Scenario: what happens if we win-out?
I'd like to propose this scenario and get a general discussion back . My buddy and I were arguing about Hoke's future and we couldn't agree. So what say you MGOBLOG nation?
The scenario (as unlikely as it may be) :
Hoke and company win out. This means we beat Penn State under the lights. We beat both Sparty and Ohio on the road. We thus finish 8-4 and and likely second in our division as the winner of the MSU/OSU game will likely finish with only one conference loss. In this scenario would Hoke keep his job?
I argued yes. He would have beaten both main rivals on the road. Won 6 straight. And more importantly finished with 8 wins which we kind of assumed from the beginning of the season that's where we'd end up.
My buddy argues nothing can save Hoke due to concussion gate.
My rebuttal is time heals all wounds and if he wasn't fired immediately there's still a chance. Plus there's no home run coach lined up to succeed him.
Humor me and chime in.
edit: I should mention that this was initially sparked by the topic of whether Hoke really is a "dead man walking" or if we are all just saying that because we want it to be true. We were trying to come up with a scenario in which he would keep his job and this, and only this, was my conclusion whereas my friend thinks nothing can right the ship. ... and I'll let everyone on the secret, we posted this to actually prove a point as well. We've noticed how deplorable this MGoBoard has become and were taking 'bets' on how many downvotes and negative, asinine comments we would gather by morning. All this despite having a CLEAR, LEGIBLE title, so if the topic didn't interest you, one could not click on it. So yeah, I guessed about 80% negative comments. Seems I'm pretty close.

If the Wolverines run the table the rest of the year, Brady Hoke will get at least another year. Then again, if I win Powerball on Wednesday, I will be able to buy whatever I want, whenever I want.
I am guessing I have a better chance of winning Powerball than the Wolerines do of running the table the rest of the year.

I'm buying lots and lots of macaroni and cheese. I love that stuff. I'll even splurge and buy the Kraft kind with the already pre-made cheese ooze.

but almost impossible. That is a terribly strong word; however, as proven by ND's unlikely run just a few short seasons ago, and possibly another one this year.
I can list the reasons which I am going to do tomorrow. And everyone will be happy to know there won't be any personalities involve so no one will have to chose sides regardless of whether they like Brady, hate LC, have conflicting feelings of RR, whatever. Well a little will have to be mentioned about each, but nothing to do with their personalities or coaching abilities. It does, however, have everything to do with Michigan football and how until the denial at the very top, but shared by others wielding power, all football related, we will remained sentenced to this less than mediocre product which has all the talent it needs to witness drastic improvement within 7 days, but until acceptance of what has been holding us back, will continue. I have been debating making this post, but it can be summed up in one word and no the word is not hubris or arrogance. Think Sam Cooke.October 7th, 2014 at 5:13 AM ^

The run-on sentence in the third paragraph is awesome. I keep thinking it's gonna end, and it's just keeps going until the end of the world. So let me get this straight. You are posting about a post you will write in the future and giving us hints about how good it's going to be? Who is this Wolfman, and why does he think we care about what he writes? Especially when he has zero command of the english language. If your amazing post can be summed up in one word, then just reply one word. That would save some damage and possibly the children. Thanks for your support!

I'm always up for a good hypothetical, so sure, I'll play.
Win out, and Hoke stays. By going 8-4 and with road wins against MSU and OSU, he would have achieved a record that many people would have found acceptable even before the season began. Plus, he can show progress. He can get up in the end-of-the-season presser and claim, "See? My boys are finally getting it." He'll have a winning record, two signature wins, and be bowl eligible (although I would argue that how they perform in the bowl will also factor into the decision.) Plus, the fan base can breathe a sigh of relief in the off-season. They get bragging rights over East Lansing and Columbus, and now get to believe that their hope for the future is based in reality.
Concussion-gate would be viewed as a severe case of bumbling, both on the field and at the podium in the days after. Stupid and embarrassing, but with no real malicious intent. I would submit that time doesn't necessarily heal all wounds, but winning often does.
Of course, I would also submit that with this team, that wouldn't be a miracle - it would be more of a resurrection. And to paraphrase a line from a musical comedy I once saw: in the history of the world there's only been one resurrection, and it wasn't a football team.

As time goes on it becomes more and more apparent that Michigan football is not what we thought it was, not what we wish it was, not what it once was, not what we want it to be. Gone are the days of the Juggernaut, days which truth be known ended in the Schembechler era, and occasionally reared its head with his immediate successor’s. We have held on hoping and wishing, but in truth this has just been false hope.
Perhaps yet another football messiah will come, perhaps not. I for one increasingly think not. In the affairs of men there shall always be one conqueror. Someone always wins. Even the great Bo only twice won the big prize, the elusive Rose Bowl Championship, and never once went undefeated, to lay claim to the mythical national Championship. We remember what wasn’t and wish for what never will be.
Our gods are shown for what they are, fallible humans, for even champions die. We all shall die, be it today or in one hundred years. Let us put aside the worship of these false gods and worship the one true God, Jehovah, the maker of heaven and earth. These false gods shall always disappoint, but there is one in whom we shall never be disappointed, the true maker of heaven and earth. Let us worship him alone.

There is no chance, I'll be surprised if we are within 14 points of either team. While I am sick of losing to MSU & OSU, I think we need a coaching change. Winning these two games would only add confusion.

this Miracle on the Huron there is no sense in pondering the scenario. Only Fontes himself can lead the Charge of the Desperate.
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Huron
Rode the winged one hundred.
"Forward, Wolverines!
"Charge for the Quarterback!" he said:
Into the valley of touchdowns and penalties
Rode the one hundred Wolverines

Yup. Starting to prepare myself for this as well, because the feeling is just creeping in. Brandon successfully outwaits the rage and the news cycle, Hoke either stays or is replaced by Cam fucking Cameron. Just another instance of a member of the oligarchy showing the masses where they stand, and deliberately rubbing it in their faces in the process.

Brandon is gone, man. There is no way they can keep him after the fiasco the University went through re: Morris' concussion. Had they handled it properly it would have been over in an evening. Instead they just made everything 10x worse.
IF and that is a very big IF - Hoke manages to win out then he'll get a chance to stay. I would love nothing more than to win out, but honestly we're looking more like 2-10, maybe we squeak out another one against a lesser team and go 3-9.

what if Star Wars was real? like, what if, in the 13 Billion year history of the billions of galaxies out there in the universe, there actually is a galaxy with Coruscant, Tatooine, Kashyyyk, etc. The Force, lightsabers, TIE fighters, the whole thing.
A lightsaber would be cool.

I see no way that clown doesn't get fired, so the new AD will come in and see a coach whos team seemed to be getting worse year-to-year only to run off a miracle winning streak. I think a new AD might can him anyway. It's not like 9-4 with a 5th yr sr QB, 1st rd WR, and a defense that should be very good is anything to write home about
