(rumor) Braxton Miller reinjured shoulder, season MAY be in jeopardy
This is not good. Here's to a full recovery.
I remember when I was driving to AA to hear some freshman named Chad Henne was starting because his hometown paper broke the story before kickoff due to a Matt G. injury.
Who knows if their backup QB isn't a future NFL starter.
I AM GROOT
I love you, please stay forever
I AM GROOT
The funny thing is that I am actually groot. That's the phonetic pronunciation of my last name...
Best novelty account ever!
is so 5 minutes ago....
What is going on here, if this is true seems like every single team on our schedule is losing an important player
OUR BAGMEN HAVE STARTED CARRYING BRICKS IN THEIR BAGS
Feel awful for the kid, especially if he was just getting back to full participation. Ugh.
This kid sure has a lot of shoulders.
According to 11W he's out for the season.
They don't have any other information, just seems like that poster was a little hysterical in his title.
The story is from the Columbus Dispatch and the source is supposedly reputable.
Right, just saying that the article says he's potentially out, while the poster is making it sound like OSU has told everyone he's out for sure. Certainly doesn't look good for him at the moment.
Other than a couple of people running with the story, there is no other information on 11 W.
For Braxton's sake, I hope this turns out to be only a rumor. I really hate to see a talent like Miller go down this way. The guy plays his heart out every time he is on the field. We lose as a conference if this is true.
Their site appears to be crashing. Must make it true.
Tim May is usually a pretty reliable source. Shit shit shit shit shit.
BIG Ten East is wide open now...
a big favorite to win B1G East....
Probably the favorite but their defense is going to take a step back.
Even if they do, the offense is going to take a step forward...
Can offenses step forward? It has been so long since I saw that happen.
MSU has a better offense when I see it.
Drummond, Waynes, Jones and Calhoun. All studs.
Don't say that! They'll feel disrespected.
I think this narrows it down significantly if the worst case scenario for Ohio State plays out.
Actually this, if true, makes MSU the clear cut favorite.
Throwing injury I can understand based on a kid wanting to play.
watching film of Frank Clark and fear overtook his shoulder?
and return once Clark is off to the NFL.
If true, that's terrible for him, particularly with the hype he's receiving going into this season.
We are better than that.
Maybe I haven't been paying attention since you've been around here a while, but your avatar is awesome.
As much as I dislike that team, you always have to feel for a kid who gets hit with a season ending injury. Terrible stuff. Hopefully he recovers well.
Damn, if only they had Kenny Guiton. What are their backups like? I know Cardale Jones should know the play book by now since he's only there for football
Indicates RS Frosh Barrett moved ahead of the Soph Jones last week.
i hope he plays this year - rather not see that dude as redshirt senior
This is like the anti 2013. No Michigan injuries besides for Butt so far and Northwestern, ND, and Ohio all having major losses in personel.
You shut your whore mouth.
on recruiting trips next?
Tomorrow 5 starters will tear all of their CLs and you will go down in MGoLore
I just realized who I replied to.
Thadmattasagoblin, I swear to everything good in this world. I will find you if you have jinxed us again.
For the love of god Thad don't do this again.
didnt utah lose somebody too?
A fucking curse. Shut up.
Have you learned nothing?!!!!!
after the fuckery "Owl stood by me" pulled. Here you are back at it again.
Miss this season too?!
He was fun to root against.
Who is their next guy? guiton is gone, isn't he?
Sucks for him. I don't wish injuries on anyone.
He aint come to play school.
This is a beautiful post.
JT Barrett (redshirt freshman) is the backup, although I think he's going to be on a short leash. It's been pretty close between him and Cardale all summer.
Just wanted to say that I am now upvoting all of your posts as long as you have that sig line. The screen name and avatar are pretty sweet, too.
From the article:
But it likely means that redshirt-freshman J.T. Barrett will be the starter when the Buckeyes open the season against Navy on Aug.30 in Baltimore. Barrett moved ahead of sophomore Cardale Jones late last week in the competition for the No.2 spot behind Miller, Meyer and offensive coordinator Tom Herman said.
Really sucks for Miller. I feel terrible for him as he was so close to making it back. Hope he recovers well. Next man up for Ohio State.
...but next man up is going to get crushed by Jake MF Ryan.
Tough break for the kid...as for the team (for which I feel infinitely less sympathy), their offense will still function against bad teams if Braxton is out but will struggle against better teams...hopefully so bad they miss Joe Bauserman...
