When/if it does take place, NFL insider Aaron Wilson of KPCR 2 Houston reports that Harbaugh would bring along Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and son Jay Harbaugh, who is the running backs/ assistant special teams coach.

Also weird when that article says Harbaugh knows Greg Roman because "Harbaugh's brother, of course, is the coach of the Ravens where Roman was last offensive coordinator" ...ignoring that JIM Harbaugh virtually made Greg's career first at Stanford, and then with the 49ers, rather than just knowing him tangentially through his brother. Seems sus.

Jay hasn't coached the RBs since before COVID. That also jumped out to me as weird.  Some FanNation sites, as some others have noted here, are basically a step above random fan's personal diary, it can be pretty mixed bag. That said, I think other sources are now reporting this, so we'll see.

Here's my overall coaching change take... yes losing Jim will be big. Jesse as well.  But sneaky important loss is Jay Harbaugh. He's been successful with every position group he's had... from RBs, to TEs, to now Safeties.  Plus Special Teams, like Uncle John who started as a Special Teams guy. People "sleep" on Jay because of his last name I think. He'd be a sneaky important loss if he goes too.

Like Brian mentioned on the pod recently, hopefully Jay looks to spread his wings and start to carve out a space in the coaching landscape of his own.

I remember on this board when Jim brought Jay in and people were upset as nepotism was coming into play. Fast forward, and unless he had help coaching each position, he was a DUDE. To your point, Jay didn’t get the credit he deserved and I think he will be a key piece that will be missed. He needs to carve his own path at this point, unless his goal was to coach in the NFL.

Agree from a Jay is awesome and sneaky good standpoint. Also agree from a career standpoint going out on his own makes sense.

However, from a life standpoint, what's the point unless you're that competitive? He gets to be around his Dad every day. He gets to have cousins/family support for his wife and his kids. Gets to be around his grandparents. Gets to make big $ without the stress of being the CEO. Lots to enjoy right now. Head coaching will be there if he's good enough, one way or the other.

I don't know Jay, so I won't proclaim to know what his goals in life are or what he values. But a young aspiring football coach is generally going to look to the "climb the ladder" because they're all that competitive.  Even if he has a great home life and family.

Here's what caught my eye: "Head coaching will be there if he's good enough, one way or the other." not to get too legalistic or nitpicky... but not really. A good example could be Mike McDonald and Jesse Minter. Both spent time as an analyst on the Ravens staff. In 2021, both went off to become a DC at a D1 school in a major conference.

One is now at the top of potential lists to be an NFL Head Coach. The other isn't being considered by the NFL as a HC at all. Why? Because in 2022, one went on to be highly successful at another D1 school, the other went on to be highly successful in the NFL.

Long metaphor short... Head Coaching won't just "be there" even if he's good enough. One could make an argument that Jesse is just as "good" as Mike. Hard to know. But MM has the experience. He did the extra steps to put himself in that position. Point being, you have to do the steps AND be good enough.

Also headline: "Jim Harbaugh Will Reportedly Bring Staff From Michigan To LA"

Text in article: "Harbaugh would bring along Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and son Jay Harbaugh..."

Actual tweet: "Per league sources, offensive coordinator could be Greg Roman, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh"

We go from "could" to "would" to "will"

This is speculation of the highest order.

Like Brian mentioned on mgoblog roundtable last week, if Jay knew what was best for him he’d stay. It’d be a good idea to finally get coaching experience that isn’t under a head coach who’s either his father or his father’s brother. Fair or not, teams will be hesitant to take a shot at him as a coordinator with the nepotism tag that’ll keep airing over his head if he continues to exclusively work for his father or uncle.

I also have wondered if he has any ambition beyond being an assistant for his father or uncle.

Another thing for him to consider--if he cares--is that while he's appreciated here, other fan bases cannot be trusted to look past the nepotism and properly judge him. The Chargers fans are already complaining that Jim will bring Jay who they believe almost single handedly brought down our championship season because of one bad game from special teams in the Rose Bowl.

Washington NFL fans never thought Kyle Shanahan was any good simply because he was the coach's son.

I think he enjoys being around his Dad, Grandpa, and nieces and nephews. Also having his kids around them too. That's a big draw.

He's a take at almost any school or NFL team as a position Coach. Maybe not any coaching position at any team of his choice, but if he wanted to go to the NFL he could get a position coach job. It's only a question if can he get a good college coordinator job without spreading his wings. I agree he likely doesn't care.

Not sure any of us have a better idea of "what would be best for Jay" than he does. Especially when our suggestions just happen — purely coincidentally, of course — to align with our own personal desires to have him stay here.

Jay, if following Jim to SoCal makes you happy, Godspeed and good luck. Life is short.

Interesting that Aaron has no idea that Jaybaugh is the special teams coordinator and coaches the safeties, but he's certain that he'll follow his dad to the NFL.

Someone texted me a few days ago and told me that Harbaugh was gone. A quick search revealed that the only person claiming it in that 30 second time period was Yoder. When it's done we will all have solid sources in seconds. Until then just don't do it.

Maybe he means he will coach rbs inline he did that before Mike got here, and his record was good having recruited the likes of Hassan Haskins, Zach charbonnet and Blake Corum.

"...when/if it does take place, MGoBoard insider rob f reports that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh will bring along his wife Sarah and their school-age children, all of whom are strongly rumored to be part of the "vast network". "

I heard an Insider say that Harbaugh was looking for ten (10) Disneyland admissions with Genie Plus passes while he's in southern California.

Any chance those are for his wife, parents, and kids joining him on the journey - plus a few "tag along" friends of the family?

Again - this was shared in strictest confidence - and, hopefully, no Advanced Scouting rules were violated by reporting this.

P.S. - I don't know about Minter's or Jay Harbaugh's family status - e.g. married, kids, etc.   But, I'm sure that Sherrone Moore's daughter (and wife) would enjoy a day at Disneyland too.

Jay Harbaugh is the big loss nobody has been talking about. Everything is focused on Harb, Minter, and Moore but Im pretty sure Jay is the guy who found Corum, Loveland, and some other major contributors.

Who the hell is Aaron Wilson, and how did he get so close to Harbaugh that he's able to access information nobody else can? I'm sure this has been happening since the first "insider" wrote on a stone tablet. However, it seems like the media has decided to say "hold my beer" when it comes to throwing potentially true information at the wall and seeing if it sticks.

This "report" is obviously bullshit, but I will say this.  If JH leaves, we are probably fucked six ways from Sunday.  I fully expect many, if not all, of the coaches to leave, and a mass exodus to the portal.  And we can kiss that great culture goodbye.

I do not understand the optimism on this board.

If he can't keep Minter, i'm fairly indifferent. Head coaching changes are almost always messy. Alabama was a machine and look at the turnover they are having. Michigan just needs to get the hire correct. Worrying about messing up the current culture is fools gold. Long term culture is the key. If they think Moore is the guy to keep the train rolling, then so be it, but lets not act like there isn't a risk giving the keys to a first time head coach just because the current players like him a lot. I'd say its prob more of a risk than doing a full search and bringing in a new guy.
