Searching for the Upside, Folks

Not really throwing up in my mouth next time I see the Kordell Stewart bomb?  Seems so trivial now.

We have a mediocre offense and an above average defense. No one can dispute that. Have fun. Try to live through the weekend.

Rudock is great at what he does.  He isn't great at hitting receivers downfield.  In retrospect, Harbaugh has done a lot with what he has to work with.

Next season, I am betting the QB battle will be between John O'Korn and Brandon Peters.  Both can hit an open guy downfield.  Sorry, no embed, but O'Korn's highlight reel as a freshman at UH shows he can hit receivers downfield and in stride.

There are two other "upsides."

1.  Michigan got terrible calls, got arguably their best LB kicked out of the game on a bogus penalty, botched one horrible play on defense and one on special teams, and it took Sparty until there was no time on the clock to win.

2.  If Michigan had run the table in Harbuagh's first season, it would have been like it was "too easy."  Now he has unfinished business going into next year.

Here's O'Korn's freshman highlights.

This was a big failure. This game was very important to our season. Looks as if we are back on track to a 4 or 5 losses this season as expected at the beginning of season. It just sucks to see MSU win on a lucky play after they have been kicking our asses for the past 8 years. Michigan should have won! And it sucks we have to play them up in EL next year which will probably be a loss next season. We probably lost a lot of recruits as well because of this game.

We'll beat those guys and I even think we'll win out. Did you want to go to the playoffs and be picked apart by a good QB/WR? No rdisrespect to Jake but next year we have some serious passers that will be starting our games, that will change everything. I'm more disappointed we let that big dumb fullback rumble down for a touchdown, that' to me was a bigger embarrasment than how it ended.

I would normally downvote you to the nether regions, but obviously you are too traumatized to think straight....let me help you with how the rest of the season goes:  WE DON'T LOSE. NOT TO NOBODY.  GOT IT?  Now, suck it up and think Harbaugh.  For cryin' out loud.

I see us heading into the Saturday after thanksgiving with a chance to make it to the B1G playoff a, I wrong that all it would take is OSU beating Sparty, and us, them, and them winning the rest as well.  (Honestly, Sparty is the least likely to hold uptheir end of the bargain -- a loss in Lincoln awaits -- but that only helps the cause here.)

It sucked, but it is not the end of the season.

5 losses?  Only if Rudock gets hurt and the backup QB performs worse than Rudock.

We're going to crush Minn, Indiana, Rutgers and PSU.

OSU is the only threat left on the schedule.

Harbaugh has taken this squad from the bottom of the B1G to competing with the top team(s) in one season.

Things are only going to get better.

This is not worse than Bill Buckner bobbling the routine ground ball in the 1986 Series.

But it's up there.  This will rank with the "Kick 6" (Alabama vs. Auburn in 2013) and "The Play" (Cal vs. Stanford in 1982).

I am looking forward to Sparty going to their next Maxwell.

I also want Cook as a Lions QB for two reasons.

1. Look at the difference between Cook and every other QB Sparty tried before him in the same offense.

2. Either Cook will do the same for Detroit, or he will suffer as the next Lions QB to suck year after year.

stressed how it rules all his time because it's his job, etc so it's what he believes in. I am not a history teacher but I do have a history degree and history has always been my way to view the world. I think only one first year Michigan coach beat Spaty, From that I was okay if we dropped this one. I also note what Bo did to the Buckeyes his first game in 1969 after they were coming off their championship season. Yeah it sucks now but my historical view of the world tells me we beat the Buckeyes this year. When that happens this will be forgotten

There are positive takeaways, maybe we'll keep Durkin for another year now. Maybe Michigan will be here in Florida for a bowl in which case I'll get to go. We weren't expected to go to the playoffs and probably don't have a QB for the playoffs but that will change in the future. A minor setback and overall a good corrrection in course. Did hatin #ss Spurrier give us the evil eye, that thought did cross my mind.

was worse- I was there and felt physically sick for like two weeks; I am already getting over this  one (though in 50 years of watching football, I had never seen anything like that...). Maybe I am just older and have more perspective or something, but this just resets our expectations back to what we were all thinking at the beginnning of the season.

The team is now tasked to win the next four, then let's see what we can do vs OSU. NOW GET UP!
