Webber, Rudy T Don't Make Basketball Hall of Fame

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

The Basketball Hall of Fame announced its 2017 class today, and although they were both finalists, Chris Webber and Rudy Tomjanovich didn't make it. Among the people who did were Tracy McGrady, Rebecca Lobo and Bill Self.

An article yesterday on NBA.com said that both Webber and Rudy T had "good" chances of making it.

Putting McGrady in ahead of Webber is a bit of a head-scratcher. They have very similar NBA career numbers, but Webber averaged slighly more points and a whole lot more rebounds. And ... well, despite certain issues, Webber was an All-American and had a memorable college career, whereas McGrady had none.

And Rudy T should definitely make it at some point. Before getting slugged in the face, he was a pretty average NBA player, but he was a superstar college player and won two NBA titles as a coach. I'm guessing they're looking at him mostly as a coach, but his overall contributions to the game are far superior to others who are in the Hall. Put him the hell in!

a hall of famer when they couldn't even lead a team out of the first round of the playoffs!?* Cwebb got screwed. So did Rudy T. *When he was the most prominent player on the team. I realize he finally made out as a role player with the Spurs.

Grant Hill never played (sad...they really could have been special together) with him due to injuiries.  Yao pretty much the same thing.  You could say AIr Canada I guess, but McGrady was still very young when he was in Toronto.

Give T-Mac Peja Stojakovic, Vlade, Brad Miller, Mike Bibby, Bobby Jackson and then let's talk.  C-Webb had game but T-Mac's playoff record shouldn't count against him.

Rudy T got screwed.  But Webber got what he deserves.  How can someone whose college stats have been invalidated and who was an OK pro but nothing special be considered for the Hall of Fame anyway?

AFAIC, until Webber issues an apology and a mea culpa, he is a ghost and should stay that way.

Webber was not an "OK pro".  In addition to being a five-time all star and a 20-10-5 guarantee for a while, he was the best player on some loaded Kings teams, one of which got robbed of a Finals appearance (and likely title) by some Kobe love from the officials.  Stop it

Rudy Tomjanovich. What more can a man do to deserve induction? And Bill Self gets in? For consistently doing less with more than any other coach ever??!

T-Mac and Webber are both borderline cases, but McGrady's peak as a pro was higher and a bit longer, which explains McGrady making more all-star and all-league teams. As far as Webber's college career goes, I think it's extra stupid, but officially, his college career never happened. I'm not sure either guy would have been a finalist in a stronger year.

well above "average"- 17 pts, 8 rebounds and 2 assists per game over 11 seasons. He was an excellent college player and a very good coach winning 2 NBA titles. His body of work is deserving IMO.

I'm not surprised T-Mac got in over CWebb, he seems like the more popular player, not neccessarily the better one. Hopefully he gets in next year.

Then I think you have to put cwebb and Tim hardaway in. To me both were better players for longer than McGrady. Agree about Self, wth??? I'd put Beilein in over that guy.

I'm indifferent as to whether or not he gets in. What I still care about is that supposed book he said he was writing that would tell ALL about what actually happened with his being paid under the table and what Michigan knew. I know writing a book is difficult but surely it can't take this long to do. Besides, he probably has someone helping him write it just as he had someone help him write his papers when he was at Michigan.

Is NOT a head-scratcher.  More All Star games, All-NBA teams.  And for about two years before injuries set in, he was kinda LeBron.

Bill Self is definitely a head-scratcher.
