Today's Schedule of Games

Submitted by M-Dog on October 28th, 2023 at 9:52 AM

So, how was your week?  Um, yeah.  When I said that I wanted Michigan to be the center of the entire college football universe, I should have been more specific.

Anyhoo . . . there are games to be played.  It’s a bye week for Michigan, but there are still a number of games today that could have an impact on our season.

Here are some of today’s highlights:

At Noon on CBS: Indiana at #10 Penn State.  This is the first game where Michigan and Penn State share a common opponent.  So it will be interesting to see how PSU matches up against Indiana.  But, I’m not sure how much we will learn.  Drew Allar at home against Indiana won’t be the same as Drew Allar in Columbus against Ohio State.  Penn State will win big over Indiana (but not as big as Michigan won over Indiana).

Also at Noon on FOX: #6 Oklahoma at Kansas.  Oklahoma looked like crap against UCF.  But don’t be fooled.  That was coming off a bye week, after a big win against Texas.  They aren’t really as bad as they looked.  They may still be overrated (IMO) as a top 6 team, but they are plenty good enough to overcome Kansas, which they will do today.

In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: #1 Georgia at Florida.  They are no longer allowed to call it “The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”.  That name was banned in 2006 because it was deemed to be an endorsement of drinking too much alcohol among college students.  And it worked perfectly, no college student ever drank alcohol in excess ever again.  Just kidding, IT MADE NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER.  So, I’m unilaterally bringing the name back.  Bite me.  This year’s version of The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will see Florida put a scare in Georgia, but then Georgia will shift into that extra gear that we all know they’ve been hiding, and pull out the win.

Also at 3:30 PM on FOX: #8 Oregon at #13 Utah.  Oregon may be the most complete team in the nation, next to Michigan.  Utah is a perpetually underrated team, and that’s true again this year.  Utah should be able to go toe to toe with Oregon for a while.  But at the end of the day, they are still essentially Oregon-lite.  It won’t be enough, and Oregon will win to stay alive in the Pac12 race.

Also at 3:30 PM on ESPN: #20 Duke at #18 Louisville.  No, this isn’t a Final Four preview.  This is an honest-to-goodness American college football game preview.  Both teams are in the running to face off against (likely FSU) for the title in the now-divisionless ACC.  Duke QB Riley Leonard’s status still appears to be iffy, so I’ll go with Louisville in this one.

In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #21 Tennessee at Kentucky.  Another chance for Kentucky to announce on a national stage that they have finally arrived in the SEC.  AND WE REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME.  But alas, Tennessee wasn’t paying attention, and missed the announcement.  They will take care of Kentucky, just like we all knew they would.  Kentucky is the SEC team of the future.  And always will be.

At 7:30 PM on NBC: #3 Ohio State at Wisconsin.  I’m saying there’s a chance.  Wisconsin on the road at night is a tough place to play.  Ohio State is coming of a big, draining win over Penn State.  It’s the kind of game that has upset written all over it.  It will look that way for about 3 quarters . . . and then Marvin Harrison will emerge and that will be that.  Somebody double-cover that guy.  Thx.

Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:

At 10:30 PM on ESPN: #11 Oregon State at Arizona.  Arizona may be most Pac-12 After Dark Special-est of all the Pac12 teams.  You don’t ever want to find yourself facing an underdog Arizona, on the road, late at night, in a Pac-12 After Dark Special game.  Weird ju ju happens down there.  It will happen again, and Arizona will take out #11 Oregon State.

Couple of good ones to watch in the 3:30 slot, so I'll be watching!  What's my mortal lock of the day, you ask?

Georgia will beat Floriduh.  This is a ROCK SOLID LOCK!  UGA has been on cruise control, except for the Kentucky game - and we saw what happened there.  No Brock Bowers?  Doesn't matter, Oscar Delp will be good enough as a replacement.  The Gators (don't say gay!) are going to get manhandled in ways that are illegal in Floriduh.

I'll keep an eye on IU @ Penn State. Don't forget Maryland @ NW. This could be closer than expected. Will the Terps have their typical late season swoon?

Our next opponent, Purdue is at NE so I'll want to see how sharp (or not) the Boilermakers are.

Of course I want the Buckeye to lose! Is the Buckeye defense for real? Can they muster a running game? Will Luke Fickell and Ryan Day have a lovefest at midfield before the game?

OOC big games will be FSU @ Wake then OK @ KS followed by GA @ FL. Let's how sharp the higher ranked teams do. OR @ UT should be a close game. The Ducks could get knocked out of the CFP race if they lose. All of this will play into the first CFP rankings on Monday night.

I knew I shouldn't have turned on Game Day.  Reece is still being a douche.  Unbelievable how they only continue to get one side of the story and can't fathom that there is another side.  Also hard to believe they can't see how this is such an orchestrated exercise in leaking info every few days.  And sadly, Michigan can't even defend themselves yet.  McAfee, you're a douche bag too.  And Thamel, you can suck a bag a of dicks.

Had to get that off my chest.  Anyway, looking forward to the Ohio St/Wisc game.  Hoping Florida gives Georgia a game today.

Yes, Michigan can defend themselves.  But Warde Manuel will not do it.  He will never do it.  He is just allowing it to fester.  He doesn't have to talk about the 'investigation' itself, but he could repeat the actual rules and better define what the leaks are all about.

But he won't.  If it wasn't clear to you yet that Manuel does not want Harbaugh at Michigan, it should be by now.

And because of that, Ono needs to let Tommy Doman punt him into the sun.  Finding a desk-bound business manager isn't that hard...

I'm looking forward to Minnesota-Sparty, though I have little hope that it will be a replay of last year given how lousy Minny's offense is.  Hopefully they down a few Five Hour Energies and someone got Athan Kaliakmanis new contact lenses and a laser targeting system.

Two games are drawing my interest, not because of who is on the field - but instead, because of who is NOT on the field.  Those two games involve Georgia without Bowers and Texas without Ewers.

The Texas situation is of particular interest, because Texas is starting a freshman QB.  And, the QB they are starting is not Mr. “$ 280 K OV” - and, Texas will visit A2 next September.

PSU by a couple of TDs over Indiana

Kansas loses a close one to Oklahoma in the final few minutes of the game.

Florida finds the right recipe to beat Georgia, but doesn’t have enough to close the deal at the end. Georgia in a close one.

Oregon over Utah, another close one.

Duke over Louisville, Leonard gains back his early form possibly setting up a big rematch with FSU in the ACC championship.

Kentucky over Tennessee, CFB Nerds blame UM for the loss.

Wisconsin shows OSU what toughness really is, running all over them and winning by a FG.

Arizona over Oregon St.

Oklahoma @ Kansas might be a sneaky good game.  KU seems like a decent team and the Sooners are not winning this one if they play like they did last week.

I’ll mostly watch Florida/Georgia at 3:30 but switch over to Purdue/Nebraska from time to time just to see the cast of characters we’ll be facing next week.

If Penn State goes up big they win by more than Michigan does. While Harbaugh pulls starters early and takes foot off the gas, Frames won’t so he can make the case OSU was an outlier game

Big12 play has been so wildly inconsistent this season, and in general really, that it wouldn't surprise me if Oklahoma hung 70 on Kansas, or lost to them today. Either seems equally likely.

I can see a new bad league evolving out of the teams that get left behind when the SEC and B1G merge, and a new game to go with it. Will feature only special teams.
