stadium scoreboard MICHIGAN banner 815am eastern
installing the MICHIGAN banner on the scoreboard right now 815am eastern
I was hoping against hope that the lettering would be the "classic" Michigan Stadium lettering that formerly appeared on the press box. And that the Eagle would return. Alas.
While I also was hoping for that lettering, I think the classic "MICHIGAN STADIUM" they went with looks great. Still seems like there's too much blank (non-videoboard) space on the sides, but we'll see what goes up in the near future.
It looks pretty close to the font on the outside of the pre-1998 scoreboards...
Unless they're planning to rip them out, those letters are already in place on the concourse. If you were saying they should just use the same font, I agree that would be pretty cool. I don't mind the font they used though.
And that the Eagle would return. Alas. You mean the war memorial statue? Isn't that in the same place it always was?
No, the eagle statue that former had residence on the top of the press box before the renovations. It was nominally there to keep birds away from the field, but it always looked cool.
heading might be simple, but it also looks massive and intimidating. Looks great!
Glad I was running late for work this morning. By the time I drove by there (which I do every day and never get tired of it!), the whole "MICHIGAN STADIUM" was in place. It looks awesomely awesome to the awesomest degree.
I think it looks good, but does it remind anyone else of magnets on a refrigerator door?
Screenshot?
It looks like the words MICHIGAN STADIUM are raised, so they look 3 dimensional. You can see a little shadow below them.
That's cool.
Compare; the new Yost scoreboard:
I might have designed it differently myself, but I do like things "matched," and consistent branding and logos.
We should probably expect much the same at Crisler.
"branding"? Is that you Dave?
Michigan Stadium than Yost, and I like Yost's font better actually.
I'll have see them both in person to decide though.
I don't think the fonts are the same. Compare the As—you can see the Yost lettering better in this photo:
This will result in a point-reduction on Brandon's Brand Equity Management midterm.
How can anyone honestly say that " MICHIGAN STADIUM" above the video board looks bad?
I just checked. Nobody said it looked bad. I didn't. In fact I said it was "not bad." "Not bad" is different from "looks bad." Those two things -- bad and not bad -- are what we in the business call "opposites."
There were two differing ideas on fonts for the lettering; both drawn from Michigan traditional roots. One idea was the old lettering from atop the old press box. And my idea was the same basic lettering, only utilizing a different font (from the Split M logo).
By the way, those jeans make your butt look fat.
FWIW, the crane is moving quite a bit right now. They could be starting on the sides.
I think they were just craning up a few triples from Blimpy for lunch.
I can see the top of it from my office conference room. Someone have a chainsaw I could borrow? I could improve the viewing considerably with a little judicious tree removal near Packard & Division.
DB has rewarded our faith well.
I'm excited! with the size of this thang I'l be able to watchfrom my yard, while I'm grilling, out here in Portland, OR. :) GO BLUE
They are putting something on the backside of the scoreboard right now (facing outward). Almost looks as if they are rolling something on it.
I don't think so. It looks like it's behind those columns so it might be the back.
Yes, I see them. I'm talking about those yellow columns (horizontal) to the left of the screen. The newest additions are behind those yellow horizontal columns. The speakers wouldn't be behind them.
It looks like they are adding on the back. Which is obvsioulsy due to this thread.
The yellow rails appear to be at the front, so speakers would probably go behind them, but there's no way those are speakers. It does look like that's just the backside of the board.
To the left and right of the video screen, there are yellow rails on the front and the back. See photo below. Speakers would go in between the rails.
Why would they start erecting the back of the board in that area?
I drove by earlier. It's the back of the board.
I think I've seen it all....a looong discussion of the size and font type of the letters up on the new scoreboards. At least we all know we have nothing better to do. This is the result of "always on" info devices and the need to know -- talk about Michigan Reality TV.
I can remember the days when we'd all show up for that first game of the season, which is around my anniversary, to see what they've done with the stadium during the off-season.
I'm glad I'm too old to have had a webcam for my honeymoon. I promise you, you wouldn't be talking about the size of my font................well, then again...
In the meantime, the video screen for the south scoreboard is beginning to go up. From the Michigan Stadium Aerials site (photos dated 7/24):
Looks like Raoul was right - there appears to be some screen at the bottom now, separated from the larger screen.
the crane's been moving, and seems to be some activity going on the third level
EDIT: looks like paneling for the back of the scoreboard
They are installing the bottom portion of the scoreboard now, looks as if it maybe a video screen and not a fixed GO WOLVERINE sign?
That's too bad, I was really hoping that the bottom of one board would permanently read "Go Wolverines" and the other "Go Big Blue".
I'm holding out for a gigantic banner that goes across all the suite windows that reads, "DOWN IN FRONT!"
You sir deserve a yellow card.
Looks as if all the workers have gone for the night, now what am I going to watch?
