Common now.  WD may (or may not have) fucked up - we dont know yet.  Hell, for all we know at this point the damn thing may be 100% legit and WD's post was the final straw that broke the Regents back.

But even if it was 100% pure Columbian bullshit there's no reason to attack him.  Like you said yourself - he's a 19 year old kid and 19 year old's do really stupid things.  I know i did at least and I'll bet you did too.

The problem wasnt WD's post.  The problem was in how the alleged grown-ups responded to it.

No. I believe that this email was sent by Dave Brandon.

For people asking over and over for the email that was sent to cause his response: you're asking the wrong person. I don't have it.

Ace talked to the person that gave all this information to me. That's the last I heard.

I'll believe it's not real when I see the result of the FOIA. I do believe it's real, but the original email to him may not have been as respectful as my friend insisted it was. Still, you wouldn't expect someone in the position DB is to write something like that back. But he responds to these emails all the time.

Go to 11 warriors. A buckeye fan sent him a vote of confidence as a troll email and he responded to it. Thorin/MGoVideo unearthed another one on twitter.

For an unconfirmed post on a message board that some idiots in the media ran with 4 days ago? Okay.

This thing isn't even being talked about anymore. It was a one day thing and is dead.

Why Spicy posted this thread is beyond me. He posted another one the other day on it.

What planet do you live on? This has hit not one, but two mainstream media outlets in addition to the explosion here.

It is being talked about. Right now. Still.

I do think you'd be wise to stop passing it off onto other people. You are the one who brought it here, not as a comment, but its own thread. You had an intention when you created that thread, just own it. Whether it's real or not is irrelevent to this conversation, just take some responsibility for what you started. I don't think you made it up, really I don't. I do have serious doubts about its authenticity though.

Also, you really should stop upvoting your own comments.

edit: I do think the mainstream media was stupid as all get-out for taking and running with this.

the mods would ban you, even if you were duped.  I don't think anyone on this board would think you were being malicious.  You never come across that way at all.

FWIW, I would be sad too, if that happend.

But you don't owe anyone shit. People make mistakes, big fucking deal. This is an anonymous message board designed for Michigan fans. You have proven yourself to be every bit the Michigan superfan; do not walk away with your tail between your legs. I for one appreciate all the information you contribute and those who don't can choose to avoid your posts if they please. No one is making them read anything you write so don't worry about them.

And for those who are giving this kid shit, get a fucking life. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they got everything right at the age of 19...

anyone?

Well, I'm calling bullshit on this long-winded stance.  There's no way you're taking this thing that happened on an internet message board that seriously -- your post has to be sarcasm, right?  Please answer "yes."  If not, maybe take a walk and cool off a bit.

WD, for your sake I hope this is legit (not assuming any malice on your part, just maybe that there is more to this than you know). If not, the media's need to turn everything into a witch hunt just swallowed you alive.

I disagree with everyone saying that the email should not be reported. It's more information, and information is good. I would rather reporters write about things and let me, the reader, decide whether to believe it. Caveat: the reporter does need to properly contextualize the information so I know how much to believe. I'm not sure the reporter does in this case. Then again, it's from the yardbarker network, which is about as much information as I need to know whether to believe it.

Let me contextualize it:  19 year old Michigan fan who never got to experience any of Michigan's glory years and is tired of losing, posts an alleged rude email response to a fan by the unpopular Michgian AD to make him look even worse than he already does.  He may or may not know just how authentic the email is.  He does this on a blog message board.

Oh, its gotta be true.  The media even thinks so.

Where is the original thread on this? I remember reading something about this and it didn't seem to jive with reality. I also think I missed Brian posting it on the main page too.

Not a lawyer, but I can't see why WD would be in trouble. It's message board fodder. Shouldn't the "reporters" running with this story be in the proverbial fecal laced creek without the necessary means for propulsion? Also if this thing turns out to be true there are going to be a lot of you eating the sediment of aforementioned creek. Let's see how it plays out before we start the flogging.

I beleive in order for there to be a Libel lawsuit, the plaintiff would have to prove damages.

Even if you want to ignore that the actual target of the libel suit would probably be ESPN or MSN for running with the story, (and because they actually have deep pockets), if Brandon didn't send the email, he can simply say "I didn't send the email".  At which point, how has he been damaged?  Clearly he won't lose his job over an email that he didn't send, and people will pretty much forget the entire incident.

I obviously am not a a lawyer.  But if made up,  this seems to only rise to "douchy internet message board post" level, not libel.

If I remember correctly, Southwest Airlines's CEO sent a similar response to a woman complaining about the 'inappropriateness' of jokes during safety instructions, etc. She threatened to never fly Southwest again and the CEO supposedly responded with, "We'll miss you" - a more polite way of saying, "Go find another team to root for."

I'm really curious to see what the original e-mail said that would prompt DB to go this route but it wouldn't surprise me if it was an ultimatum of some sort in which case, rude or not, I'm okay with the response.

FWIW, Dave Brandon is a public official, making any libel claim much harder to prove. The courts generally require famous people or public officials to have somewhat thicker skins since they are offering themselves into the public eye. I would be utterly shocked if DB sued anybody over this. Plus, truth is the ultimate defense if push came to shove.

That being said, I've always been skeptical of the veracity of this email for the reasons everybody already covered. Time will tell though.

God, I miss the days when we actually talked football. Not saying this thread is totally irrelevant. I'm just saying I miss the days when a thread like this was totally irrelevant. Sigh.

First off, I hate Brandon with a passion. And I don't need an "e-mail response" to accurately characterize what kind of an out-of-touch, douchebag he is.

I'm very socially-oriented, very good at reading people, and I can tell immediately from his body language, tone, and general ass-hatery what kind of dirtbag he is. To say nothing of all 4+ year hyper-corporate seige laid on the atheletic department brought to us by Chobani. The guy is a very special kind of tool.

With that said, it's like, a complete microcosm of "what the internet is" and "how irresponsibly, inaccurately, and willfully-distructive/we're-still-just-monkey's-with-glitzy-tools" we are that NEARLY EVERYONE ignores the CONTEXT of what this response is to.

His response could just be a witty reply to an insane fan's (god's knows they exist) indecipherable e-mail rant that she went on.

But, it could have been a very well-thought, balanced original message to Dave Brandon, we don't know.

And that's the point: NOBODY knows.

But:

EVERYBODY has an "opinion" about it.

An "opinion" about something that may not even exist.

And yes, it DOES MATTER that you withhold judgment, because you DO NOT KNOW what the context is.

In no way do I want to live in a world where everyone thinks "their opinion", because it most certainly DOES NOT.

Of course, I hate DB. And I mean, hate, like really hate him and his CEO-types.

But I can't just BELIEVE and CRIMINALIZE him for this, just because it further proves my own point", biases, and hatred.

Due process is a great thing.

For the record, I HOPE it was him, becuase it is incredibly damning, I would love nothing more than to see him get run out of town. But, I cannot in good conscience just ASSUME it is his actual reply, that's too selfish of me, just "see what I want to see" in it. And the fact that our nations "journalists" and "news sources" are actually reporting this, is only a mindfvck of just how stupid our current situation really is (internet and all). Oh lord we have the tools. But we erecting a NEW TOWER OF BABEL.

We're headed for the dark ages, real soon, or, better but, the BRIGHT AGES, the BLINDINGLY BRIGHT AGES..../rant

my apologies. forgiveness please.
