Taggart fired at FSU
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
At least he’ll get a nice parting gift in the form of an enormous bag of cash.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
You know who else just got very rich? Urban Meyer. At least assuming all of 'medical issues' are cleared up again. FSU is going to throw a ridiculous contract at that guy, and he should take it.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Urban Meyer is going to NFL has nothing to prove in college.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Like I need a reason to hate the cowboys more

Like I need a reason to hate the cowboys more
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:51 PM ^
A point so spot on it had to be said twice.
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
If Jerry Jones wants him he will outbid everyone. And if Jerry Jones comes calling Urban will jump at it. What's he got to prove in college? But winning the Super Bowl with "America's Team?" That would be the greatest of all middle fingers.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
What makes you think that Meyer would be interested in working for a morally bankrupt and nearly universally hated organization like the Cowboys?
[Edit: Oh, gotcha]
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
I almost choked laughing at that one. Hilarious.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
On the one hand Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with an absolutely loaded Dallas team. The same Barry Switzer who ran the wishbone most of the time he was at Oklahoma. (One notable exception was in 1984 and 1985 with Troy Aikman in a pro-style offense. It lasted until Aikman broke his leg against Miami (YTM); Oklahoma went back to the wishbone, won the rest of its games that year and Aikman transferred to UCLA.)
On the other hand this Dallas team is nowhere near as loaded and there's no guarantee that Meyer's system or style will translate to the NFL. Which doesn't mean that Meyer won't give it a try.
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Aikman in the Transfer Portal.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:23 AM ^
True played half a year at OU. His leg was broken during a game (if drunken memory serves — YTM). Clarence Thompson replaced him; they went back to the ‘bone, and the rest was history.
years later, the acting president who was the law dean asked for his, switzers, resignation due to overly bending NCAA Regs and getting caught.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
BPONE thinks Meyer to the NFL five years after they shouldve offered him is perfect.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:31 PM ^
ditto
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
No college coach has ever won a National Championship at 3 different schools.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
Good point. Not only that, but has any college coach covered up major crimes at 3 different schools?
I think Urban can do it.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:53 PM ^
Rick Pitino and John Calipari call that child's play.
November 3rd, 2019 at 10:45 PM ^
Pitino says “here hold my hooker”
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:44 PM ^
He's going to USC not the NFL
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
I thought do until the last couple of days. I’m not sure USC can hire someone with all that baggage right now. The new athletic director makes hiring him more difficult. He will go to Tennessee or FSU.
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
Tennessee or FSU? What are you smoking, and can I have some?
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
Yeah, he’d be licking his chops at USC facing those PAC 12 defenses. Not lowering himself to Tennessee or FSU
November 3rd, 2019 at 9:33 PM ^
I agree that IF Meyer were to coach again he would go to USC. He would fence in all that prime southern CA + AZ + Oregon + Nevada talent and dominate the Pac 12. USC would be back to a top 10 program within two years. Then we can all go back to hating USC with a passion.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:49 PM ^
Nick Saban might say no don't go, then again he might say please do go!
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
Why would Meyer go to the NFL? He can control his own roster in college, not subject to the draft designed to equalize results, and get paid just as much. The legend Nick Saban found winning in the NFL wasn’t nearly as easy as college. If FSU and SC both chased after him, he could write his own ticket.
November 4th, 2019 at 2:03 AM ^
He would go to the NFL so he can prove he’s better than Saban
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:13 PM ^
USC will offer him a boat load of money also!
November 4th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
USC thinks otherwise.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
What about Notre Dame and USC? A 3 front war?
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:46 PM ^
No they aren't this is bullshit. They have already said they'll never hire him...and mentioned that it is for the same reason they would've never hired Spurrier.
The same reason we will never hire Meyer or Tressel or wouldn't have ever hired Woody.
USC is going to throw him $10M or something crazy. FSU is going to have to find another route.
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
Dave Aranda, any one of the 3 Clemson ACs, Cristobal makes sense but they won't go back to Oregon to find their guy with ties to the state of FL.
Matt Rhule has proved himself...Memphis' head coach Norvell or SMU's Dykes may make sense.
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
Add Bob Stoops and Mark Stoops. I wonder if FSU thinks this is too big of a job for a first time HC?
I'll be surprised if neither Fleck or Franklin get mentioned. If only so they get more money from their current schools. It's time for them to cash in on those 8-0 records.
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
Jeebus.
I can't get past this silly love for Mike Norvell (whose teams avoid defense like a plague and who lost, convincingly, to a middling Temple Owl team this year).
Matt Rhule, for sure, has proven himself both at Temple and Baylor but he's more likely an NFL head coach in waiting given his pedigree.
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
USC has said they won’t hire Meyer. They’ve been in the news enough lately. I don’t think FSU would have fired Taggart unless an available coach was highly interested. I bet that available coach is Meyer. It makes a ton of sense for him to go there.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
USC’s AD is run by a group of incredibly wealthy & powerful brokers. They don’t give 2 shits about the appearance of hiring Urban and I think they can over rule the Pres with their influence.
USC believes that they need a winner and they need the national stage. With the recruiting potential if USC, Urban will build a monster in LA if they go with him.
Sane issue folks raise about UM: who else would you hire?
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:52 PM ^
This is what FSU can throw at him:
1) a variety of criminals playing football
2) university and city police departments who wear blindfolds when it comes to criminals playing football
3) a state attorneys office that trusts blindfolded police departments(wink)
4) 5 million
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
It’s hard to complete with that offer
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
USC can match 1-3 and make it $10 million.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:25 PM ^
....and lots of these....
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:16 PM ^
Oh man, Urban would need soooooo much “family time” following a stint at FSU.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
5) Hot Co-eds
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Make that 8 million
November 3rd, 2019 at 3:49 PM ^
Uh dude. Urban going to FSU after being at UF is the equivalent of him coming to Michigan after coaching OSU. Not going to happen. What will happen is him going to USC. The asking price just got higher tho.
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:13 PM ^
That is not remotely analogous. Different conferences. Much less historical antagonism.
Now, he may go to USC because he'll have pick of the litter in recruiting southern California, and he won't have to worry about matching up with Clemson, but saying that his tenure at UF is why he won't go to FSU is not at all accurate.
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
Meyer is not going to USC. The new President was brought in to clean up the many messes at USC, including a very serious sexual abuse scandal involving their health center. No way they bring in Meyer with his baggage, no matter how good a coach he is.
Taggart has a pretty good recruit class going on. Perhaps Wille can point a couple of guys to his good friend JimH
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:31 PM ^
USC hired Cincinnatti's AD who's very good friends with Meyer. I don't think they'd do that unless they were interested in luring Meyer to SoCal.
Unless they're trying to hire Fickell which would be hilarious.
November 3rd, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
Fickell??? 6-6 luke fickell, no chance in hell that happens.
November 3rd, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
It s actually just the opposite. Good article in the l.a. times yesterday on why it’s less likely now.
November 3rd, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
USC is a football school that wants to get back on top of the mountain. If Meyer is interested they would hire him in a second and not worry about any baggage. Don’t think for a second that they wouldn’t
November 3rd, 2019 at 4:18 PM ^
I could see Meyer at FSU. He nearly faked his own death and left UF in a bit of shambles -- which has extended for most of the decade he's been gone -- so I'm not sure what warm feelings Gator fans have left for him. (Though they appreciate the championships and would take him back, I'm sure.) He has an evil CEO persona anyway, like Saban, who left LSU and then showed up 3 years later at one of LSU's biggest rivals.
