Sounds like one of those Manning Bros. "work when I feel like it" deals. Which seems like the right kind of deal.
Absolutely! The guy has earned just that kind of deal - wherever and whenever he likes.
Just had to go work for Rupert fucking Murdoch.
Without getting into the specifics of the politics, based on his previous activities I'm not sure Brady has the same concerns about this than you might, and for a time both Brady and Murdoch lived in the same building.
$37 million per year to analyze a football game? I’d work for just about anyone.
Same here. Except for Hitler, cuz fuck that guy. And nazis in general. Fuck them too. And don't get me started on Illinois nazis. I hate Illinois nazis.
Especially Illinois Nazis
Nazis hate themselves.
And, this dipstick. He is almost more of a Nazi than Hitler.
Until we poach him as our QB coach :)
Dream on. I am sure Tom would leave a 20 million dollar per year Fox gig with several months off per year for a 2 million per year, year round college assistant coach position that would require him to move to Michigan
You missed the joke. Badly. I mean, so badly that your miss is not even funny and gets you a downvote.
We'll have to pay him... ONE HUNDRED TRILLION DOLLARS!
Great for him. Great for us. I can't wait to hear him analyze a game in real time. I wish it was happening tomorrow. Smart move by Fox. Every wins except for the underperforming players that TB12 will pick apart during a given telecast.
Who says he will be any good? Has he done any broadcast work as of yet?
I'd love to say he'll be great because he's Tom Brady, but it takes a completely different skill mix than playing the game.
Remember when he was on Saturday Night Live and bombed badly? Love Tom Brady as a football player, but unless he's been training for awhile in some hyperbolic chamber/studio he may have issues. I'm guessing TB12 has been training.
The idea of him training in a hyperbaric chamber/studio seems rather hyperbolic to me.
Who says? I do. We're not talking play-by-play. We're talking analyst. He's appeared on the radio for years with Jim Gray and already has a solid base. The bright lights do not scare him. He's coming off "Man in the Arena."
I doubt I'm alone in my opinion. Brady is the most competitive and successful QB in NFL history. He's the GOAT. By any objective standard, his depth of football knowledge is rivaled by almost no one. He has played with multiple generations of players and coaches. He knows the landscape like few others. He has seen every imaginable offensive and defensive scheme. He has played in every stadium. He knows what it's like to be injured. He knows what it's like to play in weather. He has seen it all. He has done it all.
I understand he might not have Tony Romo's charisma, but he had enough charisma to land (and keep) one of the most desirable women on the planet. That's probably a poor argument, but whatever.
I'm not saying it's 100%, but I'm saying it's +95%. Feel free to bet against Tom Brady; that has worked out historically poor for most people.
Step 1: Retire
Step 2: Un-retire
Step 3: Accept retirement job while still un-retired
But seriously - good for him and Fox. Fox has a massive hole on their lead team with the departure of Buck and Aikman. Brady will be a massive draw.
For a minute. While everyone sees how he does. I don't have a clue how he will fare, do others? This seems like a kind of tentative posting while they feel him out and he measures the extent of his own interest, no?
Like a Head Coach in waiting type of situation...
Step 4: Profit
Like MGlobules alluded to in an earlier reply, this is quite bold of Fox. Named as the top analyst on the top team doing all of the top games? Not bad for a guy that has never, ever, broadcast a game before in his entire life! I'm sure he'll be really good at it, he's good at everything he does. But jeez...
But also, how do you sign Tom fucking Brady if you're not putting him at the top? You can't make him the color guy on the #3 team, now can you?
Big fan of the GOAT but he always struck me as being kinda soft spoken to be an announcer. Tho there's no way you can be soft spoken in a huddle or locker room to become GOAT. Guess ya prob don't need to be a big jabberhead to be a good analyst. I'm sure Fox is thinking they have the next Romo. Doubt there's many, if any, people on the planet that know everything going on at a given moment on the field than TB. Griese took pretty well to it, and Gardner seems to have as well.
I sure would hate to be the current lead NFL analyst for Fox right now.
Well, FOX doesn't have one! They haven't announced who's going to be paired with Kevin Burkhardt yet. Which is kind of bizarre. I think it should be Greg Olsen - he's good - but that's just my opinion.
And, oh by the way, FOX has the Super Bowl this year.
I suppose it's possible that FOX's analyst for the Super Bowl is entirely dependent on whether the Bucs are in the Super Bowl. If the Bucs aren't there, Brady's on the call. There is precedent. Joe Theismann was in the ABC booth for Super Bowl 19, 3 weeks after the Redskins lost a playoff game to the Bears - the first time Theismann ever called an NFL game on air.
Theismann was the worst NFL color commentator ever (IMO), God forbid Brady is like him.
If Greg Olsen gets it, they'll have to call him "Interim Lead Analyst"
Merlin Olsen has my vote
Theismann wasn't that bad. And he, Maguire, and Patrick were a very good three man booth.
Honestly, a guy that should get a longer look is Aqib Talib, who is better than Olsen.
Theismann was absolutely that bad. I hated watching games he was calling. I can't think of anyone I disliked more.
Contract is for 10 years, $375 million.
lol
Fox is being smart. They locked TB in a deal now for when he retires in 10 years. Think how much they would have had to pay him when he actually starts this job in 2032!
the next interesting thing that tom brady says will be the first.
"I'm not squeezing the balls. That's not part of my process."
- Tom Brady
Come on... that's at least interesting.
you honestly made me laugh out loud, there. nicely done.
the "oh my god, this is so great, i get to hear tom brady talk" thing is just incomprehensible to me. i love him as a player. he's represented michigan extremely well. i love that i get to say that one of the greatest qbs of all time went to my school. but gang - it's okay to recognize that the dude isn't a great talker, or even (gasp) that he's kind of a weird dude. he's gonna be okay!
So much for spending time with the fam.
Eh, he'll be home most weeks Monday though Friday morning, depending on whether Fox is still broadcasting a handful of Thursday night games in the future.
Home.
But still working.
Production meetings.
Rehearsals.
Prep.
It's the same grind for the media but without getting hit.
The ambassador part of the job seems pretty simple....
Tom seems to have what it takes to be a great commentator. We've seen some great players not be able to make the transition, but I bet Tom will be just fine.
Can we bring him on recruiting trips and pay him?
