Scoreboard Progress, North vs. South
In a now-buried thread, dahblue asked whether the south scoreboard is being completed at the same time as the north. I figured others might be wondering about this as well, (perhaps) making this worth starting yet another scoreboard thread.
I went past the stadium today on the way to/from the miserably hot Art Fair. The frame has now been completed for the south scoreboard, but no sections of the video screen have been installed. Perhaps they’re going to complete the north video screen before starting on the south screen.
Two more sections of the north scoreboard video screen went up today. For those who can’t access the webcam (link), here’s a screen capture from earlier tonight:
Also, here’s a close-up of the north scoreboard from the Michigan Stadium Aerials site (photo dated 7/19):
...with a score of "Informative." One fake MGoPoint to you, sir.
my lanta, I thought the screen was only going to be that center peice. I didn't realize there are North and South ends to the screen. Good lawd.
Not sure if serious. There is a scoreboard on the north end of the stadium and one on the south end.
No doubt, they'll have to have something on the outsides, but I really doubt it would be video boards. Hoping it's a giant block M at least (with other possible accoutrements).
I'm just an idiot, and was confused. To clarify, I thought the video peice was only going to be the center part that was already up. I didn't realize it was going to get bigger.
I drove by today as well.
Large...very large.
Looks like donkey kong
My brother had a doctors appt. at the hospital, so we drove by the stadium on the way out of town. HOLY HUGE! Those pics are great, but they still don't do it justice. Looking forward to seeing them up close and personal this fall.
This is making me want to fly up for a game.
if the UofM logo is still gonna be on the back of the scoreboards?
As big as they are, the whole state of Michigan may be on the back.
Only the Block M, not that banned "Michigan" scripted through it. Please. . . .
GBOD!
I second that!
Preach!!!
I was wondering the same. I would go with "yes".
Man, those are going to look awesome. Having been to other stadiums with jumbotrons (e.g., Auburn), they really do enhance the gameday experience. I remember having to squint real hard to determine whether or not Armando Allen stepped out of bounds in the '09 game (for any Irish fans reading...yes, he was out). If only I hadn't graduated in April...
At least you were able to see a replay in the Big House. If you were in ND Stadium, you couldn't see squat because they don't even have a video board.
and earlier in the summer they had a non-stop discussion for a couple weeks straight concerning Jumbotrons and Field Turf. LIterally no actual football talk whatsoever. I almost feel bad for the more modern ND fans because I think ND has a bigger bluehair problem than we do. "That's not ND," "we don't need to be like everybody else," etc. and the posts were almost carbon-copy of our night game/maize jerseys/rawk music posts of yore.
Good looking out! So, here is the remaining riddle...
At the screen shot, you'll note a bunch of "posts" rising vertically on the substructure level above the (currently existing) scoreboard. Those "posts" have been there for a while (yup, I visit the webcam frequently), but on the aerial photos from yesterday, the posts aren't there. I thought maybe the aerial photos were of the south board, but seems not to be the case. Oh well, remains a (not very important) mystery. Thanks for the update!
Going by these everyday fails to make them seem smaller. At first I was impressed by the six support pillars going up, then the width and height of the framework and now the installation of the panels. These are going to be impressive.
Cannont wait to see those babies lit up at night.
I check Mgoblog so much it interferes with me getting anything done. Now I have the same compulsion with checking the webcam of the north side scoreboard. I watching the webcam today as they put up a section of video screen thinking will I make it 45 days. Yea, you’ve done this before, only 45 days to sweat release. Now how can I get those construction workers to all wear winged helmets?
only 45 days to sweat releaseOld Spice does the job for me, but any modern sports stick should work.
I cannot wait to see replays of Denard embarassing defenses at the Big House!!
going to be gargantuan. Too bad I could only watch the webcam at night, and a live feed of an idle scoreboard is boring stuff.
Finished Product will have time circuits for Denard.
Since when is there a lens flare tool in MS Paint??? (this would be the spot where I put in the smiley emoticon, you know, if I was a smiley emoticon kinda guy)
Good stuff as always...
No Hoke pointing?
So these are going to double as the lights for the night game, right?
Yes. Check out this article regarding Tennessee's new stadium. http://www.volunteertv.com/sports/headlines/53102717.html
"On Wednesday night, downtown Knoxville and the UT Campus were treated to a lightshow from the HD board which measures 124 feet long and 37 feet tall.
Only colors were being shown on the giant board, but they were bright enough to illuminate the whole stadium. Callers to the WVLT Volunteer TV newsroom reported the colors could be seen as far away as Bearden Hill in West Knoxville."
And we have 2.
This is the unfinished piece of the puzzle that will really enhance the viewing experience at the Big House. It surprises me that it took this long to do what many programs had done years ago. From replays to scores of other games, this should really be a game changer. Can't wait to see it for the ND game.
The backs of the scoreboards are going to be a beautiful addition, as well as the video boards. Awe.
A good morning for scoreboard watching, as two more sections were installed.
