Record for Michigan All Blue Uniform

Submitted by LLG on January 17th, 2024 at 5:14 PM

I have the sense that the all-blue uniform (blue pants, blue jersey) is going to really grow on me due to watching replays of certain games (e.g., the National Championship, Ohio State, etc.).

I'm trying to figure out what games we have worn it in.  I'd also be curious as to what people think are the top fives games with all-blue uniforms.

I searched with google to see if this was posted here before, but can't find anything.  I did find this article from Maize N Brew from the beginning of the season:  "Michigan is 11-1 all-time and a perfect 7-0 at home when rocking both blue jerseys and blue pants. Most recently, the Wolverines wore their all-blue uniforms when they defeated Purdue, 43-22, in the Big Ten Championship Game last season."

https://www.maizenbrew.com/2023/9/15/23875561/university-of-michigan-football-announces-uniform-combo-for-night-game-against-bowling-green

And this article from right before the National Championship Game:

 https://www.maizenbrew.com/2024/1/7/24028831/michigan-wolverines-football-national-championship-washington-huskies-playoff-uniform-combination

So, am I correct that we are now 16-1 in the all blues with the only loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl?  And the first time we wore it was against Washington in 2021?

Anyone want to rank those 17 games?

Except insofar as without the win over osu in '23 Michigan doesn't get the chance to play in the cfp!

So beating osu has been the necessary step towards achieving any further goals. So I'm fine with the order osu '21, osu '23, NC game. Or with flipping the latter 2. But osu '21 is the game without which none of what Michigan has accomplished the past 3 years is possible!

I believe M & osu facing each other more than once per season will become a fairly common occurrence. So we'll see if the traditional season ender will keep it's all-important place in the new cfp format?!

Off top of my head  I believe we wore all blue back in the Norfleet/Hoke days at home versus Penn State. I remember Dennis's dance while awaiting a punt return.

Side note, for me, the all blue with maize accessories really pops and looks outstanding , and our traditional home with blue accessories (rather than white socks) are my favorite combos.

Whoa, this is a challenging scenario.  I love tradition and results.

So, the “traditional” maize lowers / blue upper always pleases my eye.  The team may “love” the all blues even more.   Who knows - but, you can’t argue with the results.

Maybe a player or two can interview members of the team and get the players’ perspective.   This is similar to - if you had to choose between “Pump it Up” and Mr. Brightside - which would you pick?

‘07 - I saw and posted about a short (maybe five minute long) video where the question of Pump It Up vs Mr Brightside was posed to different members of the team.

It was a fun watch.  The uniform question might yield similarly interesting responses.

I’m just glad we’re not a “uniform of the week” team.

I love tradition, but I also love to see new traditions started that have meaning and substance to them. To me, the all blues are a new tradition that coincided with the current three year run of excellence. I’m all for it continuing and running alongside the long time tradition of maize pants and blue jerseys.

The all-blues are indeed the official uni of the Michigan resurrection, just like Mr. Brightside is its official anthem.

I can't see the all-blue unis and not start humming Mr. Brightside in my head.          I can't hear Mr. Brightside and not start visualizing Michigan in all-blue unis.

I've really been liking the all-Blue uniforms, and it definitely helps that it's a huge part of thr look of some of the biggest, most cathartic wins over the last few seasons. It's a really simple change, and I don't feel like it fundamentally changes the design of the uniform, since the helmet is left alone, and it doesn't add any sort of extra design details (looking at you, weird Adidas shoulder stripes). You can look at a black and white photo of the all-Blues and still know right away that it's Michigan football.

On top of that, I think the Uniform decisions they made for the end of this season were spot-on. The throwback Rose Bowl jerseys with the big M shoulder patches and rose details, with the Maize pants were just perfect, and u wouldn't have wanted us in anything else for the Rose Bowl. Then, since the CFP championship game is a relatively new tradition, I thought it was a great idea to go with the all-Blues for that. It felt like we went with a classic classic look for the Rose Bowl, and then a look that's becoming a modern classic for the finals.

I think we’re 17-1 in blue pants.

12-1 all time in the all blue, 5-0 in white top/blue pants.

There is some conflicting information out there, and I don’t have time to follow up, so take it for what it’s worth.

Apologies for the formatting below.

All of Michigan’s uniforms are awesome.  At this point I will allow white pants with blue jersey at home if they want to give it a spin.

At this point, uniform choice can become less of a focus.  They are all awesome and Michigan wins all the time in all of them.

Great website page, thanks for posting this.

Scrolling down to the 2021 @Penn State game, I found this interesting tidbit:

"November 13, 2021 | State College, PA | vs. Penn State

GENERAL NOTE: Michigan’s request to wear an all-maize uniform (jersey and pants) is denied by Penn State officials. The team again wears maize pants (with traditional road white jerseys) for the second time in 2021 (the first at the October 30, 2021 game at Michigan State). In presumed defiance of the denial, the team also wears maize socks and arm sleeves."

While I am not a fan of the all-maize uniform, I do like the look of this white-over-maize with maize accessories combination.  And if it's true we did the maize accessories in defiance of the Nits, even better.

But I didn't know that the home team has veto power over the uniform choice of the visiting team. So to this I say:  F*** Penn State!

Going to try and do this from memory and not go back and research it:

1. 2021 OSU

2. 2023 National Championship

3. 2023 OSU

4. 2022 Penn St

5. 2021 Washington

6. 2022 B1G Championship

7. 2022 MSU

8. 2023 Indiana

9. 2023 Purdue

10. 2022 Nebraska

11. 2023 Bowling Green

12. 2014 Penn St

13. 2021 Georgia

That is the best I can do from memory.

The all Blues rock!!  Probably my favorite combo!

BTW, that Georgia playoff game was a mulligan - didn't nobody know what we were getting into!  So we're still undefeated in them!!
