The Untold Quarantine Story - How Bad Does Your Hair Look?

Submitted by xtramelanin on April 22nd, 2020 at 9:35 PM

Mates,

This might be one more for the males than the females, but hey maybe not.  The shut-down included barber shops and salons.  For some of us guys that's no big deal, either you're bald or you've let you flowing locks grow, so who cares. But for most of us there is some informal time period or hair length that you generally follow and you are at or past that normal limit.

For you ladies, and I guess some guys, there is the age-old question, 'does she or doesn't she?'  [color her hair, you perverts].  Are you doing the in-home voodoo with whatever might be close?  Have you let it go completely to seed?

So the questions today are these:

1.  Are you in need, maybe even desperately, of a trip to the barber or stylist?

2.  What have you done, if anything, in the interim as your flowing locks have continued unabated?

Is this what happened when you tried to cut your own hair:

Oh yeah, if you have clear skies you might take a look at the meteor shower but last night's shower was 'meh' at best.  Maybe better tonight.

Be safe,

I need a haircut in the worst way.  I think a bird could build a nest in it at this point.

Because of horrible haircut timing (as in, due maybe a couple of days after lockdown) I wound up doing the same after a week. I recall posting about it in some other thread. I used a beard trimmer (!) and went down to 3 mm. It looked fine for about three weeks. I'm close to the point where another round would make sense.

It's finally past that awkward not quite long enough stage and, if I'm being honest and a tad vain, it looks pretty good long. I may just keep growing it and keep it long.

I've used a pair of Wahl clippers on me and my boys. My wife has given our daughter the classic Asian bowl cut. Funny that our kids are getting the haircuts we each had growing up by our own parents because each of our families didn't have money to spend on stuff like that.

i could never calculate the amount of money and, more importantly, time we've saved by cutting the boys' hair.  we live out of town a ways and have a lot of activity here, so yeah, it literally would not have otherwise been done.   and fwiw, we are more sophisticated than a 'bowl cut'.   mrs XM trimmed mine last night and while it might not be the same as a barber, nobody would know the difference but me.  and to be candid, its not like she had much to work with.

I cut my three boys hair for first time last week.  Only had my beard clippers. I think they were fairly decent.  Not buzz cuts.  I kept top longer and layered it down.  Long guard on bottom back and sides to start, and then pulled hair into fingers and trimmed the long hair out.  Trying to replicate what I see the pros do.

Might save me $45 every two months. So $300 a year with probably getting hair cut by the pros for family pics

I've been cutting my own hair since high school (I'm 28 now). Originally I just buzzed it, but I've gotten to the point now that I can fade it a bit. Hardest part is making sure it's even on the back of my head. The quarantine has also let me try to grow out my beard and mustache, too.

My hair (what's left of it) is reverting back to its 1970's look.  I actually bought one of those $14.95 hair cutting kits for my wife to use on me if things get bad enough.  Hopefully it won't trigger nightmares from the old days when my dad cut my hair.

2 is tight!  My wife has been doing it for years.  2 or 3 on the sides and scissors on the top.  Ok that's what I did when I had hair, now it's 2 on the sides and 3 on top :(

I like saving the money and not waiting in line.  With that said it's so long now that it woke me up last night.  Time to get a trim on the porch.

Mine still looks halfway decent. The woman who normally cuts my hair does a great job of making the cut last a long time—she’s really good. If expensive.

Having said that, in another 2-3 weeks I’m going to have to decide if I want to give myself a buzz cut or let it grow long.

Thankfully, my wife is pretty good at cutting hair. She’s not a professional or anything, but she does a solid job. My son and I look great thanks to her!

I'm just rolling with it. I was blessed with a pretty thick head of hair that doesn't need a lot of maintenance when it grows out, so whatever unruliness is present I can usually stymie with a little hair paste.

Longest my hair has been since high school, 10+ years ago.

If you've seen Peaky Blinders, I have a version of the Shelby brothers' haircut. Mrs. Hatter did a pretty good job with the Wahl.

I'm not entirely thrilled with the dye job I let her do though. Strawberry blonde was not the color I was looking for.

I have dreadlocks, and they're in dire need of a retwist ( in my opinion). I like for mine to look crisp and clean with not too much growth at the roots.

I redo them myself, but between me being off work, and not being motivated to do them because it can be tedious and time consuming at times, I've been putting it off.

I haven’t cut my hair since I got married (3 years ago). Reason being, I always had short hair, but I had a student with leukemia who had similar hair color to me and said they wished they could have my hair. The plan has always been to donate it to a local company that doesn’t charge the clients.

So the hair is looking the same. Now the beard...that won’t be shaved until I have to go back into the office (which will be August)
