No reason they can't beat Penn State again, though. Will be watching alongside the Madness and will head to the Joe if they advance. Go Blue!
Ohio State beat MSU in the first game 6-3.
Per the Detroit News, estimated attendance in the 1st game:300.
No, I'm not omitting a zero there.

TV?? Is this on BTN or anything?
That is a remarkably bullshit call.

We're so slow.
Red did tremendous things for Michigan but he harmed the program by staying this long. We're not in a good place.
Time to move forward.

The program is not in a good place. Disagree with me? Provide a counter argument.
and deserves something at Yost, maybe call it Red's rink at Yost. But, he did hang on about 3 years too long. Hate to see this program in such bad shape. Let's hope we bring someone in next year to breathe some life back into it.
Transition and turnovers. Watching this team and all its turnovers has been super frustrating along with transition game not not picking up players. Pretty sure Slaker could have skated back harder to pick up his guy who ultimately scored the goal. Can't have a guy that wide open in front like that. That third goal was just an awful turnover that you can't have happen with less than a minute in the period.
Since when do they review goals for offsides?!!? Wow, that is some BS.
Wow. This "crowd" is pathetic.
Call me old school, but I'd take the old WCHA/CCHA playoff format of best two out of three. Team with higher end of season position gets home ice.
Really didn't like the years they played that weird "total goals" format across the games, though.
I wonder if this shitty "Big 10" conference thing is hurting recruiting- it's like a five-star football recruit preferring to play in the SEC over the ACC.
At least they got one goal.
I wish I could remember Red's first game at Yost. I was there with my Dad and brother. What I do remember is how excited Dad was that Red was the coach.
We sat in about the 10th row on our locker room end blue line behind the penalty boxes. There was a guy a couple rows in front of us who used to yell and scream and curse the refs until he lost his voice...every game. The type with the bulging vein in his forehead. My dad somehow found out he was postal service employee.
A couple rows in front of him was a marching band alum with a handlebar mustache. When the pep band wasn't at the game he would bring his euphonium and play in their place.
Such good memories.
+1 Long May You Run, Red.
stream plox????? XD

Sad to see him and this team go out with such a whimper, but that's reality right now

4-1 Penn State.
Final. It is done.
Okay, I must ask. When do we hear an announcement?

We've had some exciting, amazing hockey over the last 33 years.
Thank you, Red.

Thanks for everything, Red - a legend in all coaching circles.

I'm ready to usher in the new era. I have only been to a handful of UM hockey games in the last 5 years(despite living within walking distance of Yost). Even in games where they won, it just wasn't good hockey during recent memory.

So with Michigan and State out, how many fans at tomorrow's afternoon game? 12?
March 16th, 2017 at 11:21 PM ^
Twelve is way to high. Somewhere between 3-9.
Thanks Red. Enjoy the rest of your life.

I don't think he wants to go anywhere and I don't think Warde has the testies to fire him.

"Yea Warde doesn't want me back" or "I dont want to come back?" It's been pretty well documented that he's wanted to retire for at least a year.

I forgot that this game was even happening tonight. This at the same time I'm rooting for the Fighting Sioux to win a basketball game.
It's the apocalypse or I'm really hammered.

He resurrected M hockey. Sad this is how it ended. I am so grateful we had him, and for so long.
Red is the only coach Michigan has had in my lifetime....and I'm in my 30s. Just crazy. Thanks for the amazing memories, Red. I'll never forget '96, '97 or '98 or any of my years in the student section. Yost holds many special memories for me; most of it is thanks to Red. Enjoy retirement...you've more than earned it. Go Blue!
