I am going to tell myself that this is because the coaches feel good about Weber and started slow-playing Booker, even if it is just because this makes me feel happier going into the weekend.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
That's too bad. I was excited about him.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:33 AM ^
Harbaugh has had almost no time to recruit and has already flipped a few people and has more thinking seriously about a school they wouldn't give the time of day last November. This all bodes extremely well for the future. There are enough players on the team to win ten games in 2015. By then, Harbaugh will have been on some of the 2016 guys for close to a year. That's when the first big class comes in.
Bottom line: Harbaugh has made opposing coaches afraid of Michigan again and they haven't even had a practice.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
Not sure the point of your reply. I agree that what Harbaugh has done has been impressive already, and will be more impressive on NSD. 2016 and the future look very bright.
I really liked Booker. Too bad. That's it. There's nothing negative about it. It is what it is. Move on.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
now that's some serious kool aid, given our QB situation. i think anything above 7 is a bonus next year with 10 being realistic in 2016, again if we get some good QB play.
January 30th, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
Where do you get this shit? Same place you got the "David Brandon called plays for Hoke" crap?
January 31st, 2015 at 3:32 AM ^
But we're not required to turn up into down to remain there. Sometimes a recruiting loss is a recruiting loss.
January 31st, 2015 at 1:41 PM ^
Recruiting wise I don't see how he's any more fearful than Hoke was. It's extremely hard to our recruit what Hoke did. OSU/Bama maybe are the two who did better.

sometimes I really hate the recruiting "game"

Good thing its Friday.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:48 AM ^
Not many next ones left.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:48 AM ^
Maybe they feel good about another RB?
January 30th, 2015 at 10:50 AM ^
Nobody should draw any negative conclusions about what this staff may be capable of until a year from now.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
Agreed, a few weeks of recruiting is unlikely to flip a bunch of guys.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
No shit Don. It absolutely amazes me that people do not seem to understand that many of these recruits he's trying to flip have had relationships with the coaches & schools they are committed to for seveal years. He's trying (and actually sometimes succeeding) to do in 30 days what other guys have had 2-3 years to get done.
Harbaugh recruiting this year is basically a guy starting a marathon when every other runner is at the 19 mile mark. And while he's managed to catch a LOT of the runners he's not able to overtake the leaders (yet) and people wonder what's wrong.
Next year when he starts the recruiting race at the same time everybody else does this will be a whole different story. You can bank on it.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:11 AM ^
Who is saying that this crammed recruiting cycle is a reflection on Harbaugh's true recruiting abilities? Other than you, of course. It feels more like you're trying to convince yourself there isn't a problem, I don't see anyone else fretting over the long term prognosis.

Plus uninformed people who do not realize this site does more actual journalism than Freep, DetNews and the other MSM outlets. They're out there. I live around them, work around them, go to church with them and break bread with them.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:43 AM ^
I'm not going to worry at all about this NSD. We'll get some guys, but no one we get or don't get is going to make or break this team's potential next year. We have more than enough talent in-house right now to win 9 or even 10 games possibly. 2016 will be the first great class under JH and it will be worth waiting for.
January 30th, 2015 at 4:07 PM ^
If he flips 5 of these guys (beyond the three he already has), I will be slack-jawed in amazement.
I'll be content with 4.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:08 AM ^
I think he's committed to filling this class with quality players, not just bodies. If he doesn't get the guys who he thinks can play, then he will save the scholarships for next year, like Lorenz said in the podcast.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
Read the article - he sounds like a quality kid and Wisconsin has been very involved with him for a long time now helping to better him on a personal front. So he made a mature decision and cannot fault him for not wasting anyone's time.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:53 AM ^
We will get Clark, he was already committed. If we can pull a couple other 4 stars away we can slavage this class and that will be a huge achievement considering this staff has only been together for a few weeks.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
You could say that Michigan cancelled his visit because they feel excellent about another RB commit.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:31 AM ^
I have also heard that we want more speed on offense too so there's that piece.
Booker sounds like a great kid and would have been nice to have but kudos to him for following his heart.

Question for Mgobloggers....who pays for the offical visits? Can a school make any contribution or does the financial burden fall fully on the recruits (SEC recruiting excluded, of course)?
January 30th, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
Pays for everything. I'm not sure if each school has a budget to work with, but the school pays for flights, hotels, meals, etc all during the trip. Unofficial visits the player has to pay for everything.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:05 AM ^
Officials by school - unofficials by player (or in SEC by school, just not directly) :D
January 30th, 2015 at 11:23 AM ^
Well hell,
Not a huge surprise, but disappointing nonetheless.
Looking forward to seeing what happens next year. Still glad the coaches are setting their sights fairly high for this first cycle.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:32 AM ^
Why do they announce that they are visiting and cancel at the last minute. I just don't get it why it's happened so much this past few days. Is it that they are being threatened by the coaches that they are commited to? If not why waste other people's time? Anyways, I am not disappointed with recruitng at all. We will have a top class in 2016. Go Blue!
January 30th, 2015 at 2:14 PM ^
Basically, yes.
Harbaugh & staff are shaking things up and making major runs at these players. The players I think are genuinely interested, and then it forces their other school's coaching staff to fight off the threat from Michigan through a variety of tactics. Sometimes it works (when the kids cancel their visits, etc.); sometimes it doesn't.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:32 PM ^
Well, I would say in some cases the parents and even high school coaches are also advising these kids to think twice about backing out of a commitment they've already made.
January 30th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
Obviously means Weber is on the way.
January 30th, 2015 at 12:08 PM ^
Just so confused.

I think Wisky said if someone else walks through this door while you are "looking around" well your spot might not be there when you come back. I feel this is what Brady was trying to avoid....
You look around and you are no longer commited was the word around UM while Brady was head guy. I like Brady and his rule better, its up front no suprises you know if you look your lost that simple. This is all just an assumtion so please have mercy on my thoughts. The other way is behind the back and that could be what alot of teams are doing when a commit wants to "look around". Its very possibly what Wisky said to him behind scenes that he would be cut off. Not a fact I am not claiming this as fact but its another possibility.
January 30th, 2015 at 10:05 PM ^
I am not surprised that some of the recruits are going with the schools where they already have a relationship with a coach (like this kid with WISC).
I totallybelieve tht sme of these young men do not know what they want.........
I hope our team can show some real progress this fall. Maybe ur 2016 recruiting class will be better. I will remain positive.
GO BLUE

running backs have had a lot of success at Wisconsin last couple years can't blame the kid!!!
