If true, the arrogance is otherworldly. So Dantonio goes to see his "boss" Beekman and says I'm coaching in 2000 and I'm gonna tell you who my successor is going to be? What AD or school President would put up with that nonsense. Spartans will!

Dantonio to Beekman. "I'm going to coach 2020 and Tressel will succeed me"

Beekman: "Cool about 2020 but I'm gonna check out who else might be out there."

Dantonio: "Fuck you. I quit."

Probably the biggest difference is that Lloyd told UM he wanted to retire and stayed around an extra year as a courtesy to the program. Dantonio totally screwed over MSU by retiring the day before the final recruiting signing period, after saying he would return for next season.

Obligatory:

Proverbs 16.18

"Pride comes before the fall"

Or

King James Version text:

"Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall"

Not buying it.

They hired a search firm in secret, nobody knew about it until now. And yet they couldn't even meet with Fickell without the whole world knowing before it even happened?

If they thought they had a year and planned on doing a discreet search, I can see it.  Doubt the firm would start in earnest right away. I’m sure they were planning on taking months to gather a list of potential candidates before they would even start reaching out.  Then Mork got pissed and resigned and shit hit the fan and they had to move asap

MSU has to bear the brunt of the upcoming heat, so it is understandable they're cutting bait.  Karma is so sweet.  Pride surely does come before the fall Mork.

Welp, there goes my theory that Shurmur would end up being the choice if Fickell declined.

For a former player and presumably loyal Spartan like Shurmur to pre-emptively take his name out of any speculation speaks to how toxic the situation in EL must be.

I find this hard to believe considering the timing of his announcement, literally hours after new allegations against him and on the eve of signing day.

I can't see him learning about this and quitting on the spot, especially when he would have likely had enough clout to get the search firm to pick his preferred successor anyway.

Yes and yes.

Someone at MSU is being petty. No doubt Dantonio has rubbed more than just Michigan fans the wrong way over the years.

At the same time, it's just a distraction. Don't look at how we're screwing this up. Definitely don't look at those NCAA allegations. Don't look at how no one of note wants the job. We're only in this mess because Dantonio is a big baby.

The Supreme Coach resigned because he couldn't stand by any longer as corruption befell the formerly great Michigan State University. Supreme Coach already has plans for a come back. Stay tuned
