Slightly OT: RichRod Flips WVU Recruit
Not sure if anyone caught this, or if they really care, but Rodriguez aparently still retains some of his "guy in a wizard hat selling snake oil" powers of yore.
J.T. Washington a three star Athlete (aka mini-mite RB) from Florida flipped this morning from West Virginia to Arizona. Washington had been committed to WVU since last summer.
I guess it wasn't enough to just lure a few coaches away. Nice to see Rich still making friends and influencing people in the lovely state of West Virginia.

Little more than slightly OT but still funny.

Now that all of our LOI's are signed and delivered just looking for a little something else Michigan related to keep me from doing any serious work this afternoon.

And I thought it was entertaining. I think RR posts are jus' fine as long as they're in moderation. Lloyd Carr doesn't coach for Michigan, either, and I'm fine hearing about him.

Lloyd won a National Championship. Just sayin...

But I don't really care all that much.
The one exception is Neal...if he takes that kid away from OSU...positive for us.

Slightly is the new entirely.

I'm surprised more didn't flip after he built his staff with Pitt and WVU guys. Seems like there are other examples (guy going from ND to OSU) where this isn't uncommon.

This isn't slighty off-topic; it's just straight up off-topic, and there's no reason for it to be posted here. If you want to discuss Rick Rodgriguez flipping a 3* West Virginia recruit then find an Arizona blog.

touchy much? Maybe it's because I had the benefit of being a senior when Michigan won their last national championship, but the way I see it is that RR was Michigan's head coach and that puts him in a very distinguished fraternity, regardless of the outcomes. I'll continue to follow him peripherally, and think this is pretty interesting. Now, if we get a ton of threads about RR flipping recruits or signing this kid from that place, then that's way over the line. But for a onesy twosy sort of thing, I see no problems with it.

This is new ground for us. We've never had a Michigan coach who then went on to coach somewhere else in most of our lifetimes.
RR was a coach for Michigan. That will always be his status. I will always pay some attention to what he does.

Nice Dale Carnegie reference. Well done.

I don't understand people who get their panties in a bunch wrt anything Rich Rod. He's gone. He was head coach at UM, like it or not. Posts about Lloyd still seem to be kosher.

Gotta love it! Someone complaining about an OT at the same time their committing a double post.
February 1st, 2012 at 2:58 PM ^
Next thing you know he'll be complaining that you misspelled "they're."
February 1st, 2012 at 2:37 PM ^
When RR left AA he dumped all his Michigan gear at the salvation army, looks like he held on to that wizard hat and snake oil though.
February 1st, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
If RR had kept any of his Michigan stuff, his critics would say that he "cant let go of his past" or "is still haunted by Michigan." Instead, he made sure that people who really wanted it would get it, and a charity benefitted from his generosity.
A very classy move by a very classy man.

Just as a FYI I read GsBlue's post in a more snark/sarcastic way. We know giving to the Salvation Army is a good cause and RR left town in a very dignifed way considering how he was treated.

on the West Virginia posting boards right now. Assuming they know how to use a computer.

I know people are sick of the RR talk but it is kinda funny to see him get the last laugh in (if that's what you call it). WVU really douched him hard. He deserves to win one.

Even Less OT - RichRod ate pancakes for breakfast this morning.

If I could I would neg this post to hell. Enough with the RR OT crap, no one cares, the guy is gone. Hokemania lives on.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
Since we're talking in absolutes, everyone here loves Hoke. And I think everyone has made peace about RR leaving. This is just interesting snake oil news about a guy who snaked for us for a few years, and honestly, I like hearing occasional posts about how he's doing. So I care. An interesting tangent of Michigan history.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:48 PM ^
Yeah, I was one of the people complaining loudest about the other 'Rich Rod signs so-and-so' threads but this one is pretty interesting. Stuff like this doesn't bother me. It's just when we get updates that are like "3* LB down to Arizona and Tulane."

Nice to see that the OP has held on to the same anti-RR double standard that plagued the coach during his time at UM.
Frankly, I wouldn't blame RR if he snaked one of our own recruits after the shit we put him through. Plus it's safe to say that RR is a probably a better man to have your kid playing for than Dana Holgersen, even if his somewhat sleazy image is overblown.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:21 PM ^
This post is clearly a post about RR. Some of us DO care how he is doing. If you are not one of them then you don't have to read/post on the thread.

Like a tounge returns to sore tooth...the blog returns to Rich Rod.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
I, for one, think this is interesting.
West Virginia University screwed Rodriguez over and cost him a ton of money and possibly undermined his job at Michigan, which cost him even more money. Rodriguez had a hand in getting himself fired, of course, but the guy who was at one point probably the hottest college football coach in the country has fallen to the point where he's at a weak Pac-12 school and stealing unranked or 3-star recruits.

I don't if this was mentioned or if the kids were Pitt commits, but the assistants did get some kids out of that state.
