they might as well hire him immediately, and turn something positive out of what looks to be a vey toxic situation this season. Turn the news cycle into "Urban Meyer this and Urban Meyer that"." Instead of Tatgate this and tatgate that."
The timing is wrong for Meyer. There's no way to know what's coming down in terms of sanctions. Meyer will be looking for an emerging power - not a sinking ship.
Meyer isn't going to take over a program that's caught under the shadow of the ban hammer. Dantonio, on the other hand ...
If UrbanMeyer wanted to coach football he'd still be winning multiple National Championships in talent rich Florida. Besides, if he quit for his families sake (no, being an ESPN talking head isn't the same as being a head coach, America) then he surely wouldn't forcibly move them from their beach house to central Ohio.
Well said, took the words out of mouth. I'm not sure any coaches are going to be beating down the door to fill that empty spot. The assistants might, but I certainly can't see any Urban Meyer, or even Meyer-like candidates lining up.
What a great day to celebrate but let's not get caught up in the excitement and forget the real reason today is a holiday.
I don't think Urban is coming back to coaching, but I would not be surprised if East Lansing has a vacancy in the near future.
Good riddance sweater vest!
that slimey cheating bastard go. But if Urban Meyer is next in line, we're in deep shit!
My guess is that the timing is wrong for Meyer to take the job...I think he was burned out from his tenure in Florida. To go immediately to a new team with a host of problems about to be hurled at tOSU from the NCAA may not be what he wants to face.
If urban has heart issues from working at Florida, what do you think working in Columbus will do? He will have to have a triple bypass in the first week.
...why someone considered your post "trolling", so I moderated you to "normal".
Thank you good sir!
...I like you; you're one of the more entertaining posters on here.
And it's ma'am.
True... why would he want to take over a team that is going to have scholarship reductions and, more than likely, a multi-year bowl ban? I'm not worried about Meyer.
It is actually pretty good timing for them IME. The season is a few months away so they will give the new coach the chance to at least have the fall with the team. Also, it gives the new coach a long time to solidify the recruiting class.
I was hoping it would drag out longer and culminate with JT getting the boot sometime during the season. I'm glad the guy is gone, but I wish it would have taken longer.
It will be interesting to see what impact this has on the NCAA and potential sanctions.
They won't have a new coach by fall. They'll have an interim for the whole season and not just the 1st 5 games.
didn't have time to read the actual article as I am checking the board between patience. Still, it does the the interim coach time to do both the things I mentioned. Though, it isn't an easy sell when you can't tell recruits who their coach is going to be next season.
I knew OSU was too gutless to ever fire him so this isn't surprising. But I still can't wait for that SI article.
Except that it sounds like they may have actually forced the resignation. Every ostrich has to take its head out of the sand once in a while...
publically, he resigned; however, his options were to resign now be fired tomorrow. I would assume Tressel was offered the same option this morning or yesterday, by Gee and the AD.
More often than not, forced resignation is the political way of firing someone.
Political? More like the cheap way to fired someone. If OSU wanted to make a statement that they stood for something better than what they are, they would have fired him long ago or waited until the SI article came out and fired him.
But now they don't have to pay Tressel and Tressel looks slightly less like a dbag. I would have told OSU to fire and pay me.
Cooper: 2-10-1 against Michigan
Tressel: 9-1 against Michigan
"I guess I woulda cheated too if I had to replace someone who couldnt beat Michiagn."
haha one of my buddies facebook status...peace sweater vest
HELLO EVERYONE??????
In like half a hour.
....but I've got an ESPN live feed open in one tab and OSU's AD website in another:
http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17300
There's a tab on the left side for Press Conferences. Here's to hoping someone streams it.
Looks like they are going to get hit hard. Tressell wants to bail before the shit hits the fan later today.
Is impressed.
I just saw them at Disneyland driking champaign and chocolate covered strawberries together laughing.
Too bad Brady Hoke never got to go Hokeamania on his cheating ass!
I can't wait for the rumors about Little Tressel leaving East Lansing to begin!
