Zach Charbonnet out of UA game
December 31st, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
That's disappointing, but would rather him sit out and not make it any worse
December 31st, 2018 at 4:49 PM ^
It was a meaningless game after all!
December 31st, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
Obviously he doesn't respect his teammates.

As I watch LJ Scott give everything to churn out an extra yard in the fricking Redbox Box Bowl I am finding it harder to find that quip funny.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:12 PM ^
Why are you spending NY's eve watching little brother???
December 31st, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
I’m sick.
And I don’t really have much of a life.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Two other bowl games and Netflix to pass the time. Sparty isn’t worth the time.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:55 PM ^
Eh, it’s a pretty good game. And by “good” I mean terrible, but at least it is close.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
Im sick too. I never get sick, but I'm laid up. This sucks.
January 1st, 2019 at 1:45 AM ^
I watched b/c I needed a laugh.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:18 PM ^
Yes, LJ Scott and his incredible work ethic and character. What a guy.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:35 PM ^
Wait till he skips his meaningless bowl game next year!!!
December 31st, 2018 at 5:38 PM ^
He declared for the nfl draft he ain’t coming back
December 31st, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
He pulled that back when he received his grade. He’s not going pro. Ever.
December 31st, 2018 at 7:02 PM ^
Probably not the first time a grade has held him back.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:13 PM ^
Only traffic cops can stop LJ
January 1st, 2019 at 1:48 AM ^
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! GOOD ONE!!! TWO IN A ROW...
January 1st, 2019 at 1:47 AM ^
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! GOOD ONE!!!
December 31st, 2018 at 5:53 PM ^
LJ Scott. There's our standard. Shit. Why can't we have more guys like LJ Scott??
January 1st, 2019 at 1:50 AM ^
Are you talking about LJ Scott driving a standard?
December 31st, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Scott is desperate to impress prior to the NFL Draft. His teammate — who is in better shape in that regard — is sitting out the game. Not Apples to Apples.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:11 PM ^
You do realize Justin Layne, MSU's best corner, is sitting out this game, right?
Also, LJ Scott turned around and declared for the draft after saying he was going to redshirt and return next season. Not exactly someone to whom you should be hitching your wagon.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
I’m not “hitching my wagon” to anybody. All I’m saying is that the man is playing in the game. That’s all.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
Because the chance of impressing even one scout is higher than the risk of injury.
January 1st, 2019 at 1:26 AM ^
Cmon. You can’t be serious. LJ Scott has half assed his way into desperation and this is one of his few remaining opportunities to showcase his skills.

December 31st, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
....and I am sure that he is a captain!
/fuck yes I am still salty!!!
January 1st, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Ahead of the curve- he will sit out 3 straight years at Michigan to avoid injury and get ready for the NFL draft.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
Unfortunate...in other news Trente Jones looks very impressive. Moves well and no bad weight on him.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
So probably not getting that fifth star.
GOOD!
December 31st, 2018 at 4:50 PM ^
Dodging that 5 star curse by getting hurt. It’s so crazy it might just work
December 31st, 2018 at 4:52 PM ^
This was my first thought!
December 31st, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
On the bright side, that might keep him from getting that 5th star!!! So at least we have that going for us
December 31st, 2018 at 4:51 PM ^
He’ll be competing for 1st team reps in about 3 months so, yeah, good to not play in this one.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Since you are here, where are your thoughts on the recent M shitting the bed or more like not giving a shit vs florida?
What are your thoughts on where the offense is going in 2019?
Just give me your thoughts DMT dammit.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:56 PM ^
I told my Florida buddy in Georgia that this would happen - just felt like the inverse of the 2015/6 Citrus Bowl to me where we had overachieved and we’re looking to cap a great year and Florida didn’t really want to be there.
I don’t put a lot of stock in the bowl game, and it didn’t change my thoughts on the team/coaches/season at all. When Shea threw the INT in UF territory with the chance to take the lead back, I knew the game was over. Nothing to do with talent or coaching, IMO, and everything to do with mental edges and the guys we were playing without (an excuse, sure, but Florida isn’t running on us like that if Gary and Bush are out there).
