Wisconsin unveils alternate uniforms for Nebraska game
Not to be outdone by Nebraska's tribute to The Noid of Dominos commercial fame, Wisconsin just unveiled the "feaux-back" uniforms they will wear in Lincoln this fall:

Concur. The designer should've pressed the "Bold" button when choosing that W font. The thinness of the W lines denote weakness, in contrast to the typically thick Wisconsin W. Beforehand, I would've preferred a thicker M on our uni's for UTL but in retro I wouldn't change that night one bit. I find I am questioning my sexual orientation after writing this paragraph.
I like it a lot better than the W they usually use.
Electrical/Electricians tape. As in the schoolyard.
sure hope it looks better in person!
looks very cheap! like someone tried to adorn a pee-wee football uniform with a couple of rolls of red and white masking tape!!
Looks real similar to something I did to an almost all white uniform back when I was in middle school using some red specialty tape. Even the colors are the same!
Maybe I should ask Adidas for a design job. 8P
The whole uniform looks incredibly cheap to me. Like a small budget high school team
I was going to compare the helmets to my high schools but, honestly my high schools look a lot better.

Obviously trying to go with the same theme of UTL, but I don't like these as much, but that may just be the bias speaking.
This will be the ugliest matchup in the history of college football
Actually, in retrospect, those bumblebee uniforms don't look quite as bad.
just... no. they are still an abomination.
I was more or less joking, but I actually think they look better than Nebraska or Wisky's uniforms here.
As stand-alone jerseys, the away one may actually look better. But when you combine them with the helmet, it's a different story.
The blue jersey blended well with the blue in the helmet. The white jersey, blue/maize bumblebee stripes and blue helmet with its own stripes caused convulsions.
Maryland vs Miami 2011 would like to have a chat with you
Retro Uni guidelines need to be better established. THE NCAA MUST STEP IN! I mean, it's the Wild Hideous West out there right now. There are basically four types of uni's prancing about out there, two of which are acceptable, and another two of which usually are not. My personal take on each:
Acceptable:
1. Standard uniforms. Always acceptable because that's the standard uniform anyway, and frequently an upgrade. For example: Sparty's new standard issue uni's with their wider stripe across teh helm and the darker green are vast improvement over decades of Moo U green. Same could be said for Arizona State with their Fear the Fork uni's. Exception: Oregon because it has no standard uniform.
2. True Throwbacks. No matter how hideous, these are always acceptable if (a) used very sparingly (once every year tops) and (b) they closely mirror actual historical uniforms, thus trumping all haters with the "genuine" card. Great examples include NFL throwbacks from the Steeler and Packers, and the Lions' beautiful throwbacks when they lose the Lion on the helmet and go pure silver.
The following two types are unacceptable, unless they look so damn kick ass they get a pass, which they seldom do.
3. Modernized throwbacks. I'd put UTL uni's and the Killer Bees MSU uni's in this category. They are almost always unacceptable because they are usually the twisted progeny of some demented marketing nerd's effort to splice tradition with modern zippo, zoom, swoosh style marketing looks. They are genetic abominations with no place in our eco-system. Occasionally, if they come out beautiful, they can get an uneasy pass. I can think of no such exception however.
4. Pro combat. These uniforms have no excuse for existing and no redeeming quality. They exist only to line merchandizing pockets, and don't even have the decensy to harken back to legacy as an excuse. OSU's Wisconsin game uni's come to mind. Then there's that genetic tragedy that happened down in Maryland with the flag uni's... Gag reflex abated.

I agree that this will be ugly. If they are going to be this absurd, I would rather see one team wear chartreuse and the other wear tie-dye.
is that fugly.
Personally the W looks goofy, but the rest isn't too bad.
It's pretty similar to the W that their University (not athletic department) uses
They obviously haven't gone to the Dave Brandon school of brand image
ummm... not it's not.
see the much more thorough explanation by robpollard below.
they are both W's?
These are two different types of fonts. The uniform is a sans-serif font; the University font you showed above is a serif font (i.e., it has those little decorative lines, in this case at the top of the letter).
An example for those MS Word users out there is Arial (sans serif) vs Times New Roman (serif).
I'm guessing the uniform designers went with the sans-serif b/c it was "cleaner" but man, do they manage to look basic, yet ridiculous.
These uniforms (and the Nebraska ones) are ugly. Not sure if they're worse than the bumble-bee's, but they are bad.
And way more of a font expert than I am. Someone below notes that they used to have a similar simple W on their helmets in the 60s.
I think their uniforms below from 50 years ago are pretty ugly as well, but that's clearly the inspiration (at least in part) for these uniforms. I was just pointing out that the "W" on the uniform doesn't really match the "W" on the logo you posted.
As an aside, many institutions have logo incongruity. The famous "Old English D" for the Detroit Tigers actually has two forms - which I didn't even realize until a couple years ago, so even font "experts" don't realize stuff staring them in the face sometimes. It happens.

I don't like...
Not when it's a block M. If the UTL jerseys didn't have the shoulder stripes, they would have been incredible.
I personally do not like them at all, never have. My fear is that this fad will be lingering around for a few years and we certainly have not seen the last of them.
It's not like my Cubs have much use for it
/self zing
/but really, we're 20 games under
I see they decided to use the worst possible W font possible.. is that arial lmao
first graders designing the uniforms now?
That roided up adidas model is keeping busy this summer.
they need a cheese and brat eating, beer drinking 320lb lineman. Imagine how small that W and how large the sea of white is going to be in real life.
Reminds me of this guy.
I kinda like 'em. Wisconsin's regular uniforms are ugly already. You can't really go wrong with redesigning them.
Agree - I think this is a step up for them. They really should ditch that lopsided W that they've adopted as their regular logo. This one is better.
At least our guy wasn't in a white-bricked basement
Wow, the creative juices are really flowing over there at Adidas. So, our uniforms weren't really throwbacks, or is Nebraska and Wisconsin wearing our throwbacks? I'm confused...
The UTL jersey was never billed as a throwback, but as a "legacy" jersey meant to represent the history and tradition of our program, incorporating elements from throughout the football program's history. Or something.
That's a really nice gesture on Wisky and NU's part to keep honoring our past.
"synergize the thematic icons into an amalgam of dynamic excitement leading to enhanced recognition." Etc.
