Former Roeper student here (2nd through 8th grade in late '90s/early '00s - left for reasons I'll describe below). At the risk of sounding like a disgruntled Amazon employee, I had a great experience overall, but would look elsewhere if you're looking for a rigorous high school academic environment.
The lower grades are great - I think the non-traditional culture provides better learning opportunities at a young age - but by the time I got to 6th/7th grade it was clear that the inmates ran the asylum. At least once a week, we would show up to class and, if it was a nice day, or someone's birthday, or the teacher just didn't feel like teaching that day, we would take an impromptu walk to the local Dairy Mat, or Kroger, or whatever. Hard to justify paying tens of thousands of dollars for that. Even setting those instances aside, the academics became kind of a joke.
I'm not going to go into the Roeper Philosophy, because "no politics," but let's just say that Bernie Sanders is probably too far right for most of the students/parents/faculty.
Ultimately, I left for a strong public school in the area, because I knew that I'd be better off getting a glimpse of the real world before I went off to college and was thrown into it.
Roeper exists inside its own bubble, which works great when you're in 2nd grade and learning how to tie your shoelaces, but isn't the best if you're in high school and actually trying to learn how to function in the "real world." I'd take them off the list.
I had the pleasure of hearing Phil Longo speak at a Glazier Clinic last year.
Though I don't recall the details of all the X's and O's he covered, his topic had to do with balance in a spread offense... In particular, I remember him talking about the importance of self-scouting and avoiding playcalling tendencies that could tip plays to the defense. (He told a story about a GA noticing that Longo had a tendency to call plays that run towards his own sideline, so he tries to make a conscious effort to avoid that).
His personality reminded me more of an offensive line coach than an OC.... VERY passionate about the intricacies of the offense, blocking schemes, etc. Just a guy who loved talking football.
Not sure he'd be my pick for OC (Putting my support behind Fitchner, FWIW), but Longo is definitely a good football coach.
How does Air Force get someone on the East Second Team? Understand they play in a conference called "Atlantic" Hockey, but, uhh, along with Denver and CC, they are one of the three westernmost college hockey-playing schools.
Separately, Michigan is now in the Pac-12 because our fight song says "Champions of the West."
One thing I haven't heard anyone bring up is the relative sizes of the arenas.
The Resch Center in Green Bay has a capacity of approx. 10,000. The Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul seats around 18,000. While it's certainly possible that Minnesota fans sell out the X on their own, coming close to filling up Resch isn't as hard as if it was an NHL arena. Does the committee really think it needs ND there to sell, say, 8-9k tickets in GB? Or might they gain just as much in attendance from placing ND in St. Paul and ensuring they sell all 18,064 seats there.
I dunno, at this point, I'm grasping for straws as to why Michigan should go to GB.
I fully expect our first round matchup to be in Guam with the Frozen Four on Jupiter.
Anyone else notice the "Burn the Boats" sign behind Red in the locker room? Is this something the team has used all year, or is it new for the playoffs? Interesting that hockey would use the same rallying cry Beilein used for our NCAA tourney run a few years ago.