I think the offense will be great next year. 24th in S&P this year, I’d expect it to be too 20 next year. Most important thing is the OL taking another step. If Warinner can get that done, the offense should be playoff caliber. Honestly my only wish is that we implement or call more short, 5-10 yard routes. I think the changes in the run game were good this year and should get better with the OL all returning. I think pass pro was better this year, but could still improve. My only real complaint is too often running very long routes, which allows the D to key on that and blitz, especially with delayed blitzes, against a still-developing OL. You don’t have to eliminate those route combos from the play sheet, but you need to call enough quick hitting pass plays that the defense can’t key on the longer ones.
Ultimately I still think execution is the issue with this team. DL and CBs didn’t get it done against OSU and the OL and TEs struggled as well. Shea throws the pick against UF and was just kind of off. Metellus makes a freshman mistake to blow bracketed coverage and give up a 3rd and 12. The botched coverage handoff that gave up the other 3rd and long. The last two games have really come down to a couple botched plays that swing the momentum and then the team lost their mentals, and it snowballed. We’re not 23 points less talented than OSU and we have more talent than Florida. We don’t have inferior coaches - we’ve seen this staff out coach OSU. There’s no room for error against elite opponents, and you can’t lose your focus or give up with some adversity. I don’t know that everyone that started for us this year has the mental game of champions.
December 31st, 2018 at 10:08 PM ^
Very good takes, offense will improve next year, issue is so much lost on defensive line and so little depth and the little depth is 2 true freshman, that will be a weak spot next year which dline is key to championship teams
December 31st, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
I agree with you regarding the routes and route combos...but I would like to see a lot more change on offense. I would like to see more/better tempo, more RPO, a run pass balance of something like 55-45 rather than 63-47, more 11 personnel, etc.
January 1st, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
63-47? 110%?
We average 69 plays per game. 26.8 passes (38.8%) and 42.2 rushes (61.2) .
January 1st, 2019 at 12:48 AM ^
I concur with Mantis. I think they have intermediate routes but they don’t have the quick slot players that can get separation on those routes. I still believe offensive play calling is a major issue and I believe that has as much to do with offensive line limitations as it does the play calling itself. But that is not the biggest issue.
I think Harbaugh is a maniacal human being when it comes to football. It is not a job...it is an avocation. Not everyone feels that way and certainly college age kids will have varying levels of commitment to anything. But he expects a 110% and when kids don’t give it, they are informed of it, whether subtlety or not. How that’s perceived by kids is not something I know or understand but it seemed like after the Penn State game the tenor of the team changed. There appeared to me to be a tune out by some subset of players either at this not being a meritocracy or too much of one.
You can’t beat OSU with half hearted effort. Even when we sucked they thought about and planned for this game all year. We finally did that with MSU this year. If we don’t do that for OSU we will never climb over this hill.
December 31st, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
Is he going straight to the NFL and avoiding injury risk? ?
December 31st, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
He is sitting out of a meaningless game to prepare for college. /s
December 31st, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
In other relevant news about our class, hearing good things about Trente Jones and Mazi Smith the last 2 days
I believe Mazi Smith will play from day 1.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:07 PM ^
I dont know about day 1, but I will predict that he takes on a starting role as a true freshman. I watched him play live 2x and he is a unique talent.
BTW, the last player that I predicted would play as a true freshman and would have a great career at M was Desmond Morgan.
Mazi has far more upside than Des, but is similar in terms of how he dominated games in HS.
January 1st, 2019 at 9:29 AM ^
Ah Desmond Morgan was awful, so yeah.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:09 PM ^
I heard he was sitting out to get ready for the NFL.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
Maybe it's just me, but I could care less honestly. If anything, I'm glad our top RB recruit is missing an opportunity (albeit very unlikely) to get injured before he arrives on campus.
Can't win when guys aren't healthy, right? Sit out and get healthy, Zach. We'll need you in 2019.
January 1st, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
So you’re glad he got injured so that he misses an opportunity to get injured?
December 31st, 2018 at 6:58 PM ^
It's always cool to see "our" guys playing in these games and hearing Michigan's name called. I don't know if that means anything to uncommitted recruits. But I'd rather have him healthy when he gets to Ann Arbor.
December 31st, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
Mazie Smith was named the 4th best defensive performer today at the UA All American game. Seems he’s impressing.
MSU commit, Julian Barnett was named top defensive player. Still don’t know how we didn’t make a better run at him.
