Rudock is now QB2 for the Lions

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

One Stafford injury away from starting...............and going the Tom Brady route when Bledsoe got injured.

That all went down in Brady's second season as a pro................2017 is Rudock's second.

I'm not saying Stafford is a top 5 Quarterback. In my thought he is a boarderline top 10ish QB, but he isn't awful and I don't think he is the main issue with this team. The Lions lack talent everywhere. PFF grades only him and Prater in the top 10 of their position group. The Lions don't have an Elite player at any position (including QB).

The Lions also didn't have a linebacker record a sack, fumble, or interception last year. That's just insane. They're severly lacking in the talent department. Stafford has come a long way and was having his best year last season. I'm hopeful for the future with Quinn in charge of the roster and Stafford taking his game to the next level. Unfortunately, I just don't think he has the elite accuracy of a top five QB. He's top 10 though and really the best thing the Lions have going for them.

Brady and Belichick are the poor man's Caldwell and Rudock.  See ya in seven Super Bowls Lions fans!  Oh and ............... ! (<- periods are for dramatic effect!)

Great for Jake. Hopefully, he will eventually be a starting QB somewhere in the league. Not likely to be in Det., However, anytime soon. He should go to NE as a free agent and take over when Brady retires in 2029.

Part of me still wants to believe that Jared Allen was chasing after him to warn Orlovsky of impending danger. As in, shouting, "THE LINE! YOU'RE ABOUT TO GO OVER THE LINE!", but sadly, he could not convince our intrepid QB that peril lurked mere inches from his feet.

Then, I was sober again and 2008 hurt again.

I thought Jake looked better than Orlovsky in the preseason last year, but I understood why they kept Dan around for a year to have experience over talent.  Good for Jake and the Lions for making this move now and the best of luck to him!

Also, Stafford isn't the problem.  He has better stats than Super Bowl champions like Big Ben or Russell Wilson, but isn't afforded an elite defense or running game.  The Lions at one point in the season were down to two healthy linebackers (both backup quality) and at best an average defensive line.  I'm hoping in time, Bob Quinn can fix that.  If not, then maybe blow it up after that.

whose sanity I question. He is a very good QB. Is he great? No. But then those are few and far between. But solely or even mainly blaming for the Lions ineptitude is utterly ridiculous. The Lions went 9-7 primarily because of him. Their defense lacked talent, the OL was young, they had no running game, and the receivers dropped the most balls of any team in the league. That they made the playoffs was a minor miracle considering how deficient in talent their roster was. I am ecstatic for Jake, but to think that he is Tom Brady is quite frankly deranged. Brady is GOAT and the fact that he was drafted in the sixth round makes it amazing. His career is unlike any other QB I can recall. Comparing Rudock to him is incredibly unfair to Rudock. Let Jake be Jake whatever that is at the NFL level.

If Stafford has a career like Bledsoe (who was a damn fine QB), and Rudock has a career like Brady.  Shoot, I'd settle for Rudock having a career like Russell Wilson.

There one small problem with this scenario.  On one side of the ledger we have Bill Belichick, and on the other side of the ledger with have Jim Schwarz or Jim Caldwell.  Now, if Jim Harbaugh was to coach the Lions (NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)...

Great for Rudock! He's honestly one of the smarter quarterbacks I have seen play even though I do not think he is as physically gifted as the elite ones. I think he will be successful.

Stafford is physically elite but is definitely missing something in his play. Killer instinct to put teams away? Situational awareness? Not sure what it is.

For example take Matt Ryan in the Super Bowl. Excellent stats, crazy efficient, but two crucial bad plays. The fumble when he got hit by Hightower was not from his blindside so you could argue he should have pulled the ball down and taken the sack (or thrown it away) since he could see the rusher coming. Then the sack he took when they were in field goal range to probably (Matty) ice the game. If he was paying attention to the situation he would have been quick to throw it away at even the hint of pressure.

I just constantly feel like Stafford is making plays like that to ruin all his excellent stats and play besides those moments.

And I don't say that in a negative way. Same with Brian Griese. He's an awesome teammate, he'll be a coach on the sideline, he's not a threat to your superstar - but he may be able to get you a W in a pinch.

I would take him as a backup 10 times out of 10. I wouldn't surprise me if he's in the league until he's 30.
