Semi OT - "Hello" post consolidation
Is it possible to start a "Hello" section on the board? I like to come on and read most of the content, but I specifically enjoy reading the hello posts. They are usually upbeat and positive, with good insight on each recruit.
Is this something worth considering? A separate consolidated tab? It would be great to see the current "Hello" posts; and, to read through some of the old school posts. For example, I would love to read some of the old "Hello Denard" posts.
I was not sure where else to bring this up, so I thought I would post on the board to hear if others feel this is worth pursuing.
Thoughts? Thanks.

I wouldn't mind this feature at all

using the search bar? You could do that for any player.

I enjoy looking back at those from time to time as well, but I think the search function works just fine.
If this is the meta thread, I'd like to pitch that we bring back Nefarious Eduardo. Seriously, that system (listing relevant recruits and a ballpark estimate of our chances to land each of them) was really helpfully to get a grasp on recruiting and would save us from a great many of the redundant threads.

Not the Hello post but still a fun read.

That was a nice flash to the past...

I've never been happier to be wrong - from my comment for that post:
Kid looks like a keeper. I suspect he'll be lining up somewhere other than QB by the end of his career at UM, but for now he gives a better option than anyone else on the staff.

this was "slightly less than high." Persoanlly, i think that in hindsight it would be easy to say "OMFG, this kids is going to be crazy".

The previous section at the top is just plain depressing. *bad flashbacks*

brought a tear to my eye. DR is turning into one of my all time favs.

I love the picture in that post. It looks like the guy running next to him got caught up in Denard's draft and went rolling down the track. Is it August yet?
February 8th, 2012 at 11:54 PM ^
Thanks for opening the door to that. Less fun is that poor Witty's commitment follows in the video, complete with the interviewer questioning whether he's nervous about handling the academics.

The authors (Tim and Ace) use the tag "commitment posts" when they make a Hello post. You can find all commitment posts here (and thus, Hello posts):

Edit: This page is especially painful, with the exception of Trey Burke: http://mgoblog.com/category/post-type/commitment-posts?page=8

We're all still feeling the page 8 blues round these parts. Never Forget.

Hoke's healing golden poop is an incredible balm for the burning. Howeva, what Hoke and Co. will do with this incoming class will be more than sufficient to reverse the agony.

I looked back through all of them, and I didn't see any denard commitment post. And I be like, Dang!

Wow....the Dee Hart one in particular brings back flashbacks. My fiancee and I were on our way to the Joe to watch the Wings' home opener against the Ducks. I remember that he was going to commit after his game Friday night, so I was refreshing the news every 5 minutes (I didn't know about MGoBlog back then...I call that period of time the "Dark Ages").
My fiancee and I were so excited when he committed that night (and because the Wings won 4-0 and it was Mike Modano's first game with the team and I kind of have a man crush on him).
So yeah...page 8 is depressing.

I appreciate the info. However, I still think it would be a nice addition to the main board.

In addition, i think it could be interesting for Brian or Ace to revisit each recruiting class after their four (or five) years are up. Repost the "Hello:" post with an update with their opinion on how the athlete panned out based upon his rankings.
ESPN did something similiar on WolverineNation with Michigan recruits in the ESPN 150 for the pass 5-6 years.

Is it that he lacks top end speed, or runs through his gears and hits redline in 6th in under 2 seconds?

He runs at the constant rate of Dilthium.

This was brought up last offseason in a thread about improvements that people wanted. I think it was suggested to have multiple categories for different sports and types of posts. Then, you could select what you see on the main page or select a category to view. Obviously it wasn't implemented, but I think that if he were to implement what you are suggesting, he should go something more along this route to give more versatility to the readers.

It would help learn about the recruits.

Not OT
February 9th, 2012 at 6:06 AM ^
I'd like it even better if the FIRST POST types could refrain from making their own "Hello so-and-so" board posts when a commitment is announced. Kindly wait for Ace/whomever so that all the discussion can be consolidated in one spot. Thanks!

I want to know everything as soon as anyone knows anything. But I'm probably alone here.
