Who's your starting offensive line next week?

Submitted by readyourguard on

To complement the RB thread, I'd like to know what everything thinks about the starting OL next week, now that Glasgow returns to play?  I tried to watch the OL from my seats today and I saw some good things, but also saw Miller get pushed into the backfield once or twice.  BTN focused on the OL during their highlight show, and to MY surprise, Magnuson had some very nice seal blocks that helped free Smith and Green. (I was critical of him after watching a couple clips from practice).

So, who you got?

LT - Cole

RG - Mags

C - Miller

RG - Kalis

LT - Braden

But it's hard to keep track of the line unless you're trying to, and I wasn't.  I just saw that he had some great down field plays (yeah, pointed out by the commentators) and a few times I saw him pancake a guy.

I really only noticed the good stuff, though.  That's part of the reason I like the UFRs here.

Yeah, that was his one ugly play. He took a step back into protection to sell pass and his guy just stood straight up instead of rushing in. That separation was enough to catch Kalis off guard when the defender sniffed out the draw play and let him run around Kalis for the TFL.

Otherwise, I thought he looked really good. I think Burzinyski starting was a classic reward the Senior that had a good week in practice move. They pulled him for Kalis pretty quickly.

Same, untrained eye, didn't focus on the line every play. I did notice Kalis was directly responsible for one tfl. He went right creating a gap between him and miller when it was a run play to the left. Defender easily got through and got green from behind. With that said, that is the only bad decision I saw from him. I'd expect he would be positive in an ufr.

not sure why, based solely on Saturday performances.

Kalis is talented, but on that "questionable" play call where they went draw on 3rd and long, Kalis got beat inside by his guy.

Miller did some good things today, but I will continue to question his ability to take on talented 300+ pound DTs.

I'd go with Glasgow replacing Miller, but I think Hoke goes Cole-Mags-Miller-Glasgow-Braden.

I'd switch Glasgow in for miller, and leave Kalis at RG. Didn't notice Miller much today, which is good, but just can't imagine him being an upgrade over Glasgow after last year.

Like Brian, I am a fan of Glasgow.  He is big and strong and is a capable blocker.  Initially I would have inserted him in place of Mags, but now I think he goes back to Center.

Then again, I'd hate to futz with chemistry after such a strong rushing performance.  Wally Pipp agrees with me.

I'm going to go with LT-Cole, LG-Mags, RG-Kalis, RT-Braden. All easy enough for me. But my problem is that I THINK I want Glasgow in the game, so I might put him in at center. To me, that makes more sense than putting him in at LG and Miller at center.

Actually ND's DEs are very young players.  The big experienced dude is inside.  The tackles are going to be mostly playing guys their age or within 1 year thankfully vs ND.  Guards and center have their hands full however.

I have to imagine Glasgow is going to be in the lineup next week, and I think it's a 50:50 chance Cole or Miller comes out. Cole did a fine job against App St., but they listed his size as 275 lbs on tv(I know I've seen him listed as heavy as 292, but I think that's grossly inflated). I don't think 275 lbs is going to hold up against the more talented DEs our LT could be facing. I don't feel it's a wasted red shirt, because he could be our 6th man, who will probably see time down the schedule.

He wasn't bad, but I think Mags-Glasgow-Miller-Kalis-Braden is best, especially for the running game. Either that or bench Miller, I guess, but he held up against the ogre.

I think we're all-in with Cole at this point. Kid started his first game as a Wolverine because he earned it.  I think benching him at this point could have long lasting ill-effects.

All arrows point to it being Cole, Mags, Miller, Kalis, Braden.

Hoke has said repeatedly that Miller is outperforming Glasgow.

The left side is set...so that's Glasgow and Kalis and Glasgow has been spending more time practicing at RT than RG.

It's nice to have a guy who can come off the bench who can play 4 of the 5 positions on the line. IMO, Glasgow is your 6th OL and they'll role with the 5 above to build chemistry.

Glasgow will come in at center for Miller.  Jack struggled several times to get any push and was pushed into the backfield a few other times.

So I'm going with...

LT- Cole

LG- Mags

C - Glasgow

RG - Kalis

RT - Braden

by Smith at the Game ... even better on replay.  Blocked his man all the way into the zone ...and keep on going after the TD.  Awesome.

Man, I didn't think it'd be this hard to figure out who Glasgow will replace, or that Glasgow sitting could actually be a possibility, but that's how it's looking.

Cole wasn't very good in run blocking but was adequate. He was pretty solid in pass pro except his one bad play where he got beat with the swim move.

Magnuson was solid. Had a couple nice plays where he was able to take a handoff on the NT from Miller that let Miller release and vice versa. Had a good pull on a POWER play that looked very fluid.

Miller was really very solid. He was pretty instrumental in all three of the long runs.

Kalis was absolutely riding LBs downfield all day long. Seemed move really well. Had one bad play on a TFL on the 3rd and long draw play, but more than made up for it. Probably 2nd most important lineman after Miller on those long runs.

Braden was rock solid in pass pro. Sealed the edge a couple times and consistently got push.

I really don't think you can look at this game and decide who you're going to pull for Glasgow, if anyone, and that's amazing. I think it'll come down to who does best in practice this week, where better competition may cause some separation between guys.

Gun to my head, I'd say Glasgow sits next week and is first off the bench in case someone does poorly with the high pressure, hostile environment.

I'd sit Glasgow. The line looked decent today, and none of them have a DUI. Make Glasgow earn his way back. Or see if the C and Ts can hold up.