I'm kind of impressed with the quadruple nonquadruple post...
I feel bad for the kid, he probably should have gone pro. But, I couldn't be more giddy about this. Screw OSU.
Still got another year of eligibility, though.
He'll be in Columbus longer than Scott Tolzien was in Madison
He almost went pro before this year. I'd be surprised if he stuck it out much longer when he has millions waiting for him.
they pay 5th round fliers on wide receiver potential millions?
Braxton Miller's Bauserman like passing acumen was always going to limit his ability to be drafted as a QB in the NFL.
guy would be great with my Tiger Cats tho
We have a pretty good idea how much a running QB who's converting to WR and is taken in the 5th round will make: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/denard-robinson/
4 years, $2.4 million. Not too shabby.
In addition, I've seen Miller projected as a 3rd-6th round pick as a QB prior to his injury. For what that's worth.
hate to see anybody, friend or foe, have a season-ending injury.
Besides, I'd love to see Michigan beat OSU at full strength. OSU's biggest problem, obviously, is that the QB is quite possibly their thinnest position, depth-wise, AND experrience-wise.
I feel absolutely terrible for the kid. As for the fans, I give them a big FU.
Sucks for Braxton. I'd have really like to have seen this year's Michigan's D get a revenge matchup against him.
Miss you Stanely XOXOXO.
Brain looks like a genius drafting Hackenberg now. Funny thing is that I was talking about Miller's shoulder with a guy I work with who's a Buckeye fan.
That's why we call him Brain.
What do you want to do tonight?
same thing we do every night Picktown, try to take over the BigTen
Devin Smith's foot, Taylor Decker's ankle, Jeff Heuerman's knee, Michael Bennett's hip, Joey Bosa's back, and Curtis Grant's ribs.
I almost feel worse for the kid they had backing him up who always seemed to play well when given a shot, could have had a whole year to prove it if this is all true.
urrently proving his skills with the LA Kiss of the Arena League...
For as great of an athlete he is, Braxton seems to get hurt very easy. Sucks for them. Hope he's back for "the game".
When people say this, do you actually mean it? I mean come on, Devin played with a broken foot and there's no asterisk next to that loss that says well Michigan could have won if. I like wining I don't care what strength the other team is at. It's football no one is at full strength by November.
Can't speak for other people, but I wanna whoop that ass full strength so there's no excuses. We should have won the last two years in my opinion. Borges happened in the second half of 2012 and we all know what happened last year. I just don't fear those guys, Braxton or not.
There are no excuses either way.
If Braxton isn't out there for that game and we win, Buckeye fans will scream about not having their best player on the field. That's just how it goes. If you feel a different way cool, but I want our best to go against their best and see who comes out on top.
I feel differently about practice injuries, particularly in fall camp. You can't help but feel bad for a kid that's probably worked very hard all offseason, only to miss out. In season, game injuries...I don't wish for them, but they seem more like crap happens, particularly when a team runs their QB as much as ohio does. As far as wishing him back... I do for him, I don't for Michigan.
I mentioned once that worries about Braxton's health made shit run down the legs of my Buckeye friends. Think it's now a geyser.
You mean now it's spraying out from the top of their shorts?
Right into their coolers.
You mean now it's spraying out from the top of their shorts?
legend has it that a certain fan would always tell his wife "Bring me my Red shirt!"
When asked about the pride he felt about his ritual, he responded, "You're kidding, right? This is Columbus. If I get into a fight, I don't want anyone to be able to tell if I'm bleeding."
It is rumoured that this year he will request "Bring me my brown pants!"
At least it happened before the season so he can redshirt (if he is in fact out for the season). Would suck even worse if this happened in their first game or something.
I can't stand the Buckeyes and I definitely want Michigan to beat them but I do hope he's okay and will be able to compete sometime in the future.
Wish the kid the best of luck. Here's to a speedy recovery if it's true.
If he is hurt, pretty sure that Ohio won't skip a beat. If I recall, they have a stable of good young QBs... Plus their schedule is pretty weak, so it'll give the backup time to develop.
I'm pretty sure they'll skip a best losing the best player they have.
They lost pryor heading into 2011 who had 3 years of experience. They had miller who was a highly ranked recruit.
They were one of the worst passing teams in the country. The last team in front Army and Navy who throw the ball twice a game, for most of the season.
They WILL skip a beat. They'll skip many games they could've won with miller.
