What's on your regular Michigan/CFB content list?

Submitted by canzior on

This season has been the most fun i;ve had in 10 years as I think is the case with all of us.  Even to the point where I enjoy reading non-Michigan oriented content for their take on Michigan.  What's on your reading list? (I have 2 hours per day on the train, so plenty of time to read)...top 14 (in no particular order after Mgoblog)

Mgoblog

TTB

Maize n Brew

Bleacher Report - Michigan

247

MgoFish

Wake Up College Football Podcast/Youtube videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSzzm6d3vi8 (highly recommend: this week they asked...would anyone care if MSU Rutgers was cancelled?)

Michigan Football 101 on Youtube

EDSBS

TodaysU.com

CFBstats.com

WTKA podcasts on AudioBoom

I also read Michgian Monday because it's linked on here and I enjoyed "The Hybrid" that Brian linked on the Iowa is Awesome site.

And I will peruse the upcoming opponents sites as well to see what their general perception is of the upcoming week.

Anyone have anything else to share?

I'm pretty disappointed with SBNation in general because they've genericized every team's page to the point where there's very little unique left.

read TTB quite a bit by the way, but I am ready for you to shake it up.  I am assuming it is just an "on the side" thing for you so I know you can't dive as deep into things as they do here, but if I have a complaint regarding your content it is that it is somewhat formulaic, not your writing really but what you post (i.e. it is Monday so this goes here, it is Tuesday so this goes here).  If you have the time and the inclination, I could do with a little more "op-ed" type of content and/or heavier focus on the Xs and Os of certain plays, packages, etc. This is not a "complaint" by any means, you are writing good stuff and I am reading it for free at my leisure.  Just more of a suggestion from a long time reader.

Could use a few more book reviews too.  I've got readers block right now.

like the MGoBlog MGo M.O. of "Friday Recruitin' Does x" because hey - it's Friday? /s

Seriously though - The consistency with which he posts his content is one thing I look forward to - and here as well.

I might be a tad too dependent on it though when certain front page content doesn't show up and I make my own (see Guess the Score, Win Stuff for Charity, XY Edition)

Yeah, when I'm in-season, my time for opinion pieces and such dwindles to a minimum. I'm writing at 4:30 a.m. sometimes to get regular content ready for the day.

MGoBlog, UM Hoops, TTB, MnB, MVictors, The Big House Report, Maize and Go Blue, M Go Girl (granted, many of these are more sporadic than others)

I also follow Off Tackle Empire and lurk on a bunch of non-UM blogs

Gone, but not forgotten:

iBlogForCookies, MZone, Autumn Thunder, Ronald Bellamy's Underachieving All-Stars, Varsity Blue, When Carcajous Attack, Michigan Sports Center, and others I've forgotten

I used to read a lot of James Light Football before it went private.

Also, Blitzology is a good read, though it's not consistently active.

The quality sucks, but I check MLive a lot too in addition to your list because they tend to get stuff out the fastest. Usually if there's a tidbit from a presser or something, you see it there first.

I also get a lot of quick-hit presser information and a few other tidbits from MLive. They get a bad rap for the comments section - they should get a bad rap for those comments really - but for some quotes and other summary information they tend to be a good source for those.

Yeah, as far as beat writers go, Baumgardner is actually pretty good too. His football knowledge is certainly one of the best. I like his grading feature Monday mornings as a preview and sanity check to the UFR and Brian's game column.

As far as audio goes: MGoBlog podcasts, Shutdown Fullcast, The Solid Verbal, and Podcast Ain't Played Nobody. Usually enough content there to last the full week!

I pretty much bounce between MGoBlog and The Wolverine (Rivals) all day. I check SBNation, particularly early and late in the week, EDSBS is occasionally funny (although ALL CAPS doesn't make something funny). The rest of my info is usually from podcasts - MGoRadio/MGoBlog, The Wolverine podcasts, Player and Fan (Chris Howard and some dude), Shutdown Fullcast, The Audible (Mandel and Feldman - good one), and Football Four (USA Today - sometimes pretty good). I sprinkle in some WTKA too, particularly with John U is on Fridays.

The Solid Verbal is incredible. Recently they mentioned that they started the podcast by thinking about the type of college football podcast they would want to listen to, and that's exactly it. Smart but not overly technical, funny but not joke-focused.

I also am a fan of MLive's Wolverine Beat, but I think a lot of people around here are not as big of fans. I think that because they are both outsiders to Michigan fandom they offer a perspective we don't often hear. This is obviously a unique situation, but this summer when I went full weeks without internet access, being able to download TWB to catch up on news was really useful.

The Ringer

Touch the Banner

Genuinely Sarcastic (cause on those rare, rare occasions when the other Brian writes it's amazing)

Agree with others that MaizenBrew has really taken a turn for the worse.  That was the first blog read with regularity before I found this place.  I go back every once in a while and have been pretty disapointed in the content.

In addition to MGoBlog and TTB, I read the GBMWolverine Forum. The Mods can be a little crotchety and some of the regulars are annoying, but it's content. I don't tend to read anything else on that site.

GBMWolverine Forum

Also, during the Harbaugh - It's Happening era, there was this rumor that Brian referred to as coming from the "Edge of the Internet." I tracked it down to this place:

Board #5

It looks to be a closed group. I couldn't figure out how to create an account so I could post but I'm special that way (the "short bus" kind of Special),

In order to keep myself from spending too much time on sports, I have the CBS sports app, which I tend to prefer over any of the other ones, and mgoblog. And that's it. Of course, in season, I end up just spending a ridiculous amount of time on this site so it doesn't necessarily keep all of my priorities straight but hey, I try to adult at least.

Besides mgoblog, I read scattered articles other places, Punt, Pass & Pork @SI, Forde Yard Dash @Yahoo, and I at least click on everything Mandel does at @foxsports. I also go to MLive, and Espn's B1G blog daily and have the bleacher app.

Usually my Michigan stuff comes from here and MLIve, and get my national stuff elsewhere

I love listening to college football podcasts becuase I can still get all my work done. My favorites are the Solid Verbal, Podcast Ain't Played Nobody, and the Shutdown Fullcast. It's always fun to get the entire landscape of the sport and know what's generally going on.

MGoBlog,
Whatever pops up in my Apple News' Michigan Football page,
A little TTB,
The 247 profiles and CB pages.
It used to be a lot of 247, but then Steve joined and he eliminated posting unless you payed for premium and he also took down all the free pinned boards where members would post their own information.

MGOBLOG ...no need to go anywhere else because anything worthwhile gets posted (usually) multiple times and immediately.

Maize and Brew is just watered down at this point and I stopped following Drew Hallett on Twitter because he seems to just regurgitate info from others.

I have a droid currently, so I use Podkicker during my commute. Of the UM content I can find on the search function, the four podcasts I have kind of settled on are (in order of my own anticipation):

1. MGoPodcast  (honestly, the best; most complete analysis, funniest, etc.)

2. The Wolverine Beat  (the MLive guys)

3. The Wolverine Podcast  (Balas and Borton from the Wolverine Magazine, includes their radio appearances on the Huge Show)

4. The Michigan Man Podcast (good guests, typically including the opposing team's play-by-play announcer (!) and I actually like the UM band and Bob Ufer intros, though for some I can see how they might get a bit repetetive. Fitzpatrick has one of the best radio voices around, FWIW.)
