Was Bo Wrong or Right?

"I remember one time we were scouting a high school player here in Michigan, but I couldn't take my eyes off of his head coach.  The guy was just standing there on the sidelines , his arms folded, with no clipboard, no headset.  Nothing! And he'd always stand twenty yards away from everyone else. If their opponents had the ball down by his 10-yard line -which seemed to happen a lot-he'd be standing out by the 50. His poor assistants-and why they worked for this guy is a mystery to me-had to keep running back and forth to him just to let him know what they were doing.

I couldn't believe it! Honestly, what the hell is that? Why are they paying that guy? Why does he even show up for the games?  Needless to say, his team was awful-undisciplined, unfocused, uninspired.  But what would you expect, with no leader?"

______

I say he was right and this is why our current Michigan team is what they are and what they will continue to be until a leader is brought to give direction to a seemingly lost program.

He has the Cowboys' defense humming along pretty well.  When he was the Lions' coach, they were a complete dumpster fire being run by WCF Sr. and Matt Millen.  I'm not saying Miranelli wasn't a complete failure as a HC here, but I think on the defensive side of the ball, Miranelli >>> Hoke.

I see Hoke standing next to his coordinators. On offense he stands near Nussmeier, and on defense he is standing near Mattison. Remember when Hoke and Mattison had their little argument on the sideline? He was right by him to tell him to get the blank off the field. It's not an accurate comparison . Yes, Hoke doesn't wear a headset, but no, he isn't just standing at the fifty yard line . Whatever unit is on the field he is usually by his coordinator.

Brady Hoke does not possess the wherewithal to utilize said Headset (w/mic) in a manner that is part & parcel de rigueur for a fully functioning Head coach at a Major college program. He is beyond his depth and in 4 years has not aspired to rise to the occasion afforded to him.

Hoke matches the description Bo provides, but I do feel pretty strongly coaches should be engaged in the game these days via headsets.  The days of Tom Landry style coaching has long been over.

Just saying, the top coaches in the B1G right now are Urban, Dantonio, and Jerry Kill(!).  They all manage just fine to coach their players up on the sidelines as well as being in constant communication with his coordinators about strategies and play calls.  Why, exactly, can Hoke not do the same?

He says he doesn't wear a headset so he can do one half of what those three and several others in the conference do.  And by the looks of the product on the field since that Sugar Bowl win, he has done a pretty poor job at that one half.

Lombardi ran the Packers.  He ran them.  He brought in the talent. He managed the talent, and he coached up the talent.  He was the head coach and the general manager of the Packers.  He drew up the plays.  He called the plays.  These are thigs with exception to bringing in the talent Hoke has not done.

Do you people honestly believe that all of the team's problems stem from Hoke not wearing a headset most of the time during games? It looks like to me that the headset thing is the closest straw you could grab, and you are running with it.

Headsets do not mean success on the field. as this guy can tell you....

Are you really going to compare a coach who is taking the brunt of scholarship reductions, and STILL almost beat Michigan in A2, as a point for why wearing a head set means nothing?

Sure bro, whatever you say.  Nevermind the fact that Hoke and Brandon say he doesn't wear one so he can coach these kids up on the sidelines.  Yeah, that sure looks like the product of a coached up team on the field the last two or so years.

Look man. Why don't all you Brian puppets just do a study if how many more games a coach wins when wearing a headset for more than 50% of the game. Til then just stop. our lack of wins has almost nothing, make that absolutely nothing, to do with inability to communicate with the coach during game day.

See I would love to do such study in the modern age of football except one thing:

There is no sample size large enough with exception of Hoke to even do a significant study with.

Therefore, I will go out on a limb and say that it should be advantageous in some fucking way regardless of win or loss. Why thumb your nose at modern innovation? Why Why Why? Just because its not comfortable? Well shit I doubt Urbz, Mullen, Dantonio etc think it's comfy either but they suck it up because it must be AT LEAST somewhat necessary don't you think??

Now is it the SOLE reason for W and L? NO... but can it hurt? I sure as hell bet it does not... It is a symptom of this "old school" disfunction that this program is full of.

I can't believe we as a fan base are even debating this issue. That is how god damn annoying shit with Michigan is nowadays.

From lack of injury disclosure, unwarranted media contempt, no headset, to w/l just being a statistic ... it just depresses me...

I'm saying that the program's troubles are larger than who does, and who doesn't wear a headset. If you think Hoke wearing a headset mean's that the team could have been anywhere other than where they are at this point in the season then you are delirious.

His not wearing a headset is a symptom not a cause of the problem. The founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has a quote. The company is stubborn on the vision but flexible on the details. Hoke has a stubborn vision that to be successful we need to win the Big Ten Championship. That's very good. His handling and understanding of the details at the program level? Using my best Borat voice, not so much. Anyway, I'm still rooting for this team but for the players who despite their dislike of our fan base is one of the man my reasons I watch this program even though there are no other programs who have more resources and do far less than should be anticipated.

OSU is up early on Rutgers 14-0. Let's see they are starting 16 freshmen and breaking in 4 OL and a new QB. That's what strong coaching gets you. Rutgers is doing crap in this game.

People use cellphones, computers, and iPads. And yes, coaches who want to know what the fuck is going on at all times during a game wear a headphone. It doesn't guarantee victories, but it sure as hell guarantees a coach being engaged in all facets of HIS team at all times. Those hands-free sets still allow for continuous clapping, even after shitty plays.

The count down to kick off videos showed us that Hoke does coach and we know the players love him.  The game day cheerleader tag seems to fit but it's about wins and losses.  It's the only reason he needs to go.

With the talent we have recruited we should never lose to Rutgers or Minnesota at home.  We should not be such underdogs to Michigan state.  We should not get blown out by Utah at home. We were confident about beating ND, who had starters suspended and  got shut out. Why are we losing?  I don't know but we need a new head coach.

I love Michigan Football and hate the bye week.  I want to watch Michigan play today.  More than that I want a darn good football team..

what makes Minnesota a "really good" team?

Minnesota 42 East Illinois 20

Minnesota 35 Middle Tennessee 24

Minnesota 7 TCU 30

Minnesota 24 San Jose St. 7

Minnesota 30 Michigan 14

Minnesota 24 Northwestern 17

Minnesota 39 Purdue 38

Winning is obviously better than losing, but there is nothing in their resume that makes me think they are really good.

How many times do we need threads telling us to be OUTRAGED at Hoke?

The guy's going to be fired barring a miracle turnaround.  We don't need hourly reminders of how he's screwing up.
