TomVH: Dallas Crawford Update
I'm sure everyone has seen the news article with Dallas Crawford saying he might open up his recruitment. If not, here it is. I spoke to Crawford's coach today about the situation, and here's what he had to say.
Dallas may take another visit to another school, but that's it. He asked me what I thought about everything, and I told him I think Michigan is an outstanding institution to play at either way. He's said in the past that he'd go there either way.
There have been some schools, including USC, that have been trying to contact Dallas. He hasn't said if he will take another visit, and if he does which school will get that visit. It sounds like he's just making sure he has something to fall back on just in case though.
Dallas hasn't said anything about Miami and the new staff. He was shocked when he went there and they only had 27,000 fans in the stands, then you go to the Big House and it's 112,000. You should go somewhere where the people like the team. Sometimes when new coaches come in they'll let the new guys recruit their own kids, and they don't acknowledge the old staff's recruits. I just want to make sure he has somewhere to go just in case.
I've been told by others that Dallas would most likely end up at Michigan either way before. Obviously I have to throw in the fact that anything can happen, but I think this is pretty normal. He's making sure he has somewhere to go that he likes just in case he's left out in the cold.

I just don't know what to do.

Why? So that an 18 year old kid is forced to go play for a coach they may or may not like in a system that may or may not fit their skillset? If there was an early signing period (technically there is one) there would have to be exemptions in the event of a coaching change which really would do nothing for our situation.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:26 PM ^
I'd like to see how the people whining in the other thread respond to this news.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
I for one would be surprised as hell if the coach, whoever that may be, would leave a top prospect like Dallas "out in the cold." We need more talent on that side of the ball regardless.
(That bowl game can't get here fast enough).
December 16th, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
he didn't recruit Dallas. Go Blue kick some MSU ____ in the bowl and lets see where RR takes us next year.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:03 AM ^
i think the word you're looking for is ass.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
Thanks Tom, I really appreciate your take on this with the updated information! Everyone, coaches included, want to be in a place where they are loved and appreciated...why not expect the same from a recruit. thanks again!

Seriously. Was he exaggerating when he said this or r there really only that few there? Hard to believe theyre only getting 27K.

The Orange you see isn't people wearing Miami shirts.
It's empty seats.

Maybe its the Guinness World Records people who are doing the counting...
December 16th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
is uncomfortable, and dangerous for the skin. I'm sure more fans would turn out if they could count on clouds, some cooling winds, perhaps even with some snow to cool the skin and filter the harsh rays.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
That is sad. The "U" has fallen like a rock.
December 16th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
Miami has never consistently drawn large crowds - even when they were dominant
December 16th, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
Still, 27,000 is low even for them.
December 17th, 2010 at 8:23 AM ^
It does not help when your stadium is 30 minutes from your campus.

His head coach likes Michigan, and the current coaching staff too, which helps. He always has good things to say about Michigan.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
Now does he say those good things to watkins?
any chance left with him? or his he a hard commit?

I think we often forget how big of a decision this is for these kids. IMO, it is very smart to have a back up plan because you just never know what could happen. That said, you won't find a place that loves their sports teams more than Michigan. Go Blue, Dallas!

... but I've sort of resigned myself to this:
1) If RichRod stays, we keep our recruits
2) If RichRod is asked to leave, we have more serious things with which to be concerned than this year's recruiting class.
So, at this point, any recruiting news to me is sort of dulled by the uncertainty around the coaching situation.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
Yep. I would say we should all relax on the recruiting news for another month or so, but we all know thats not gonna happen.
Enjoy the drama (I know I will).

great. glad we've cleared that up.

I can worry a little less now
December 16th, 2010 at 6:41 PM ^
If USC wants him, we'd do real well to keep him. They get the A-listers only. Kiffin isn't all that well thought of by most people, but he is a hoss recruiter. He came in and griped about the talent Carroll left because it wasn't like 05-08 when they set a record for planting guys drafted to the NFL.
Them wanting Dallas tells me something.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:48 PM ^
Michigan recruits don't have to be Kiffin approved to be good recruits.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:40 PM ^
if USC is offering him one of the 4.3 scholarships they're allowed to give out this year.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:42 PM ^
I gain a sense of peace, calmness and better view of the world.
<br>Thanks for posting again!
December 16th, 2010 at 6:47 PM ^
Its good for him to have a back up plan, don't see any reason to panic from that. There are others doing the same thing
December 16th, 2010 at 7:12 PM ^
At some point, these kids would be nuts not to have a plan in case Harbaugh comes in and isn't interested in keeping them. I'd tell my kid to do the same thing.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
No offense to you but why do you have so much interest what happens on the Michigan boards? I certainly don't go to Notre Dame blogs to follow Irish football. Why does Mgoblog appeal to you?
/not trying to be a jerk
December 16th, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
Cant answer for why he/she is interested in our board but I can tell you the feeling is mutual. Irish wasnt posting for a while and there were quite a few "Where is Irish" posts on the board.
December 17th, 2010 at 7:58 AM ^
MGoBlog has a signal-to-noise ratio that blows away most other college football forums. It is actually possible for Irish (the individual, not the fan base) to post here and not have the discussion go to shit in three seconds. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt there is a ND blog you could go to and talk about Michigan or ND football without being immediately shat upon.
I also gather (from reading him over the past two seasons) that Irish roots for Michigan when they're not playing ND. I mean, I don't think I could go on an Ohio State blog, because I can't say the same about them. I'm not sure Irish could go on a USC blog -- the animosity there is pretty intense, at least judging from my father, a USC grad -- the only team he hates more than ND is Stanford.

Great information as usual.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:05 PM ^
i assume, and it appears other do as well, but can you please confirm that USC = southern cal, not south carolina?
December 16th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
Yes, Southern Cal.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:20 PM ^
does TomVH only have 19784 points?
Well done, sir, as always.

Where TomVH has his MgoPoints listed, it should just say INFINITY.

If Brain can do million-point negbombs, I would be willing to bet he can do million-point posbombs. I nominate Tom VH for the first million-point posbomb.
December 16th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
I knew Brain was powerful, but I didn't know he was behind the million point neg-bombs!
