Rank which Michigan/Detroit team you'd want to win a championship first

Submitted by bsgriffin1 on

Just curious as to how you fellow mgoblogians would rank which team you would want to win a championship first, second, third, and fourth regarding the Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and Michigan Football. But sadly the catch is only one championship within 10 years of eachother.

1st (within Ten years),

2nd (within 10- 20 years),

3rd (within 30-40 years)

4th (within 40-50 years)

5th (withing 50-60 years)

Mine would be:

1) Michigan

2) Lions

3) Red Wings

4) Tigers

5) Pistons

edit:  how in the hell did i forget to add in the  The Red Wings

update 2:  To be honest im not a Detroit sports 'fan' either besides growing up UofM and Red Wings fan since I've lived coast to coast all my life but since going to school here I kind of wanted to see what most of Detroit/Michigan fans would choose since I know the struggles been real, especially with Lions never winning a championship (but this seasons looking good), the Tiger's being a good bet to win recently, the pistons sucking now, and Michigan well.. :( .

Feel free to insert whichever sports team you wanted.

Not sure why that catch is obligatory. But.... Lions, Tigers, Michigan football, Michigan basketball, Red Wings, Michigan hockey, Pistons. Because Michigan can win the B1G and a bunch of Rose Bowls and be a constant top 10 program and I'll be happy, especially if the Lions actually MAKE a superbowl, let alone win it.

LOL, seriously It amazes me that so many people say it wrongly. It's the same thing as "I could care less" when someone is trying to make it sound like they don't care. "I could care less" means exactly what it says; it means to do care to some degree. "I couldn't care less" means whatever the subject is, it's on the bottom of the list of cares.

Ignoring your team choices I pick: Michigan football, Michigan basketball, tigers, lions, wings/pistons.  Pistons and wings last because they did it more recently.  Lions second to last because I'm used to them losing.  Michigan sports first because that's where my passion is.

As someone who was 2 in 1997, it'd be nirvana if Michigan won the National Championship in football. As far as Detroit sports, I think it would be a huge economy boost if the Lions won, and the Tigers are just due for one.

Another aspect, it would be doom if MSU won a NC.....

To be fair, even in the past, something like this would have possibly stood - especially on a bye week - merely because of the mix of pro and college items that the OP allowed here. There is
allowable OT" in the "non OT" season - the difference is the focus and scope of "OT" between the season and the offseason.

1)  Michigan
2)  Michigan
3)  Michigan
4)  Michigan
5)  Michigan

Way too much Detroit stuff on this board.  Unlike MSU, Michigan is a national (and international) institution and many of us do not care one whit about Detroit teams.

A more interesting question would be -- Michigan football national championship or Michigan basketball national championship?  I say hoops, cuz' Beilein.

And it is still the University OF Michigan. It both benefits and offers benefits to the state. It, in fact, is an important part of the state's economy. UM is part of the fabric of the state. It is not part of the fabric of Minnesota, New York, California, or any of the other places people come from.

Michigan is not a private institution. It is a public institution that was explicitly created to benefit the people of Michigan.

Michigan is the flagship public university of the state of MI.  Detroit is the hub where the state's pro sports teams are located (ok not the Pistons), and is the closest major city to Ann Arbor.

So what?  It just seems provincial to have a U of M sports blog cluttered up with Detroit stuff.  Most of the people I went to school with at Michigan pretended Detroit didn't exist.

MLive or some Detroit sports blog would be a better place to discuss Tigers, Lions, Pistons, Wings.

There are a lot of intelligent, diverse people here.  All have their own opinions about what is appropriate and what isn't.

One of the more hilarious things I see the self-appointed "taste police" here do is make an impassioned plea for the entire community to stop talking about something just as conversation was waning organically.  Then, of course, their thread actually extends the very discussion that it was begging people to end.

Bottom line: people here don't need other users tellilng them what to do.  The mods are quite proficient at ensuring high quality and appropriate posting, especially compared to other sports blogs.  For anyone who doesn't believe me, look at 5-10 sports blogs featuring other schools and then try to make a reasonable argument why any of them are better than MGoBlog.

Trust the mods...

but it appears you do not know what tyrannical means.  I am merely expressing my opinion, same as you.  I wish no ill will toward any of the Detroit teams, and the Lions would be a great story if they went to the SB.  I'm just not a fan, and I know many others on here are not either.  Everyone except the trolls, however, is a fan of Michigan, so let's stick with that.

Pro sports are allowable OT, it's just assumed Detroit-centric stories are more relevant/worthwhile for taking up space on the sideboard than another city without a good reason. The big pro sports stories are posted regardless of whether they're about the Lions/Tigers/Pistons/Wings. Also a little food for thought, there's a vocal minority of Canadians that post on the site, so anything Team USA might feel a little like a non-Detroit fan seeing Detroit stories, but Olympic and national team stories get posted when there's news.
