Rivals Spring “Game” day
For those who care - OSU (almost over), PSU, and then MSU all have their spring games televised on Big Ten network today.
Thought this could serve for notes and comments for those who choose to watch… I am curious to see the QB play for all 3 teams
Now Catching the tail-end of the OSU game. It is a modified scoring O vs. D system 1s vs 1s etc.
Notes so far -
Marvin Harrison Jr. remains good - will probably be even more key to their O this year. (Didn’t see Ebuka - sp?- maybe he is hurt.)
Running O not super impressive in this game from the little I have seen. (Was going to chalk this up to OL dilution between two teams before I heard it was 1 v 1)
CJ Stroud >>>>>> Kyle McCord (I remember Stroud looked meh in is first Spring game as the starter but McCord doesn’t seem to be in the same zip code from what I saw today.)
Maybe the new OSU defense is just that good in year 2 under Knowles?……
PS - for those who don’t want to waste a nice spring Saturday I noticed one of the YouTube sites (“Matthew loves ball” or “Wheels” I would guess) did a nice highlights package on the M spring game so they may do the same for these..
Why am I just hearing about this now?
Agreed, but to be fair, both were posted just minutes apart. Once the toothpaste is out of the tube there's no putting it back in.
Hearing loss, maybe?
There's apparently been a lot OSU insider buzz that OSU staff is genuinely worried about the OL this year. They lost a lot on the OL and they don't really have anyone stepping up rn
It’s a big talking point down here. Their spring interviews this week on 97.1 and Days comments are worried about OL play. Here’s hoping for more regression!
Just when I thought OSU has a better defense, they gave up a long run on the ground that went to the house, like what Donovan did to them, except it was one of their own guys. Looks like they have the same glaring weakness there as well. Here's hoping for more stagnation on their run defense.
It looked like Donovan Edwards, but slow. LB went to the wrong gap and a bad angle from the safety took it from a 10-20 yard run to a house call. Trayanum isn’t that fast and still managed to outrun a DB.

And imagine how terribly underprepared a DL can be when they're not getting a Michigan experience from the OL in practice every week.
Run your little Michigan drill - toe touches leather at noon (sort of lol) on Thanksgiving in the Big House, bitch.

Here’s hoping Day has to do another year of DoorDash after 11/25/23.
A bad OLine vs our Dline? Me likey.

I fully expect just about all of their problems to be solved by the last Saturday in November. It’s historically how things have gone the last 20 years.
April 16th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
Yep. They’ll probably even solve a couple of them during this transfer window.
How many times has Michigan had the better QB in the last 15 years? It'd be outstanding if OSU had a mediocre QB.
Good qb with shitty o line would be fine too.
Penn State has a monopoly on this.
Who was their good quarterback?
Sean Clifford would’ve been an upgrade on most Michigan QBs of the last 15 years
Better than bad doesn’t equal good lol
Clifford and McSorley would have been good B1G QB’s behind UM’s current O-line.
Heisman caliber, OSU level, maybe McSorley with …but both were all B1G caliber while running around for their lives.

A lot of PSU fans don't like Clifford and it's genuinely weird. Dude gave his body to that team and fanbase, putting the team on his back the best he could, and fans still hate on him. Good luck with Allar being a statue behind that OL
Meanwhile, this PEnn State game is horrible especially since its 1s v 2s
McCord now: meh
McCord by The Game: running/passing machine
It always happens
The only good news: we seem to handle it better these days
Some history through recruiting profiles:
https://247sports.com/player/kyle-mccord-46047962/
#28 overall. Excellent, right? He got on board early, too (4/30/19).
Then, the mullet guy joined the party:

He committed in November of 2020.
That gave OSU two 5-star QBs and they both stayed in the class (at least into the next year). Where else does that happen? Where else has it ever happened? Never mind that Stroud was already on the team. Michigan, on the other hand, has had to deal with QB "shadows."
OSU is really due for many years of misfortune.
Ewers was using OSU for money. I don’t think he had any intention of staying there
No argument here, but I wouldn't guess that McCord new that in 2020.
Don't move my cheese. I'm totally cool with their current misfortunate of their shitty coaching and soft defense getting wore down then beatdown by perennial Joe Moore OL's.
Besides, McCord can't run. Stroud could, he's just was a prima-donna who didn't want to get hit. OSU's 5 star QB and WR's may be good enough to slice though 80% of their games, Michigan ain't one of them anymore.

OSU was also due for a year or two of Tate Martell as the starting QB then Justin Fields fell into their lap
Tate Martell... Where do I know that name from? I got it. He's the hated, full-of-himself, picket-line-crossing starter for the Washington Sentinels, right?
I wish our spring game was today. Wouldn't be fighting the final four and on a nice 80 degree day.
The only thing I'm jealous of is the date of their Spring Games...would be nice of Michigan to have theirs two weeks later. Couldnt ask for better weather today.

Indeed. OSU drew 72,000 paying customers
April 16th, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
From what I saw, it was a sparse 72k. The eye test would be around 50k, but impressive none the less.
I saw the title and jumped in to see what Rutgers was doing.

Same, but Illinois
Didn’t watch but listened to Snap Judgments and they are very concerned with QB and OLine pass blocking. Said they were surprised with the lack of throws, considering McCord doesn’t have a lot reps under his belt. Joy!
It would be nice if OSU took a step back in terms of quarterback prowess. Seems it's been awhile since they've had a complete dud.
Bad thing is that, they've had some crappy QBs who beat us. It's one thing to be beaten by a 5* Heisman candidate....it's even better to beat one. But to lose a game to the likes of dunno, Craig Krenzel, is just f*ck&ng ridiculous.
I don't want to give any of these m*th#f&ck@rs any credit for anything, but they sure picked a nicer day than we did for their spring games/practices/scrimmages/dog-and-pony-shows.
I'll take those snowy wins in November!!
Consider if you were them watching our spring game, and what you'd think.
And isn't McCord the QB OSU handpicked over McCarthy.... goes to show why they've never had a viable NFL QB. NOT ONE. fields doesn't count.
Jury is still out on Fields.
That said:
We drove up to Michigan for the spring game this year with the kids but ended up not going. We woke up and it was below freezing and crazy wind. The kids had no interest in that, but they really wanted to see the stadium. I really wish Michigan would have played this weekend, even last weekend would have been better.
April 15th, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
I don’t blame you, I live about a 10min walk from the stadium and the day of I was like eff that. It was miserable out.

Skull fuck session
