Hooray for another night of CFB action!
September 6th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
Indeed, its like crack... not that i would know
September 6th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
I would know, and yes, you are correct.
September 6th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
Go Hokies! I just want Boise State to go away.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:03 PM ^
I don't know if Boise can stop the run against that big O-line for Va Tech, and I am not sure if Va Tech can win by playing Beamer Ball. I really have no idea what to expect. Va Tech 24-20.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:09 PM ^
Boise's D will slow down VT's rushing attack and get them a 27-21 W.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
I hope Boise and I'll say Boise. I am all about the small conferences crashing the SEC biased BCS party.
Anything that moves the whole thing towards a playoff, I root for. Boise and TCU winning out does that.
I feel more like an outsider to the system as a Michigan fan now than a few years ago. Were like Boise in we gotta go earn it on the field.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
a lot of points against VT defense who has to replace pretty much the entire starting lineup. BSU returns just about everybody from last year with no significant loss. I'm expecting BSU to score at least 30 points.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
I am not looking forward to another year of Boise complaining about being overlooked when they are busy playing mediocre or worse teams the majority of the year. But, VT is a bigger recruiting rival for us.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:30 PM ^
Agreed. Their schedule is terrible. Who has honestly ever heard of Idaho State? Let alone Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Fresno State, TCU, and Washington. Might as well add Georgia, Boston College, Arkansas and BYU to the list of unknown teams...
September 6th, 2010 at 8:08 PM ^
I'm not sure what your point is but they only play Oregon State from the teams you mentioned. Their schedule for this year is as follows:
@VT, @Wyoming, Oregon St, @New Mexico St, Toledo, @San Jose St, Lousiana tech, Hawaii, @Idaho, Fresno St, @ Nevada, Utah St.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
that plays 1-2 good games a season.
Its like a 2 game schedule, the major conferences face several good or decent teams and a major part of the respect comes from surviving the season long pounding.
Until they play a consistent schedule, its a joke to rank them in the top 5.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
It's not their fault. Every year they try to schedule big name teams and people refuse to play them. And it's not like they wouldn't accept an invitation to the Pac 10. I got mad love for Boise.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
its not out fault they dont play anybody so they get no respect
September 6th, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
Um...Boise lost their D Coordinator so they will have their own adjustments to work with.
Another thing that no one in the media seems to talk about is that in all of Boise's games against the big boys they have never faced a team that will stick with a downhill running game for 60 mins. Facing spread teams like Oregon, OU, and TCU always worked into their favor. We will finally see what they do against a power running team that will keep it between the tackles.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
September 6th, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
VaTech wins this one big... 35-21 with help from a pick-6
September 6th, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
Boise St is clearly the better team right now. Now I know how it feels to be an "expert."
September 6th, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
I want either BSU or TCU to run the table, go to the championship game, and get trounced. Unless, of course, I get my dream "clusterbleep" rematch of this game. The BCS has been lucky enough to have compelling matchups that get good ratings. When this happens, they have no motivation to change anything. So, I am hoping that their game is a dog this year.
The only exception I would root for is for Michigan to be as good as they looked yesterday, have a year where every close game goes their way, run the table, and create the most compelling matchup I can imagine: Michigan vs anybody.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
I hope Ohio State isn't in the championship game...
September 6th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
VT is going to roll. Boise St. plays a one or two game season.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
and they usually win the one or two games they play
September 6th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Our definitions of "usually" must be very different. They beat OU two (three?) seasons ago and beat Oregon last year. That's great, really. I'm happy for them, but they play a bunch of high school teams in between the one or two actual games they play per season. Good for them, they can leave now.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
I didn't claim they played a tough schedule. But typically they win their big games. They beat Oregon and TCU last year, Oregon the year before that(though they lost to TCU) they lost to Washington and Hawaii before that and in 2005 they won at Utah and beat Oklahoma. So I consider winning 5 of their 8 big games since 05 "usually".
