Recent Twitter follows by UM recruits

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
Some interesting Twitter follows by some of our targets. Recent follows seem to be heavy UM for Singleton, Filiaga and Hicks. On the flip side, O'Maury Samuels has begun following some MSU coaches and staff. Not really a fan of that. Maybe it's just me, but I really liked Samuels film and hoping he will still be part of the class.

I'm not sure if that's the case. AFAIK, Samuels took an official visit to Arizona. If that's indeed the case, then he should also be able to official to Michigan. You need to achieve certain academic benchmarks in order to take official visits, but that baseline benchmark qualifies you to take an official visit anywhere.

So if Michigan told him he needs a higher test score to visit Ann Arbor, then it's because MICHIGAN wants him to have a higher test score, not the NCAA. That would seem to mean that maybe Michigan is looking for reasons to hold him off, at least temporarily while they figure out whether they can reel in Harris or not.

I don't think you need a certain score to take officials.  I think as long as you have taken the test, you can take officials regardless of your score. Or at least, that is how i heard it explained when Darnay Holmes wasn't taking officials earlier in the year.  The score only comes in to play if Michigan is worried he won't qualify.

I like Samuels, but if he doesn't get to UM I'd like to see him play for Rich Rod.  That offense needs someone like Samuels to score points, so it would be fun to watch from the East Coast.  No real threat, either, because RR's teams do not play defense.  So Arizona would score 40/game, while also giving up 40.  .500 ball for Rich Rod ensures him a job in Arizona, and us some decent offensive highlights of western teams.

Win - win!!

But I'd still rather have Samuels in a Winged Helmet, next to Harris and Walker in a triple option formation.

I'm most concerned about the Samuels trend. Like his athletisicm and there is always a place for an athlete like that. Especially if we don't get Harris, which I don't think we will in the end, I was really happy to at least pull in Samuel for that position.

Honest question:  What do you find "creepy" about it?

For the record, I don't follow recruits, but I am an active Twitter-er and this is standard Twitter practice for anyone.  I don't understand what bothers you (and many others).  It's a social media site.  It's public information.  Here, let's walk through it.

Search Drew Singleton (found him).  Click on his profile.  Click "Following".

There it is.  In reverse chronological order, a list of accounts Drew Singleton is following.

Among a few I don't recognize, I see:   Willie Gay, JaRaymond Hall, Phil Paea, James Hudson, Corey Malone-Harris, Irving-Bey, Luiji Villain, J'Marick Woods.

That's it.  I didn't offer him candy.  I didn't contact him in any way.  I didn't send him pictures of me in my underwear.  I clicked 3 buttons and discovered 9 of his last 13 follows were Michigan targets and commits.

If you care where these guys go to school in the first place (which you obviously do because you're neck deep in a recruiting thread on MGoBlog in mid-December), what is weird to you about using Twitter?

Yeah, that was my point earlier up the thread.  We are actually OK as far as RB is concerned for 2017.  Harris plus Samuel would be awesome, but if we somehow whiff on both, it isn't the end of the world.

What I'd be FAR more concerned about is if we did this at the DT/NT position.  Like if we whiffed on Solomon & Tufele, and in the meantime Paea or Hudson also decommitted.

So as far as dong punches go, losing Samuels while swinging for the fences but missing on Harris wouldn't be the worst case scenario.

Of couse, I'd much rather have BOTH, but isn't setting off major alarm bells for me.

I expressed essentially this view in another way above - but if M pursuing Harris sours Samuel on M, that's not my type of player, nor I'd guess Harbaugh's. Especially since Samuel apparently has not qualified to be accepted to Michigan.

Make sense?

So if we don't get Harris - which we'll know in a couple weeks when he registers for classes - and check back in to Samuel to find he know qualifies, and he says "Naw", then F him. He's not got the right stuff to compete at this level. If he can't compete for a spot and PT, how's he gonna compete enough to beat Urbz?

That's funny! I have never cared! After the success of our team. The way our coach cultivated the young men we have already whomever, he brings in, will be sufficient enough for me! He has done a outstanding job with previous recruits and will continue to do so! GO BLUE and GO Team! We must continue to be positive and our championship will be here soon!

regarding HB this year. If Walker is even above-average we could *technically* afford to go light there if Harris doesn't come and the others look around. I think Taylor is the only sure bet at RB. I'd love to see us load up on OL/DL so throw those potential extra numbers there unless an elite skill athlete shows interest. It'd be nice to kinda sorta try to match the 5* parade down in Cbus.

Bama insiders seem to think that Harris is sticking with them.  Wilson though they still favor UM although UGA has made a late push and Wilson has stated a desire to play in the SEC, Bama insiders saying their pick is Michigan for Wilson still though.

Final thought on O'Maury - based on his Sparq to offer ratio, he may well be what Dickie V once called "All Airport".

I don't know anything about his projected skill level -- I look at these highlight reels and I want all the players, squad of about 195 or so. Hell, I'm still sure McGuffie is gonna be a stud when he gets here!!!

But make a list of the schools that haven't offered him - food for thought...

Really still hope Samuels ends up in the class. Haven't watched too much of his film, but I just remembered that he was fast. Really fast.

We've got some thunder in the RB depth, but outside of Chris Evans, we don't have a whole lot of lightning.

Definitely don't want to lose Samuels, regardless of if we sign Harris.

I don't think Kurt Taylor is good enough for Michigan just based on his film and seeing him on TV once.

AJ Dillon is a wild card - could play O or D.

I also think Kwity Paye could be a good college FB in our system.

Would love Harris but don't feel like RB is a huge priority this year unless they are home run hitters.

Worse case scenario Harris n Samuels don't GoBlue then we still have a chance w Benjamin....he was a national player of the year finalist along w dpj....absolute baller outta Texas very underated...hopefully he comes on board...damn tho if we land Harris that would be amazing he seems like AP 2.0 GoBlue! Happy Cruitin everyone to a great week for us!
