Rampant Edge of Internet Rumor Mongering Re: Harbaugh

Submitted by alum96 on

Both Henson and Moss (YTM) have for some reason become much more positive about Harbaugh in the last 15 minutes.  Henson was already very positive but just went "way more positive" and Moss (who Brian did not shoot down as a source a few weeks ago) said "I was never convinced that Jim Harbaugh was coming here until about 15 minutes ago."

The "crowned one" says 8 years, 49 mil (6.125 a year) is the deal.  That would make sense - puts him in the "top 5" of NCAA coaches (#2 behind Saban) as Brian reported he wishes.  And a $1M+ bump vs NFL salary.

Some connection to the Moeller stuff but seems like something happened in addition in the last 15 minutes.  The Moeller stuff has been going on for 48 hrs - it would be strange for that to be a "new" surprise to 2 guys focused so intently on this hire within a 15 minute time span.

Again, "edge of internet" so eat your salt.

It's happening?

EDIT 11:20 PM EST - more Henson rumor mongering is Harbaugh looking at DJ Durkin as DC.  He is current interim coach of UF and served 2 years under Muschamp as DC.  Connection to Harbaugh = special teams coach for Stanford in 07-09.  36 years old (!).

Durkin is a Youngstown (!) OH boy, who has tons of Midwest ties via Bowling Green, Notre Dame in 2001-2006 as a GA and position coach.  Been at Florida since 2010.

I'm not falling for this stuff until he actually is officially announced by Jim Hackett. I'm 99% sure we're going to get screwed in this coaching search and end up with Schiano.

As far as edge of Internet rumors go, I like this one so I will choose to baughlieve it. Mr. Hackett, secure your legacy. Be the guy who gets the guy. Make. This. Happen.

The newsreel is rolling, words are at an all time cheap The more they are talking, the less it means to me A terrifying feeling creeping in without a sound I know it'll pin me if I stop to turn around Casting off again, not knowing where to land Drifting in a brand new kind of blue Hoping that I'm only passing through The ache of a decade, the cure is overdue For this brand new kind of blue Floating through the ceiling, high up over the trees Saw a panoramic view of my whole history The city was all buzzing on every wire and track Through it all I heard a voice calling me to come back All those birthday cards buried out in the yard Casting off again, not knowing where to land Drifting in a brand new kind of blue Hoping that I'm only passing through The ache of a decade, the cure is overdue For this brand new kind of blue Drifting in a brand new kind of blue Drifting in a brand new kind of blue

I sure the 49ers are frantically negotiating with Jim to see what team they can trade him to for draft picks. But Jim may have made a decission that college coaching is just more fun. He can always go back to the NFL after he wins us a national championship and he grooms his successor. I think Jim will get Michigan in the playoffs during his second season and by year 5 he would have won us at least one national championship. I've been a lean for sometime that Jim would have more fun being the coach of Michigan then an NFL team.

The reason Miles says he ruled out Michigan is he knows that Harbaugh is going to take the job. Also, if talks with the 49ers have broken down then my guess they will fire Jim this week and he will fly to Ann Arbor for the announcement! My guess this will occur on Friday!

Ladies and Gentlemen... This is not a drill...

Repeat...  this is not a drill. All commands, we are now at DEFCON 2.

The Brids are warmed up and ready to go. Now we wait. Should things fall apart now, and we go to DEFCON 1... God help us all.

Those are very specific figures and names. That's the only thing making me not ignore this "report". It's one thing to take a blind shot at "breaking" that UM-Harbaugh is a done deal. Maybe you get lucky and you are right. But the odds that you can pull the exact contract term and coaches' names aren't very high. If these guys plan to have a career in journalism, then I have a hard time believing they'd release specifics without having some substance behind it.

I am not saying I am inclined to believe these rumors, even though I want to. But the one aspect that sounds off to me is this: how is it going to be a 9 AM EDT press conference? Harbaugh would have to practically fly all night following practice and staff meetings to make that.
