On the one hand Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with an absolutely loaded Dallas team. The same Barry Switzer who ran the wishbone most of the time he was at Oklahoma. (One notable exception was in 1984 and 1985 with Troy Aikman in a pro-style offense. It lasted until Aikman broke his leg against Miami (YTM); Oklahoma went back to the wishbone, won the rest of its games that year and Aikman transferred to UCLA.)

On the other hand this Dallas team is nowhere near as loaded and there's no guarantee that Meyer's system or style will translate to the NFL. Which doesn't mean that Meyer won't give it a try.

True played half a year at OU.  His leg was broken during a game (if drunken memory serves — YTM).  Clarence Thompson replaced him; they went back to the ‘bone, and the rest was history.

years later, the acting president who was the law dean asked for his, switzers, resignation due to overly bending NCAA Regs and getting caught.

Why would Meyer go to the NFL?  He can control his own roster in college, not subject to the draft designed to equalize results, and get paid just as much.  The legend Nick Saban found winning in the NFL wasn’t nearly as easy as college.  If FSU and SC both chased after him, he could write his own ticket.

No they aren't this is bullshit. They have already said they'll never hire him...and mentioned that it is for the same reason they would've never hired Spurrier.

The same reason we will never hire Meyer or Tressel or wouldn't have ever hired Woody.

USC is going to throw him $10M or something crazy. FSU is going to have to find another route.

USC’s AD is run by a group of incredibly wealthy & powerful brokers.  They don’t give 2 shits about the appearance of hiring Urban and I think they can over rule the Pres with their influence.

USC believes that they need a winner and they need the national stage. With the recruiting potential if USC, Urban will build a monster in LA if they go with him.

Sane issue folks raise about UM:  who else would you hire?

That is not remotely analogous. Different conferences. Much less historical antagonism.

Now, he may go to USC because he'll have pick of the litter in recruiting southern California, and he won't have to worry about matching up with Clemson, but saying that his tenure at UF is why he won't go to FSU is not at all accurate.

Meyer is not going to USC. The new President was brought in to clean up the many messes at USC, including a very serious sexual abuse scandal involving their health center. No way they bring in Meyer with his baggage, no matter how good a coach he is.

Taggart has a pretty good recruit class going on. Perhaps Wille can point a couple of guys to his good friend JimH

I could see Meyer at FSU.  He nearly faked his own death and left UF in a bit of shambles -- which has extended for most of the decade he's been gone -- so I'm not sure what warm feelings Gator fans have left for him.  (Though they appreciate the championships and would take him back, I'm sure.)  He has an evil CEO persona anyway, like Saban, who left LSU and then showed up 3 years later at one of LSU's biggest rivals.
