Woodson on offense in last home game?

I'm unfortunately working today, but while listening to sports radio here in Southern California I heard something that made my ears perk up. There is a report that Charles may play some WR tonight for the Raiders! This game just went from try to watch to must watch for me.

Went down a rabbit hole on Twitter following woodson tweets and it led me to David longs Twitter page. I look forward to him committing. It will be interesting to see if Crawford follows him as that duo was talked about as favoring Michigan together, which feels like a year ago.

Now I have a reason to watch tonight's game. It's also probably the second to last game that the San Diego Chargers will ever play, since it sounds like they are moving to LA. I've been hearing down here in SD that it's a done deal.

Yeah, I'm a transplant to SD and never became a huge Chargers fan, but I have several friends who are big fans, and I feel sorry for them. The Chargers ownership has previously said that if they move to LA, they'll increase their fan base while still keeping fans in San Diego, who will drive up for the games. They will certainly have a bigger market in LA, but they will have pissed off a LOT of fans in SD who will never cheer for them again.

The media has this retirment thing all wrong. He's retiring from Defense and switching to offense for the twilight of his career.  I think he's probably bored of dominating in the secondary and wants a challenge.

It seems like yesterday 2 was shutting down Terry Glenn as a frosh. With him everyone just knew we were watching something special. Even as an 8th grader in '97 I knew I'd probably never see the likes of him again. It's coming full circle for us Michigan fans. As Charles hangs it up, a new 2 way superstar is ready to explode on the scene next year in Peppers. I fully expect Heisman hype to be coming all offseason and to start next year. Peppers is a bit more explosive on offense, but I don't know if I'll ever see someone literally take away a side of the field like Charles did.

They have consistently have not supported NFL and college teams, yet the NFL in pure hubris insists on sticking a team there.

Second to their handling of concussions and domestic violence is the NFL's willingness to move teams from city-to-city. The day they moved the Browns to Baltimore was appalling. All Ohio jokes aside the state of Ohio loves football more than anyone. Football is woven  in it's DNA.Somehow the NFL thought that moving the Browns to a smaller state with much less interest in the game was a good move. Buffoonery at it's worst.

It has been something like 20-25 years ago; There was a fine black QB prospect from Detroit - can't recall the school - but it was from the DPL and they were in town to play the Big Reds at Hackley Stadium. He did eventually sign with Pitt or another D1 team that was havving a bit of success at that time. This was at minimum twenty years before MLK won the first state title for the DPL and prior to Wilcher experiencing his success at Tech.

Muskegon, under the guidance of Dave Taylor, had bounced back to relevance and has maintained that level of success to date. However, the stands were filled to see this kid and his talent. They really had no chance against a complete team, as was normally the case in those days. Only heavies that could compete with the west side powers were from the Catholic League. The kid did put on a hell of a show, throwing some long, arcing pinpoint passes that resulted in a couple of scores but also a few picks. It was after the game though that I got a much better picture of what east side ball was like in those days, sans the Catholic League and the burbs. At Denny's later, I was speaking with some of their fans and someone said, "we had to travel to the west side of the state to draw 7K fans, a number we won't match total the rest of the year." Same was true for many of the Chicago area teams that would make the 180 mile trip. Ohio is definitely the hotbed of the Midwest and I am guessing their mid size schools draw much larger numbers than the largest public schools on the east side of the state.

has been insisting on sticking a team here for 20 years. I'll believe it when I see it, and if it does come to pass, it is the 2nd largest city in the US so I don't see why anyone would complain.

I know a lot of football fans in LA and they are really good football fans. They just happen to be fans of the Cowboys and the Raiders and the Broncos and the Chargers...

I live in LA and agree completely. The only people here who give a damn if there's a team in LA are the sports writers and local radio hosts. I've actually asked plenty of friends if they would buy season tickets and not a single person says yes.

When a team or teams come, the stadium will be full for the first year, maybe two. After that, it will be half filled stadiums with weekend blackouts of the NFL in the second biggest market in the country. Throw in the gangs which invariably latch on to the local team in LA and you'll be hearing about the LA teams looking for a new market within 15 years as attendance plummets. The only way to get an NFL stadium consistently filled in Los Angeles is to have a Patriots level dynasty.

Well, if Charles is going to take some snaps on offense tonight, then all the sleep my wife wants me to get can get stuffed - I feel it is a duty, no matter my state, to watch Woodson's last home game (my wife has just seen this post and is scowling at me).
