Reminder: Not everyone will get drafted/be a star and that's OK

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Just your friendly MGoBoard reminder that this weekend many of our Wolverines will not hear their names called in the NFL draft. And that's OK. There are 120ish D1 programs or approximately 13,800 "jobs" for  people to play college football. In the NFL there are 1590 jobs (on the "active roster, which doesn't mean you'll get to suit up on Sundays).

Many of our favorite Wolverines are done with Football. Some might become NFL stars, long-time special-teamers, have a cup of coffee, make practice squads, play arena league, or somewhere in between. And that's all awesome. How many people do you know that took a year or two off after graduation? Some travelled the world, some just bummed around, some saved up money for grad school, etc. Making a practice squad is nothing to sneeze at. None of these kids are failures, even if they don't get drafted.

Here's hoping that all of our Wolverines have great football experiences going forward. Go Blue.

Bum around the world two years? No huge responsibilities? Where do I sign up! Seriously, the cameraderie, esprit d corps, brotherhood and bonds built, are all incredibly valuable, and I'm glad they had the experience of being part of Michigan football, regardless of what the future brings.

I'm just sayin' that of those 1590 jobs it would be cool if 85 of them every 4 years coming out of Michigan would be pretty sweet.

Even if that only happens in my XBox360 Dynasty.

AHH. Formating! Y U NO?!

It'll be much better for Michigan Football as a program when all we are talking about this week is "how high in the 1st round do you think X, Y, and Z are going to go?"  The fact that we're talking about our best player MAYBE going in the third round is a problem, and a sign of why we haven't been all that good for a number of years.

At the end of next season, we'll finally see the end carnage of how few NFL prospects RR recruited and produced. We'll have Martin, Molk, Lewan, Gardner (tbd), Denard (different position), and potentially schofield. This will be 6 over the course of the last 5 seasons, with only one if them likely to be a starter. That output is putrid for Michigan, and you know every coach pounds that stat in recruiting when going up against us. This just shows even more how awesome the new staff is at recruiting. So is this a function of crap RR recruiting, crap coaching by RR, crap coaching by hoke, or something else I'm missing? And don't cite the spread. Meyer had no problem at Florida getting guys in the league.
