Michigan and the winged helmet was number 5.
For anyone that can't view
5. Michigan
4. USC
3. Alabama
2. Penn State
1. Notre Dame
Obviously I disagree but I am biased.

BUT WHERE ARE MARYLAND AND OREGON AND UNIFORMZZZ?!
November 20th, 2013 at 7:10 PM ^
To be absolutely fair, if there was a list of the top five college football uniforms which make strange attempts to be avant garde, these two schools might very well be in competition to be on that list.
November 20th, 2013 at 5:55 PM ^
Yes, but do they have iconic uniformz that have the WOW factor?
They would have been somewhat better if they had wore Maize pants.

Both Bama and PSU just have a generic color combined with plain white and a totally bland helmet.
Texas (unique color, simple iconic helmet logo) and OSU (two actual colors, unique touch with Buckeye stickers) have a much more impressive look AFAIC.

Did you know that Helen Keller had a circus in her backyard?
...
Neither did she.
November 20th, 2013 at 6:19 PM ^
Where's Texas? I'd put them in there before USC. I also like Florida State. Not a bad list in terms of traditional looks, but I'm not a fan of Penn State or Alabama's unis personally.
November 20th, 2013 at 6:31 PM ^
Agree with the others 4
If I had to rank in my biased opinion
Michigan
USC
Penn state
ND
November 20th, 2013 at 6:34 PM ^
1. Michigan
2. Notre Dame
3. Alabama
4. USC
5. Texas

Texas is a good call. I think Alabama is meh.
1. Michigan
2. Sourthern Cal
3. Texas
4. Notre Dame
5. Florida State

The Michigan and Notre Dame uniforms define college football, but I also really like the Clemson, LSU, and Auburn uniforms.

November 20th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
Agreed.
You can't have it both ways. ND wants to be one of the traditional icons of CFB, yet they want to be a shiny object to teenagers too.
So you get what they wear now: Christmas tree ornaments on their heads and moldy gold pants that don't match each other.
Their old uni was worth being on this list. The new uni is just Maryland-light.

I am with you and I don't know why.

The paw prints are cool. They are also all over the city and the campus streets.
November 20th, 2013 at 6:58 PM ^
Other notables:
Texas, Florida State, UCLA, Oklahoma
November 20th, 2013 at 9:17 PM ^
Nebraska, Georgia, and LSU are noteworthy as well. They are all iconic traditional CFB unis.
November 21st, 2013 at 12:22 PM ^
I like that LSU wears white at home. They basically have one uniform.
November 20th, 2013 at 6:58 PM ^
November 20th, 2013 at 7:49 PM ^
And because they haven't changed their uniforms in a million years and it's about iconic looks not best looks.
November 20th, 2013 at 8:03 PM ^
I agree with your sentiment. As long as Michigan, ND, Penn State and Bama are on the list I am good with it. Also love UCLA's (but not the midnight ones they wore last week), USC's, Ohio's, and Iowa's (if they would just lose the white shoes).
November 20th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
Army and Navy have not changed much, and they're not on the list. There's a bit of a frontrunner thing going on with these lists.
November 20th, 2013 at 10:20 PM ^
Nooooooo. Army and Navy have changed a lot! Army and Navy just got new uniforms two years ago. And they wear Pro-COmbats every year. They are both really uniformz.

November 20th, 2013 at 7:17 PM ^
I'm sorta "meh" about lists like this. It's not like the uniforms have gotten any more iconic since the last time they did this list a few months ago.
November 20th, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
Which is why they switched the order of the teams.
A few years ago, we were at the top of all these lists. But that gets boring. How many times can you put out the same list with Michigan at the top? So they put out the same list, this time with Alabama at the top.

I'd sub Texas in for USC. USC loks better, but they change unis enough to be less iconic. Texas really hasn't. All of these teams have an argument for No. 1.

November 21st, 2013 at 12:22 AM ^
UCLA's unis are ass.
November 20th, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
It's all about the helmets. If Michigan had a block M on the helmet, it would be just another uni.
Here's an interesting thought: What are the iconic unis in CFB without considering the helmet? Are there any at all? Maybe the distinctive colors of UCLA, UNC, or Texas. That might be about it.
November 20th, 2013 at 10:22 PM ^
UCLA loops is all I can think of. But Adidas ruined those hard.
November 20th, 2013 at 10:31 PM ^
Texas, USC, FSU, UCLA. I have an irrational love of Michigan pants because they have the M on them, but I don't know if that's awesome because it's awesome or awesome because it's Michigan and anything would be great. That said, I think we're in the top five on colors alone.
Other than that, maybe Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame and OSU.
November 20th, 2013 at 10:59 PM ^
Watching last weekend's Tiebreaker and remembering how great our unis loooked with the black shoes and white socks makes me wish for UM to resurrect this traditional, classic look. Like most everyone on the blog, I will always maintain that UM Football has the best uniforms on the planet regardless of sport, but I'm not a big fan of the blue socks/black shoes. Alabama, PSU and USC still sport the white socks which fully preserves all components of their traditional uniform and distinquishes them from everyone else.

this should be a top 10 because it's hard to narrow it down... too many schools in close proximity to each other
November 21st, 2013 at 11:00 AM ^
For me, "Iconic" means that when you see that team on TV, you know immediately who it is without seeing the team listed or the announcers saying who it is.
I can't really put it in order, but here are the top schools IMO:
Michigan
Ohio State
UCLA
Texas
Penn State
LSU
I've confused Bama and Oklahoma at a glance before. Same for Florida and Boise. When you see players in a burnt orange jersey, winged helmet, purple and gold, or a helmet covered in Buckeye leaves, you know what school that is instantly.