I'm telling you and I've been tweeting it for months. Navy is beating them. I'm very confident in my pick now.
but I just have the feeling OSU can probably 'plug n play' with QBs because their offensive system is that good. Kenny Guiton came in last year and obliterated people. I have a hunch they'll be fine
Except they won't be Braxton. Heisman candidates they will not be. Run for 200 yards against teams they will not be. They have a shaky back seven and now will have pains under center.
Guiton was a senior who was pretty highly regarded in his own right. Barrett is a freshman.
He was a 2* when committed I believe and finished as the #35 Dual-Threat QB to rivals. He was absolutely a no one and I remember mgobloggers chuckling when he committed
Between this and Notre Dame... I SMELL BLOOD IN THE WATER. Fresh off of Shark Week, too.
I couldn't care less if we win without them being at full strength, they all kicked us when we were down. The time is NOW.
I remember buckeye fans always saying how a running QB will get injured when talking about Denard...
A lot of dogs gettin kicked in Ohio tonight.
If true, it really, really sucks for the kid. But I also really, really want their fans to feel the pain.
Screw Urban. Biggest sleeze in the country. Sucks for Braxton but it's not going to ruin my Saturdays, so who gives a damn. Don't think he is getting any hardware this year. Time for hoke to capitalize and win some big games.
It will be interesting to see the extent of the injury and whether he can still be an effective dual-threat.
Or...if he will even return to OSU: https://twitter.com/dpbrugler/status/501543586668621824
I just signed on to twitter and saw my Sparty co workers celebrating it, I sign on here and have seen nothing but well wishes... Actually he claims he is disgusted because we cheered when Stanton was hurt.
Obviously, I want him to be healthy every week, and do his best every week but one. I hope he recovers quick, and hopefully can have a great NFL career.
Please don't compare mgoblog to twitter.
Was reading the Braxton thread on there before the site went down. They have a post talk about how mgoblog is turning on itself. They aren't far from the truth. Can't wait for the winning to start and the whining to stop...
Those guys focus on Michigan a ton over there. There's always multiple threads about Michigan. A thread about our UTL jerseys had 130 comments, easily the most on that day by a wide margin. It's a real obsession. I believe they know we're coming back to form and it scares the shit out of them.
What are you talking about? Our offense didn't dominate our defense, while our defense was dominating our offense at the same time, in a scrimmage! Doom!!
That Spartee fans would do such a thing
Still hate that guy.
There are no excuses whether Braxton plays or not. A win is a win.
Obviously there's zippo for data/detail. My impression, however, would be that something like this would be an issue all season.
Stinks for OSU as their offense really is going to rely on him. Sure they have a lot of toys, but they're quite diminished if the QB isn't good. In contrast, they'd have been able to deal with it better last year with a grade A line and running back.
Feel bad for the kid. Hopefully, he can rehab and pursue his NFL dream.
Do not feel bad for Bucknuts...as said above...they loved kicking us when we were down. On paper, they could be in for a rough season.
"Website is offline"
all over the server.
It says it puts his playing status in question. What does that mean?
Does it mean the first game or the year? It can be taken either way. I don't think they know the extent of the injury.
He's been a good sport and a great competitor.
To me, he's been a classy adversary.
Don't Really Care, Just Play The Games
That's gotta be worth something...
You meant "worriers", right? Oh, and I'm guessing there are more than 11 of them.
Okay, a request for full disclosure amid the many classy posts in this thread:
What was your honest emotional response to seeing this? I'm talking about the first thing that went through your mind/body.
If I'm honest, mine was pleasant surprise. I'm not proud of that, but any "Man, that's a shame" from me is really forced. I hope the guy has a great life... and that I never see him in an OSU uniform again.
Exactly Turd. This is our biggest rival who has whooped our ass for the last decade. We build confidence and take wins however we can get them until we surpass them again.
I feel bad for Miller. I do not feel bad for Ohio State.
I'm glad someone said it.
First and current thought I have is a lot worse than yours regarding the issue and that team.
Urban Meyer is a tool
I feel bad for him, not so much for Ohio State. He has worked so hard and got to a level where he was a preseason favorite for the Heisman trophy and a future in the NFL to missing his senior year within a year.
I've strongly dislike several buckeye players, especially QBs, but have nothing against Braxton. Seems line a nice enough guy, is incredibly hard-working, and is a great athlete. Hope he is able to recover enough to make a solid draft run.
