Why Are People Defending Hoke?

Submitted by 303john on

I for the life of me don't see him staying..

From Marcus defending him and Jon Jansen defending him today on his podcast..

Is it the Carr faction grasping at straws??

On a side note did anyone listen to Marcus Ray this morning?

He basiclly called Hoke out when he was stating OSU out coached MSU..

Amazing.

The only way i would accept him back is if he wins convincenly for the rest of the games after DBs resignation. A lot people though that maybe just maybe DB was holding him back and interfering with his work..well guess what since DB has been gone nothing has changes. We are still very bad and Hoke still cant coach.
If Hoke would have showed improvement after the whole DB debacle i wouldnt mind having him come back and in the mean time let the new AD take his time to hire the new coach, BUUUuT why keep him now.
At least give Nuss a year to try and turn this team around if we cant find our guy just yet..we cant afford messing it up this time around.

Bro, after all the bad times the past 7 years, I'll settle for any wins. I won't fault a team for winning close.

If they beat Ohio, in Ohio, I might get on the "turning the corner" bandwagon for a bit.

Another year of Hoke doesn't scare me if he can find ways to win. What terrifies me is the prospect of a non-Harbaugh hire, and going through this whole thing again in 3-5 years.

The Nuss idea is interesting, he was being looked at for HC by a few programs. But, our offense is kinda bad right now, so I dunno about him either.

Fuggitall, Jim Harbaguh or self-immolation.

again, everyone says what you said, but what behavior can you point at and use as an example?

Nice? --Because he claps a lot?

Cool head? - Stuggling on this...doesn't wear long sleeves? I don't know, he can't manage games so this point is not valid.

Great guy in general? - Another meaningless point unless you can point to something that a Michigan HC doesn't do to be 'a good guy'.

I'm tired of these qualitative qualities that Hoke supposedly has.

. . . the need to defend or feels sorry for Hoke? The dude's walking away with several million bucks in his pocket after all is said and done. I have no empathy for Hoke.  How many of you guys on this will get that package from your employer?

This argument doesn't make sense to me as a fan. I like hoke and don't want him fired but if it happens as a fan I should just hate the next coach because the guy I liked got canned. That just keeps up the instability in our fan base and is counter productive to what I love... Michigan football.

No more than we do...maybe many things have banded together beyond certain control that we don't know or see. Why is it so hard for some to realize they might not know it all?

The fan base basically fired Borges last year in retrospect was that a great idea?

I think he goes and probably deserves to go, but it's not hard to like Hoke and I wish more than anything he was the one to turn it around.

Denial sucks that Borges shouldn't have been fired. He failed and should have been fired. Nuss took over an offense where players say winning isn't the only statistic. Joke is a cancer to Michigan football and our rivals love him for a reason. Would you want Cooper back at Ohio? He was ten times the coach that Hoke is. Look into Hoke's eyes on the sideline. He is so fucking scared, unprepared and lost that it's sad. Does the team not sense that? My money is on yes that they do sense it.

this is--    Where It Is--    at this point.  The TRUMP Card in all of this is--    the Isaac-Peppers Combo for NY.

Now--    if there IS a loss H-Mry, then Im sure Most People will say

well--    I dont really care about The Trump Card  . . .

BUT--    you get a WIN H-Mry,  and then a Bowlgame-W, and I think most people are saying

--you know what, I kinda Like That Trump Card thats out there  . . .  GIMME that Trump Card

I think I have this deciphered and when you read it as walkin it does make sense. The key for next year is Peppers and Isaac. If we loose to Maryland at home no one will care about this combo and will want hoke fired. But if we win at home to Maryland and a bowl game that Peppers Isaac combo will look mighty tasty for a lot of wins next year.

That is who is on here, and a few slow people that hate the players. The poor players are getting screwed by Hoke's uninspired, no planning, winning isn't everything, silly ass tactics.

This is Michigan

It's simple for me. Hoke, I believe is building stability despite results not being to par and taking longer than most expected. Unless there is a sure-fire candidate (i. e. Harbaugh is the only one in my opinion) that can minimalize the transition, win now and sustain success, how significant is one more year of shityness on top of a decade of shityness by letting play out his contract?

I don't think you can call the past two years stable. Results have been worse every year and the program is in turmoil. One more year crates the program more and he still gets fired. Do you think this team is better next year with Hoke or has a good long term outlook with him?

It's very significant because Michigan is in a very percarious position. As bad as things have gone on the field, the one area where Hoke has succeeded is recruiting. The cupboard is not bare right now. While the turmoil of this season will probably torpedo the recruiting class this year, the class is small and it's impact on the roster will be minimal. The 2016 recuiting class though is going to be very big and figures to be key to the long term success of this program and it will be impossible for Hoke, with the lame duck tag on him, to stock it with top-flight recruits. We crater two recruiting classes in a row and we're looking at another rebuilding project for any coach we bring in. I agree with the general sentiment that replacing Hoke for the sake of replacing him is not the most productive move that we could make, but let's not kid ourselves over the consequences of doing nothing. Sticking with Hoke for another season probably means the program continuing to struggle for 4 or 5 more years. Four or five more years of struggling means more fan apathy, means less interest from potential recruits....this thing could snowball quickly.

1. Solely to irritate people like you

2.  Because he's the head coach

3. Because obviously there are at least some former players who think this is just a rough patch and things will get better.

In regards to #3, I don't see it happening.  I think the OL will be pretty good next year, but the QB ?  Morris doesn't look ready.  Furthermore our WR's and RB's are proving  to be big, athletic... but slow.  So what next season will change?  I expect another year of struggle offensively.

If Harbaugh is available you throw the checkbook at him.  Tell Hoke "nice try, but..." We need someone to come in, erase the Brandon stain on this program and get back to winning.

All I can say is that I couldn't wait to read recruiting roundup here 2x/wk or listen to it on WTKA everyday. It's THE one thing I did every day. I loved it. Now, every time I see it here and on the WTKA podcast, I get sick to my stomach. I skip over it and it makes me sad. This is why I hate Hoke. He took something I loved and made it into sadness.

Dude is a deer in headlights.  If you want that for your coach of Michigan football, defend him all you want.

At the end of the day, it won't matter, because he is not up to the task at Michigan, if he ever was anywhere.  Greatest quality---saying yes to whatver Brandon said.

Worst quality---too numerous to mention.

Great guy, wish him well, but it's time to get a real coach.

Seriously...

The product on the field this year has been pathetic.  Hoke has had 4 years.  No one has done so little with so much.  Hoke should have been fired after the Notre Dame game.  The program needs someone to come in and kick some ass.
