SIAP: Dantonio Finally Makes a Statement on Investigation

Submitted by FauxMo on

I am shocked this has not already been posted here, and sorry if it has and I missed, but Dantonio has finally made a statement on the turmoil inside the program:

General negative and "I hate MSU" comment aside, this statement is way too little, too late, in my opinion. First, it's clearly "boilerplate PR" statement material here, saying virtually nothing. Second, to wait this long to say something given everything that's going, and then to say so little when doing so, is probably going to make folks madder than they already are (FYI: there are apparently a sizeable group of pissed parents and boosters attached to the program who thinks Dantonio should have said something long before this to "clear the air").

Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe he has been forbidden from saying anything by MSU higher-ups until now, but this looks to me to be patching holes in the Titanic with a tube of caulk...

BiSB pointed this out on Twitter, but it's interesting how Dantonio starts off using "I" and "my," but when he starts talking about the trouble it turns to "we" and "our."

Rivalry aside, I think the guy is a son of a bitch.  I think he's a hateful, shitty human and he's demonstrated over and over again that he's very willing to get guys back out on the field as soon as he can.  He does just enough to give the media the impression that he's about the discipline, but he's obvioulsy not.

That is fair. I apologize. I am just getting frustrated with the lack of conversation. Valenti and the 97.1 crew aren't saying a damn thing (shocking, I know), and the rest of the local media aren't doing a damn thing. You've got the freep writers going after Michigan for what amounted to a little too much stretching, but this type of shit (criminal shit) gets under reported there all the time. I'm getting pretty tired of it. From even before Payne and Appling! Any movement on the Mateen Cleeves rape case? Thought not.. that's the type of shit I'm talking about, but you are correct about the Gibbons case.

Is Rape 101 a core class at msu. How many times has this shit not been reported. Of course there are bad seeds at all university's, but for the sake of the student athlete who is a good person please don't reward the bad. ie Joe Mixon.

With the way MSU has handled this whole situation. But they've handled it fine. It's best to keep it in house when you are still trying to figure out what's going on and protect your players instead of just jumping out day 1 and saying "X, Y, Z are suspended, you won't see them for awhile."

Everyone is always in such a rush for answers. I despise MSU and Dantonio for a lot, but the handling of this issue isn't one of them.

And I'm not sure what face needs to be saved. It's the fans and the media who are burning for answers because they want stuff to write about. They'll be plenty to discuss when the investigation is over.

Need to answer questions that are created from the media and the fan backlash? This stuff is all handled when everything is resolved and the person/university can come forward with the information.

It wouldn't be fair to ANYONE to pre-emtively go to the podium to talk about those players and what the investigation is about when the people doing the investigating still don't have the answers.