I was gleeful for the pain I hope OSU fans will feel. Total warm fuzzies.
I also honestly felt really sorry for the kid. Who knows what kind of pressure he's been under from the OSU industrial complex to "get healthy" and win that Heisman. I understand that athletes at this level know that type of scrutiny is part of the deal, but still, it must really suck to be him tonight.
But I'm mostly waiting for someone to GIF that crying Brazilian kid from the World Cup and photo shop OSU gear all over him. I will play that shit on endless loop...
I don't wish injury for Miller but I don't at all feel sorry for Meyer or their asshole fans.
My first reaction was that Michigan will definitely win in Columbus this year.
My second reaction is that Michigan is going to the playoff.
Honest thought.... Tough break for the kid. At the same time I just want to see Meyer have to face adversity when it comes I a depth chart. The man walked into a great situation and has made the best of it.
He's like the Phil Jackson of college football. Now I'm curious to see what he will do with a potentially (now) average offense and an above average defense. Will he succeed? Or will Espn make 1,000 excuses for him come seasons end. Other coaches (Fitz, Dantonio, possibly Hoke) have done more with less when it comes to a lack experience and depth. What will the '14-15 nuts look like under Meyer and a now young, relatively inexperienced offense?
Also pleasant surprise, but I do genuinely wish the injury had been something that would keep him out through The Game and then he could fully recover from (like Denard's forearm nerve thing, for example), rather than something that could effectively end his career.
So they are looking at possibly breaking in a first year starter at QB, and they will be fielding a fairly inexperienced OL?
Welcome to our 2013 world, Ohio.
expect him to rehab as much as possible and return maybe late in the season. He has 12 weeks to heal before The Game and still get a little rust off.
Wish him well ... until Frank chases him off the edge.
Is it Groot?
If this helps us win, I will take it. May he make a full recovery this December.
It's going to be ugly...it's going to full of excuses from other teams because they won't be full strength...but in the end, it's going to happen!
I have no doubt that Meyer will rival Izzo in the excuse making. He'll also lay blame on the team if their season goes completely south and ESPN will exclaim how great of a man he is for being willing to coach such incompetents. Just watch.
There are way too many question marks left on UM's team to assume misfortune ona few other teams will vault them to undefeated status. I had 9 - 3 with 1 of 3 vs the rivals. Odds have improved vs. two of them, but its a bit premature to put UM at 12 - 0. Sparty was and still is the toughest game on the schedule and OH & ND aren't done.
I go run five miles and come back to this. I am sure he will be back for The Game if not sooner.
Go back and run another 5 miles.
Let's see if something else happens.
You might be bringing really good luck.
Sign him up for a friggin marathon. Or better yet, start training for an Ironman!!
But im sure we will hear how their back up is way better anyway!
11W poster said his source who saw practice said he went down in pain after a no contact throw.
Sounds like Henne's sr year injury.
They're still dangerous though.
I thought Henne injured his shoulder during a game (Oregon?) after getting sacked.
He giveth (Lebron) and he taketh.
he wanted but I wonder if Chad Lindsay is second guessing his decision.
Right now he is slated as a backup on the depth chart. Wonder if that factors into his regrets.
...but he will soon enough. When we roll in The Toilet Bowl and hang 40 on them again with over 200 yards rushing and a 14 point win.......then it will be complete.
I think this is pretty cut and dry.
Shoulder = OSUredhl. OSU Red Home loss. They will clearly piece together a red retro getup for the game, only to suffer a home loss. Now where did I put those poppy seeds...
Urban Meyer = Amen, rebury
I dont know what the f*** sort of witch doctor Dantonio employs but that man scares me. They go basically injury free for past 18 mo and key players from UM, OSU, Oregon go down - Oregon lost its top WR to ACL this spring and LT this past week. Now Braxton. Dantonio damn you.
...is a hell of a drug.
for letting this quarterback situation happen?
In reality he might be more than Hoke is.
They worship that dude.
and returning Hesiman winner to beat Lloyd Carr in the Capital One Bowl.
Starting 24-2, and being on the hotseat? No way, not more than Hoke. OSU has a fairly easy schedule this year, and they'd have to have a Horror themselves before Urban's chair got above butt temperature.
While I agree that his record is something to behold, they've had a couple of almost-horrors since he took over.
My thoughts are I feel bad for the kid. I wouldn't wish injuries on anyone, not even a rival. So I wish him the best for a recovery.
