Rumor: SI set to release latest Buckeye findings on 5/31

Submitted by 1464 on

Columbus radio reports that SI will launch their newest round of missiles at OSU a week from today.  In true Buckeye fashion, the radio personality said that SI was 'saluvating' over the article.  I guess the guy covering the story is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist.

It will probably be some of the stuff that we covered on here last week.  But apparently there is new dirt on Tressel going back to his YSU days.  It's about both Tressel and players, and there is a pretty thorough history of this 'thing', whatever it is.  Popcorn sales in Michigan are peaking right about now...

If all this turns out to be even partly true, I won't just be gleeful. I'll be pissed off. OSU's recruiting has been so good for so long that I wondered if some sort of crap was going on. Think about all the losses to them under Tressel. In how many of those games did they have obviously superior talent? Easily more than half. To think that they acquired that talent by cheating is infuriating. You can vacate the record books, etc., but you can't take away how it felt to endure those losses. F*#k them for doing that to us! I wish I believed in hell.

story that Yahoo was hinting at earlier this year? - My gut says no as I don't think they would let SI "scoop" them.

Side note:  If the B-Ball team is hit also it is a shame that Sullinger et. al. decided to stay another year - if they had come out maybe Darius' stock would have dropped and he'd be back in Maize next year. --

See, I don't want this shit to be true. I'm sure as hell not laughing. If the rumors turn out to be true, it will further taint one of the greatest rivalries in sports history. This rivalry is part of what defines our program, and if these rumors are true, I will be exceptionally angry at OSU for ruining it, and incredibly sad that it is ruined. The key to a great rivalry is respect, not hatred, and I have respected OSU for quite some time, no matter how much I hate them.

Will I be happy if they lose? Absolutely. But I will not be happy if they collapse.

Loss of depth for scholarship reduction, national perception kicked in the nuts, record books altered, coach fired, bowl ban, YES.
<br>With the money and resources they have I still expect them to have talent and 8 wins a year, minimum, forever.

can only be good when both teams are competitive. If half of what has been alleged against Tressel and OSU is true they have been cheating all decade. Michigan isn't going to cheat to compete with OSU so it's high time Tressel and they got their come uppance. I would like to beat Tressel and OSU as much as anybody but if it's one-sided because they are filthy cheaters I don't mind seeing them get nuked for a while. The rivalry will be great again when both teams are great and both teams are clean. That clearly isn't happening under Tressel. Bombs away.

Agreed.  The rivalry has been lopsided for the better part of a decade, and up until 6 months ago or so, I thought it was simply that OSU was putting out better teams than us, and nothing more.  Now that I know they got those better teams by cheating (excessively), I want to see them burn.

I don't think OSU's program could ever be destroyed on the level of SMU. Kids in Ohio still grow up loving OSU and when the penalties end, they're still the only real BCS school in Ohio (sorry Cinci). Maybe they'll suck like crazy for a while, but they'll recover

If OSU goes in the crapper?  What happens to our rivalry?

In two words, it's called:

(1) Nebraska (2) Cornhuskers

That's the rivalry waiting to explode.  F--- tSIO.  tSIO will have proven they are NOT WORTHY of being our rival.  I want a rival I can respect, someone squeeky clean who is a monster beast of a program.  I'm hoping NU (YTNU) (???) goes 11-1 every year with us being the 1.

  1. Rivalries like M/OSU come and go all the time.
  2. Remember all of those legendary Michigan players out of Nebraska? I can't believe we snagged Mr. Nebraska, Charles Woodson, to come win the Heisman here.
  3. The geography makes a ton of sense for a rivalry.
  4. Why have a rival you've shared a conference with since 1912 and have played 107 times when you can replace them with a conference member for zero years, with an amazing five games between them.
  5. Nebraska is clean and always has been. We can emphatically say that there was never any steroid use going on in the 1980's. On top of that, it's not like they would have gained an on-field advantage like tattoos give.

However, imagine a rivarly re-filled with "hatred" on our side because of the beat downs we took during their cheating ways, and back on a level - integrity based - playing field after a few years of rebuilding on our part, and a few years of sanctions on their part ... it could lead to a Renaissance.

Also, other than the last three years, and the one-armed-Henne game, I can't really say they had that much of a competitive advantage from those cheating ways.

Give us more. All this will explode come 08-12-11 & what happens after that.  The next 2 + months will be very interesting.   Can't wait for any new Herbstreit's comments on the mighty osu football program !

What I can't understand is how they have just 1 National Championship in that time. Either the SEC is just way better at cheating, or there are still some student athletes who play for the love of the game rather than money or sex.

MilkSteak

That is the case, for sure, but with so many SEC schools competing for them down there, plus out of regioners such as USC, OSU, Texas, and Oklahoma coming in and getting a few every year, you'd think that that wouldn't matter as much.

And many of the kids that are good and stay in SEC country hold offers from OSU and have visited, meaning they either turned down the money to play at another school, or that school is offering more.

I just read the TigerDroppings topic on potential Auburn Apocolyptic-Mega-Violations and I'm starting to believe that one day the FBI and NCAA will come out and erase half of the NCAA football records and hand the death penalty to the entire SEC (except Mississippi State apparently)

...who the real "SCUM" is.

Michigan's incredible recruiting year is about to go supernova. Our 22 person recruiting class will be made up of 90% Michigan and Ohio kids because who needs to recruit nationally when OSU is imploding and MSU is tripping over itself?

To obtain elite talent, I'd rather be 0-12. This disgusts me, especially when you have kids out there that would walk on, just ro have the chance to walk out there in the winged helmet.

I just dont want to see Urban Meyer take over in Columbus. If Tressel is released soon then Meyer would be out of the picture because of the recent exit from Florida.

Lets for a moment assume that some more major allegations do surface next week from this SI report. If  allegations of this magnitude stick then there is really no way to think that Tressel would be able to be retained by Gee. The question to the board is WHO is the next coach?????

May 24th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^

It's too early for Meyer to return, and he's not going to leave retirement for a program riddled with sanctions anyways.

If Tressel does get the boot this year, they'll likely pick a very solid, unspectacular, bean-counting, squeaky-clean true believer.

If Fickell is not implicated in whatever causes Tressel to hypothetically leave, he's one of the prime candidates.  If not, they'll have to look elsewhere.  So who?

Darrell Hazell is another possibility.  Though he was on the program until recently, he was away for the Tatgate shenanigans.  Has most of the upside of Fickell too.

I know some OSU bloggers are suggesting Dantonio, which would be funny in some ways, and not in others.  He had no compunction leaving Cincinnati for MSU, so I doubt loyalty would be a factor.

But for some reason I just don't buy it, not in a hateful way, but healthily skeptical. Something tells me that he has enjoyed a few one time only occurrences this past year- um falling apart, no osu, a solid staff of coaches in place who have now left (Enos, treadwAy). His star will never be this bright again.

If any of that is true, no way is Urban Meyer going to coach in Columbus. OSU would be sanctioned beyond recognition and I don't think Urban is interested in a 10 year rebuilding project

with AD Gene Smith, clueless, and head of the BB tournament selection committee, how bad could this go?  The NCAA has to be careful with this.  If it find Smith was in on all this, how credible will he and his selections committees look when all is said and done?  This could really hur the B1G as well.

So OSU getting burnt to the ground may not be the best thing, but I will still enjoy watching them burn.
