Overall good not great seasons by both, just sad both are going to end with such a bad taste in your mouth.

Poole, Brooks, and Livers all got better this year and there's no reason to think that they can't be still better next year. DeJulius will get more minutes and has plenty of upside.  Someone has to got to get to the point where they make threes reliably.  We shoot 33% on the 3's yesterday and it's a very close game.

This program has come a long way when there's this much angst over 30-7 and a Sweet Sixteen, including calls for Beilein to change the offense.

After scoring the fewest points by a 2 seed in NCAA tournament history I don't want to hear how amazing Beilein is. The fact is Izzo and Beard coached circles around this man in the biggest games of the year. We won 30 games and didn't hang any banners. It was a good year, but the ending was a fucking disaster.

I'm judging him on the entire season. You can't lose to your rival three times and get blown out in the tournament and expect people to get on board with the Beilein is amazing talk in the immediate aftermath. Come the fuck on. The guy isn't above criticism. Yes what he's done with the program in his tenure has been awesome but the bar has been raised now and we peed down our leg in every big moment this year and our coach had no answers on offense all season. Just admit it.

And by every big moment, you mean every big moment that you want to count and ignore all the other big moments that we didn’t pee down our leg against all the good teams we beat this year, including beating a two seed by 30. I mean, come the fuck on, we had back to back 30 win seasons for the first time in our basketball program’s history and you want me to believe Beilein isn’t awesome because you said so. Also, come the fuck on and quit being a whiny bitch

Also, lol at you starting your post off saying you are judging him on the entire season and then pointing to 4 total games as to why you think Beilein isn’t awesome. Fuck off

WTF does the entire tenure have to do with anything??!  Dod OP say to fire Beilin??! No!  You may have missed the second half of the season where we were below average at best. This game wasn’t the exception, it was all to common in the second half of the season, go count the L’s.  You can stick your head in th sand and rewatch the glory years if you want , you do you.   We have a real problem in basketball and football right now, go pretend we don’t and enjoy.  Tell yourself it will just be all better in the morning. I’m not ok with being dog walked by State and I’m sure as hell not ok with two 2 decades of losing to the Suckeyes in fottball.  I’m tired of “next year”.

With all due respect, I replied to the OP bc his basketball PMS was clouding his thinking when he was implying that Beilen isn't an amazing coach.

Correction: Beiliin is a fucking amazing coach and will go down as the best fucking coach you, me and Michigan will probably experience in our generation.

That doesn't mean he is a perfect coach.

After having the longest sustained period of success in the past 12 + years that has included two final four appearances, two big ten tournament titles, 3 consecutive Sweet sixteen runs, three 30+ winning seasons and above all else doing this while running a clean program that maximizes the talents of under the radar recruits, all I can say to you and the OP is this: Chill the Fuck out Dude.

I don't know what the "real problem" is that you are alluding to, but our flaws in basketball this year has nothing to do with questionable coaching and play calling that has plagued our football team. It's quite simply we hit our talent ceiling this year and our lack of shooters and play makers got exposed by the best defensive team in the freaking nation.

Yeah, it sucks that we went 0-3 against MSU but unlike our football team, we aren't going to lose every game nor win every game. If go on a 14 game losing streak to our rivals like our football team is doing then ok, that's when you have permission to complain.

But until then, just chill.

The team wasn’t that good this year. The fact that they LOOKED good shows that the coach knows what he’s doing.

A disappointing end to this season would have been a first round loss. Losing in the round of 16 on the back of a terrible offensive game shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Love JB, wouldn't trade him for any other coach, but really makes me wonder what Beilein's recruiting philosophy when his team goes 0-19 on threes in the tournament.  His recruiting is just so.... odd...  Whatever that "system recruiting" is, I just don't understand why it's so hit or miss and why he can't lock down more athleticism.  Livers, zero points.  Simpson, zero points.  Yesterday we needed a player good enough to take someone off the dribble to break down that defense and like, crickets.  Also, the team flat out seemed to be playing afraid.  How many open threes did Simpson pass up?  Just odd.

That's not true.

Beilein was tired of waiting for Winston, signed Zavier, then revoked Winston's offer.

It's worked out pretty well, except for a game like tonight, where I don't think Winston even makes a difference.

TTU is a dominant team this year. Kudos to them

33-7 and 10-3 isn't mediocrity.    it isn't top 10 or NC challenging, but it isn't mediocrity.

M will consistently be a top 20 program in both sports.  M won't consistently be top 5 in either.

in football, M doesn't have access to enough of the very best players to be top 5 most years (if ever going forward). demographics matter in in football.

in basketball coaching ethics & institutional norms limit M.

if winning a NC is your definition of above mediocre you are going to be very agitated watching M.

Sorry but being in the Top 20 for UM is mediocrity by definition.  I’d like to hear how our demographics work and why we don’t have access to enough or the top players in football.  190 miles to the south they have a prett good track record of bringing in the athletes needed to be near top 5 every year.  Are you claiming that 190 miles is a continental divide that can’t be crossed.   Save the “bagmen” bs which is such a garbage excuse.  We aren’t recruiting well enough in football but it’s not because of geography!!   The “ethics” part is such a lame ass excuse when we watched the Gibbons and  Lewan fiasco play out.  Hell even if Grant Perry played for anyone else we would have roasted them.    Ethics as you use it is a tired bs excuse for poor recruiting and even worse coaching.  I get we weren’t better than the  suckeyes this year and I can live with that.  62 point and 2 decades of futility is harder to swallow.   Quitting in bowl games back to back years is coaching and has nothing to do with our level of talen.