But I do take delight in the Buckeye fans pain. After a decade of sleezeball Tressel getting them free tattoos, cars, hookers along with those wins, a slap on the wrist thanks to their athletic director's connections and Pryor keeping his mouth shut, then Urban Meyer just falling into their laps thanks to insanely good timing...it's long past time America's worst fan base got some bad karma.
OT Years ago there was a sign on I-70 that proclaimed Huber Height (home of Braxton Miller) "America's largest community of brick homes". Wonder if that is still, or ever was, true.
If Braxton Miller is out, Ohio State returns 19.1% of their rushing yards and 0.1% of their passing yards.
I don't think anyone feels sorry or is sad for OSU and definitely not the fan base. If your a former/current athlete you don't like to see guys go down. Especially for season ending type injuries. It's a lot of sacrifice and hard work that gets put in to being an elite playmaker on this level.
And let's please not compare Mgoblog and our fan base to that of what they have going on down there. If this was DG, they would be popping champagne and cracking jokes on 11 warriors. We show class and do things a little different up this way. It's how it's always been since I've been around and shouldn't change tonight with this news.
Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerCBS
Braxton was throwing a basic out route in a non-contact drill, grabbed his arm/shoulder area, said he felt something, they took him off
Excellent tweet Alum96. He most likely tore something and was never that close to 100%. Rehab will be a long and difficult process.
an injury a pitcher might get, like torn rotator cuff.
I saw the heading at 11W, with more than 150 comments. When I clicked through, the site melted down. Can't get on. I don't think he'll be able to come back . . . what are you going to do? Tell opposing defenses to take it easy and not hit him hard? He's a marked man.
QB news in Ohio, Washington just tied up MNF and there might be an extra quarter of watching Cleveland's mess.
OSU fans probably didn't give two shits when they beat us in '07 without Hart or Henne, and I'm sure they didn't give two shits about beating us in '08 when our offense was an absolute tire fire. So I don't feel bad for them.
It would all depend on how many coolers were available.
Hard to imagine him out for the season. Anyway, OSU's upcoming night games (Virginia Tech, Penn State, Sparty, etc.) should be interesting.
11 warriors is banging. I couldn't even get on the site!
First off, hope for a solid recovery for Braxton.
That said, I'm interested to see how Urban know deals with a thin depth chart at QB.
Call me crazy but I thought Kenny G. was a better all around QB than Miller. Miller has more big play potential, but Kenny was prone to less mistakes. If Jim was still coach I think Kenny G would have had much more consideration as a starter.
Now that he is gone it'll be interesting to see how Meyer molds a team around a freshman or another young guy. ohio is still loaded with plenty I talent, but with a young line and new RB this injury surely hurts.
"Now that he is gone"
A little premature, no?
I believe he was referring to Guiton.
I know this story. He's held out of the first six games, comes back and wins out (or nearly) turning in a super hero worthy performance against Michigan. You think Aaron Craft was gritty? Wait til you see Braxton 2.0.
I don't like to be cynical. In fact I am a glass half-full girl, but I've seen too many of these doomsday scenarios for our opponents turn out in their favor.
Agreed. Too many times luck seems to favor Michigan's opponents.
Elevenwarriors forum is like this...
And the evil side of me is like this...
He's probably a hurtin' buckaroo right now
Don't care. How is our OL doing. All I care about.
Takes time to let strangers know.
Did any Buckeye fans feel sorry for Devin Gardner when he played much of the Ohio game with a broken foot?
As a human being, I hope for Miller's full recovery and that he has a great life. But in the world of sports kayfabe, I am not going to have too much sympathy if Ohio plays a backup all year and goes 7-5 with a loss to Michigan.
Didn't Braxton sit out a few games last year, early in the season? I vaguely remember some kid coming in and nearly breaking some records and the media tried to make something of the starting position. I could be wrong though. 7-5? I'll take the over.
Now I can get my hopes up and start my passive aggressive banter with Buckturds
he was pretty talented. But he graduated. . .Of course I could be wrong. But Guiton is the one who stood out last year. . .
Agreed. Injuries suck but I'd never feel bad for Ohio.
You really have to wonder if Urbans esophagus can take this kind of blow.
There's a "That's what she said!" joke in there somewhere...
Braxton told his teammates last night that if the MRI comes back with bad news, he will be returning next year. (I got few friends on the team unfortunately haha)
Gil Brandt of NFL.com tweeted that after the MRI, OSU expects Braxton to be out the entire season.
