Who missed the last 20 seconds of Minnesota NEGBANG
The State of our Threads just got posted, but it does not contain at least one, loud, F-bomb eminating from my family room last night. With the last 7 years of roller coaster expectations and thundering disappointment from what used to be our football team, I turned off the game and threw down the remote after the Minnesota “touchdown”. I went to bed mad - like so many times before.
Then I wake up to the Seth’s write up, the two (!) POSBANGS, multiple replay videos, and this:
Great win for the team and a building block for their progression. It’s fantastic that we got the Jug back!
Shame on me for doubting. Who else missed the end -- on purpose? Post your confession and take your down votes!

Did you turn off the tv with 10 seconds to go against MSU and go to bed happy? (not a bad idea in retrospect)

And I felt like I did for 7 years. I didn't want to see all the Minnesota celebration after watching Sparty's.

How do you do that as a fan? Even when the outcome is misery...I just can't do it. I have to watch till the bitter end, and than watch the replays, over analyse the outcome...what coulda, shoulda happened. I dont know...is it just me?

Under the Hoke era I'd never turn it off, but I'd often mute the TV as soon as the outcome was apparent (usually around halftime). So I didn't have to listen to the misery.

I think the only game I've turned off (or rather left the sports bar with no ability to watch at home) was the Rich Rod Wisconsin game where we had something like 5 turnovers and 17 yards of total offense in the first half. I learned my lesson there!

I'm with you. Whether I'm watching at home, or in the stands, rain, sleet, snow, whatever the hell came from the sky NW 2008, regardless of score or even hope. I watch. I endure.
I am a fan.

Once we went down 5, I left the room I was watching it in with my family, and went to a seperate room to watch.
That game was frustrating me more than I would like to admit.

Yea-I was tempted when they scored, but then I thought....PEPPERS. There is a chance. Luckily we didn't even need to go there.

I missed seeing only the Minnesota touchdown that wasn't live. I was so stressed just before that I needed to step out for half a cigarette. When I came in I heard the cheers before I could see the screen but knew what happened. The first thing I did see was a "Sad Michigan Fan" close-up. Then...the review, the play is over-turned. And Minnesota derps. Glad I did hang in and keep watching.

Why would you do that? IIRC, there were about 17 seconds left. Did ya happen to turn your TV back on for the Miami game? They don't even have Jabbrill or Jehu.

at a bachelor party in a strip club telling strippers to get away from me while watching the ending. Everyone else in the party needed an excuse to get the Atlantic City "women" away from us and that was mine.

I turned off the 2011 UTL game right before Michigan's comeback began, and was shocked to see the slew of text messages on my phone the next morning. I was about to go storming around the house after the Minnesota catch on this game, but regained (slightly) my composure after seeing the replay and the receiver being just short. That said, that 3rd and 17 conversion prior to the big catch was just brutal.

I never stop watching until 0:00. Experience has told me that.
It does not happen that often, but when I add it up over years of watching Michigan, I come up with a double-digit number of surprise wins or losses. That's a lot to miss if you turn it off early.
Here are some just off the top of my head. These are not close games, ala Penn State 1995, these are games where you were sure the outcome was determined, good or bad, only to be surprised:
1995 vs. Virginia. W
1999 vs. Illinois. L
2000 vs. Purdue. L
2003 vs. Minnesota. W
2004 vs. MSU. W
2008 vs. Wisconsin. W
2011 vs. Notre Dame. W
2015 vs. MSU. L
2015 vs. Minnesota. W

Tied at the end of regulation, so it's a little different. But I stayed all the way through that "wheel route" debacle.
November 1st, 2015 at 11:55 AM ^
That one never felt like the outcome was determined until the very end. But these other ones, it felt like the game was decided late and you were tempted to leave early or turn off the TV.

After the quick wheel route TD in OT, I didn't know if we could pull it out. Glad I stayed!
That was my first DVR lesson in "extend recording". I always add an hour now to every game I record!

I don't remember exactly who missed which kicks, but yeah--M had missed three fairly easy FGs to that point in the game, and I believe Brabbs had been pulled for another kicker who also missed one or two. Had we simply hit a couple of those kicks, we wouldn't have needed the game-winner at the end--which was pretty long (44-yards, IIRC). But I remember the post-game press conference when somebody asked Brabbs why he had missed the earlier kicks, and he said "because I wanted to hit the game winning kick at the end." Bam!

We were going from bar to bar in Lansing, my girlfriend had a pretty awesome Halloween costume so she was all about getting to the places that had contests. Because of this I had grudgingly accepted that I was just going to miss a lot of the game. Of course, every place we went was douchey State fans cheering on the Gophers so I was pretty much just like whatever. Walked out of one bar just as they overturned the TD when Stribling got burned, the State fans were going nuts and I didn't want to be in there if Minnesota punched it in on the next play so I was like OK we can bounce. Walked into the next place just as the final attempt was stuffed, State fans were pissed and it was beautiful.

It wasn't meant to be bragging, it was her costume, not mine. And it was awesome in the sense that it was unique and she put a lot of work into it, not because it was revealing.

I definitely left the chat when Minnesota started marching down the field on the last drive. Cannot stand to see other people bitching when I'm trying to be zen lol.

1) ESPN -- and only ESPN -- vanished from my cable choices around the end of the first quarter. (I was DVRing it, too -- but my DVR goes to a blank screen then).
2) WatchESPN works reasonably well, but for a few moments when the action freezes and resumes mid-play. Then, just after halftime, it cuts out. Figuring it might be a Chrome issue, I try my luck with Explorer or Edge or whatever the MS browser is called.
3) That works great -- except for no sound. (Had BTN been broadcasting, I'd have viewed it as a feature, not a bug). Meanwhile, I have no idea why Speight is in there, as I missed the Rudock injury play and I have no sound to fill me in.
4) I end up watching the last 10 minutes, including the last play, on my phone. Thanks god for that, although my 45-y.o. eyes are just a little bit more squinty this morning.
Morals of the story:
- I hate Comcast. Seth should add a few more offline F-bombs to his chart, if their is a tag for "anti-cable provider rant."
- Back in the simple days of there being 4 possible games to watch on TV for the whole country, all day, none of this would have ever happened. (And I probably would have missed the game entirely).

i've seen too much shit, good and bad, to leave sporting events early. even in blowouts, you never know if you may miss one of the greatest plays you'll ever see.

Like all the fans missed that walked out before the end of Braylon fest.

I watched but got pissed at my wife. We're both watching it on the couch, as Minnesota is driving she says the dreaded words "Why are you worrying? You're winning. You're going to win". The same words she said in the MSU game. I turned to her and said "I can't believe you just said that again".
Minnesota allegedly scored, I looked at her with such disbelief she cursed us again. I say "See, this is why you never say that! Two weeks in a row you jinxed us!". She replies, "No, you will win. You will see". I reply "You love to torture me".
I was pleasantly surprised and now owe her one hell of an apology present.

She was very tired from chasing the kids around trick-or-treating, which happens every year. So, we celebrate her birthday on Nov 1, which is my youngest daughter's b-day.