September 6th, 2010 at 8:25 PM ^
Put it this way; if we played 8 UMass teams and one Wisconsin or Iowa would you think we earned our way into the National Championship? The answer is no. They play one or two games per season that are even worth playing. Beating 8 UMass squads nets you nothing. Join the Big Twelve and see how fast Texas slaps you down every year... Boise should not be in the NC convo, IME.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
I'll not completely disagree with that(although if there are no other undefeated BCS teams they should go). I'm just saying they usually win their 1-2 game schedule.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
If there is no other team undefeated then Boise St. will be #1 and will definitely go. I am just not certain winning one or two games per season is enough to earn the invite. I don't really care for the "nice story" of Boise St. if you can't tell. Small conference teams should either earn their way into big time conferences or play anyone anywhere in the OOC schedule. That is the only way they can say they deserve anything.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:36 PM ^
Boise, probably 35-27 or something like that. Va Tech never seems to win against top-5 teams, and BSU has had a whole offseason to prepare for this game. Beamer ball will keep it close, but BSU won't lose this early.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
Doesn't Va Tech have the entire offseason to prepare too?
September 6th, 2010 at 8:16 PM ^
Yeah, but Boise has shown an ability to over-scheme more talented teams when given enough time. But yes, I get the inconsistency in my statement.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
...win this one 27 - 20. And I'm not just saying that because my son is a VT freshman. Well maybe I am.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Anytime Boise has played one of the big boys they have won, no matter the stakes. You have given Chris Petersen an entire offseason to prepare for 1 game. Advantage Boise. Boise knows what VT is going to do, while VT has no idea what Boise might do. Kellen Moore is one of the best qb's in the country and he will show the nation that tonight. Boise by ten.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Oh god the horror of Boise's helmet.
Welcome to the XFL!!! PIZZZZZA!
September 6th, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
the matte finish va tech helmets don't bother me, but those boise helmets are just bad.
both teams are sporting nasty unis, overall.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Great moments are born from great opportunity.
And that's VT has here tonight, boys. That's what they've earned here, tonight.
One game.
If VT played them ten times, Boise State might win nine.
But not this game. Not tonight.
Tonight, Tech keeps up with Boise's hot offense.
Tonight, Tech stays with them, and they will shut them down because they can!
Tonight, VT is the greatest college football team in the world.
They were born to be football players -- every one of them.
And they were meant to be here tonight.
This is their time.
Boise State's time -- is done. It's over.
I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great football team the Boise State Broncos have. I'm sick and tired of hearing about their cupcake, creampuff schedule.
Screw them!
This is Tech's time!
Now go out there and take it!
VT 24-21
September 6th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Ryan Williams goes man's game and VT wins by 10.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:49 PM ^
Go to Tech but can't root for them. The people here have no idea what they're talking about and it's so annoying. This isn't because I'm not a fan but Boise State wins. I still find it funny that people say Boise State plays nobody. I guess the Pac10 champ last year didn't cut it. Or Oregon State the last couple of years. Or the Big12 champ in 2006. Or even a top 10 team in Virginia Tech.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
They play nobody this season other than Oregon State and VT.
VT has the best chance of ending those national championship dreams for BSU
September 6th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
And how is that their fault? Very few teams are willing to play home and home with them and it's not their fault that Hawaii and Fresno have dropped their end of the bargain in making that conference competitive. They're moving to the MWC which should help with the strength of schedule.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
I thought everyone had left it by now. TCU goes to the Big 12, the WAC might be a better conference.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
You are right, it's not their fault. But, there is no upside to playing them anywhere. If you win, you are suppose to, if you lose, you are humiliated.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
They actually play 12 teams and the possibility of 14 in all...
September 6th, 2010 at 7:49 PM ^
This could easily go either way, but my prediction is VT scores late in a the 4th to take the lead and get the win.
Final Score : 38 - 34 VT
September 6th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
I am honestly trying to understand why this is a question. What has Virginia Tech done to make people think they are going to win this game? Boise St would roll through the ACC without a problem every year. Boise St has 2 more BCS victories than Va Tech the past five years and return 19 starters off that 13-0 team. Boise is going to do what they always do when people doubt them and roll.
Boise 31
Va Tech 14
September 6th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
Why are you so smart? I like you.
September 6th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
BSU covers +2...that's what really matters.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
are uggly. It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted to wear maroon or orange, so they just had somebody scribble all over them. Not that I'm a fan of Boise's helmets either, though.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
Is this becoming the game thread or are we moving along to somewhere else?
September 6th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
34-27 Broncos.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
Am I watching the CFL? Both teams uniforms belong somewhere north of International Falls.
