Some good basketball news today (Jaylen Brown)

Submitted by bballislife22 on

Good news on the Jaylen Brown front. Definitely do not want to copy and paste straight from Scout, but to paraphrase a little bit, two separate sources (Sam Webb and Brian Snow) have heard that not only is Michigan in the running for Brown's services next year, but that we are in the top TWO. Both insiders are unsure who the other team in the top two would be. Kentucky, Kansas, and UCLA are possibilities.

For those who have a Scout membership, the information can be found here:

Trying not to get my hopes up too high here, but I think if we somehow scored Brown, and Caris came back, we would be a top five team next year.

To be fair, we did have a "Hello-ish" post for football just the other day (granted, it was more of a formality than an actual announcement), but yeah, it has definitely been a while for basketball, as I recall. A "Hello: Jaylen Brown" post, if there was ever a need to post such a thing, would definitely be welcome and probably be the cause of one of those famous protracted 502 / 503 periods on the blog.

But even with that "Hello-ish," it has been pretty much a done deal that we were getting him for months now. It only now becoming "official," doesn't mean much. I've found myself getting excited about the "Hello: (insert walk-on name here)" posts.

this is great news. really need the gold medal on this one; silver just won't do.

landing jaylen brown could have a snowball effect on subsequent classes

The ultimate dong punch would be UK winning the tourney and getting Brown.

Calipari better leave for the NBA after this season

Calipari might lose 9 guys to the draft, and we'll be loaded with veteran depth regardless of Caris' decision and before theoretically adding Brown. This doesn't take a rocket scientist. Nice to get into the top 2, I guess.

Really? He's the honest one. He does more or less exactly what he tells recruits.

They are sharing playing time among 9-10 enormously talented players. He could have screwed the bottom 3-4 and left them riding the bench after promising them the world.

I have zero problem with what he is doing at Kentucky. Everyone else talks publicly about fighting for dear alma mater, but privately tells recruits he'll get them to the NBA. Caliperi is honest and everyone hates him for it.

I highly doubt that...all he has to do is tell guards that they will be the next Derrick Rose or John Wall if they sign. For big man he'll say play for me and I can turn you into Boogie Cousins or Anthony Davis. Cal is getting kids because of his track record for pumping out 1st rd. Draft picks.

They consistently bring in at least 4-5 McDonald's All-Americans year after year, and you don't think anything is fishy?

Don't be so naive. As for the NBA argument, aside from John Wall and Anthony Davis, how many early entries have panned out so far?

I think he's a mercenary at best and lower than pond scum at the worst. Two FFs vacated at two different schools, Hell, Doron Lamb made a rather cryptic tweet about enticements that UK dangles in front of recruits.

I'd rather lose knowing I've done it honestly than cut corners.

But that's just me.

Most of them aren't doing too bad.  12 of their 16 early entrees have been first round draft picks so the received guaranteed contracts.  Some of the better performers after Wall and Davis:

Patrick Patterson is in his 7th yr in the NBA.

Erik Bledsoe is in his 5th yr in the NBA.  This past off season he signed a 5 yr $70 million dollar contract.

Brandon Knight has been in the NBA 4 years.  He made the All-rookie team his first year and has a career scoring average of 15 pts/game.

Michael Kidd Gilcrest is in his 3rd year in the NBA.  He made the All-Rookie second team his first year.

Terrence Jones is in his 3rd year in the NBA and averaged 12 pts/game last year.

This will be ultimate dong punch. Getting our hopes only to choose a different school.
